The FINAL UPDATE! :)

Hello everyone!

This is the final mass update for Womanthology. There are so few left who are in need of their book still, that I feel it best that I update you individually from now on through email. :)

Charity...

Womanthology has been an incredible experience. When I launched it last year, half expecting failure, I had no idea the huge amount of happiness, difficulty, stress, and joy I would experience, or the sheer amount of positivity it would create. Being my first Kickstarter (one that was overly successful) I was caught unprepared by the huge amount of work required to take care of it all. That as well as my months of illness, created a few months of delays, which I wish more than anything could have been avoided. Despite that, I hope most of you are pleased with the final product, and are overall satisfied with the level of dedication I've tried  to give to this project and all it's backers. I care very much about each of you, and the mere fact that you put your hard earned money and trust onto this project creates an appreciation I will carry with me past the delivery of your book.

Because of the success of Womanthology, we were able to print a LOT more extra books for regular distribution sale than we first hoped (5,000 instead of a few hundred!!!). Those books are all profits for Charity through GlobalGiving.org. To date Womanthology has earned $34,000 for Charity!! So far we have given $10,000 of that to educate 1,000 girls in Pakistan after the terrible shooting of young Malala Yousafzai who was attacked for being an advocate for female education in her country. It was an amazing moment for many of us on the project to see our hard work going forward to help even more people.

But it's not done yet! There is still $24,000 of Charity funds left to decide on where to disperse. I invite all Kickstarter backers to please go to THIS SITE, pick a charity from Global giving, and nominate it as a recipient for these funds. Depending on the needs of these Charities, we may be able to give to more than a couple! Womanthology Contributors will then vote on final Charities to give to.

This is the final and wonderful step of Womanthology :) And thanks to you all for letting this happen.

Moving Onward...

When Womanthology began to become a huge project, I put aside my own projects and goals because I saw an opportunity to do good for other people. I've happily volunteered over a year of my life for this project, but now my responsibilities left for Womanthology are so few that I feel confident I am able to move forward with my life once again. I have just started my own Kickstarter for a graphic novel adaptation of Peter Pan. This is a project that I was working on prior to Womanthology, and it's very near and dear to my heart. This is what my family needs to move forward, and it would be a dream come true for me to be able to create this book.

For those few still waiting on Womanthology books, I did not launch Peter Pan lightly. I take my remaining responsibilities very seriously, and I made certain that moving forward with my goals will in no way, shape or form stop or slow me down from delivering the few books left that's owed. I said very early on I will not stop until everything is completely finalized, and I stand true to that. I will be here, taking care of Womanthology first until all is completely done.

Final reward updates...

These are the 2 major areas awaiting books: There are a couple people for other rewards as well, of which we'll be talking with you individually to easier take care of you.

REGULAR COPIES - There were 1400 books ordered as rewards, and 20 of you are still waiting on a book. If you are one of those people, please know how incredibly sorry I am that you are still waiting and my husband Ray and I have been working nonstop to try and figure out what the issue is. Most of you are international, and copies have been re-sent a few times in some cases, only to have them disappear or be returned. All that's left is to individually try and figure out what the issue is for your copy. IDW just sent another batch of international copies, so right now we're just waiting to see if they arrive, as some take over 30 days to get through customs. Please know that I care greatly about you and your delay and I will not stop until the problem is solved and you have your book! :)

SIGNED/SKETCH COPIES - I feel most terrible about these rewards because they were severely delayed by my hospitalization and months of recovery starting in June. I feel awful that i did anything that caused anyone hardship and delay. I am so sorry. :(

My personal sketch copies are now 100% complete, and I'm mailing the final 5 international copies this week. Other artists are a work in progress, and we'll keep updating you as we check in with them. Camille's will take the longest, as she has 20 to do and lives in Canada. As an option to expedite a copy to you, I'd be happy to draw you a sketch version myself instead. Please just message me and let me know if you'd like to do that!

Signed copies; I'm merely waiting to get all signatures returned to me at this point. I promise that as soon as I get them I'll mail them straight to you! I will of course notify when I do so as well!

My thanks...

I wish I could list the entirety of happy stories that has come from Womanthology, or somehow have all of you see through my eyes the sheer amount of happiness I saw on the faces of young girls at conventions when they started to realize that YES! They too can also obtain their dreams as an artist, and yes, they are worth it. I hope the women involved in the book, and all the backers are incredibly proud at what they've accomplished by making this book a reality. And I hope you realize that you've created something that has rippled outward and effected so many lives.

From the bottom of my heart, thank you... thank you, thank you. :) And I'll see you all next time!

I am back! PLEASE read if you have not gotten your book!

Renae is going to be okay, but she's in the hospital :(

Hi, everyone-

This is Ray, Renae's husband. Please read my blog post about the situation here:

http://raydillon.blogspot.com/2012/06/my-wife-renae-de-liz-is-going-to-be.html

Please give us time to get back to you about rewards. Everything SHOULD be good to go, though. All copies have been sent and may have customs delays, but should be there soon. Rewards are in various stages but everyone involved (such as artists and writers putting your cameo appearance in their book, or illustrating in your copy of Womanthology) are working towards getting those out to you. And if you take a look at Renae's last update post you'll see more specifics on that.

Thanks once again for all your support! Means the world to us.

Have a wonderful day!

~Ray

*EDIT:

Hey, everyone! Ray here again (Renae's husband). If you have a regular copy, (Not sketch or signed circuit editions) please fill out this form, so we can can find out what went wrong and/or get you a new copy mailed asap!

https://docs.google.com/spreadsheet/viewform?formkey=dFlBVU5sWTdhbFA4U3N5eldpQ2NZV0E6MQ

And please keep in mind that Circuit Editions and Sketch copies are in the process of being fulfilled, but they take time to mail out to all the creators, then back to us, then to you. Please be patient and you WILL receive your copy.

Thank you!

~RAY

May Update: PLEASE READ if you're still waiting!

Hello Everyone! :) Here's hoping this is the next to last update!! We're getting darn close to 100% fulfillment! PHEW!

If you have a question not answered in this update, or you think there may have been an error on your shipment, please MESSAGE HERE ON KICKSTARTER . Please do not message on my Twitter, Facebook, at Conventions, Email or any other site. It is difficult for me to keep up with too many different areas of messages, so concentrating them here on Kickstarter helps a lot!!

Going right to Rewards

BOOKS (not sketch/signed version) ALL US and INTL copies have been sent (unless you have just recently amended or given us your address). INTL copies are still trickling in all over the place delivery-wise, so there can still be waiting especially if your country's customs decide to hold it for any reason. So please realize if you're still waiting, it could be because of customs, something we don't have control of, or any way of knowing if they are holding it! From what we hear, it varies in times they hold it, so I cannot give a helpful estimate to anyone on that :( But if you can post when they arrive, and where you live, it certainly helps me keep track of where and when they arrive so I can inform others who are still waiting!

Please know, for the few of you still waiting, I am not purposefully holding back your book or making you wait longer, these things are just bound to happen on a project this large.  I am not a company, I am one person that won't stop until everyone has their reward, even if it takes time. The spirit of Kickstarter is to make projects and dreams find fruition, something every single one of you made happen spectacularly and should be proud to have been a part of. So even though I am truly sorry some of you had to wait longer than the store release of the book (which by the way, was done so we could make money for Charity ASAP, I intended all Kickstarter copies to arrive first, but despite my best efforts it just couldn't happen that way :( )  I hope you find some comfort in that your book is A) a special version not in stores, with the bookplate, hand signature/numbering and B) you were part of making this entire thing even happen! You have no idea the amount of happiness, inspiration, and hope your help here has made possible. If none of those things matter to you, and you just want the product in your hands, then I can only give apologies and fix things as fast as I can. Just remember I am a person, who had done my best for over a year now for this project, and kindness and patience goes a long way in helping me get everything finished. Negativity effects me just as it would anyone else, So I would please request to be kind in your messages.

Sketch/Signed copies of book:

Sketch version: Copies have been sent to the artists and are being worked on. Be aware they are subject to the artist's schedule but are currently being worked on. Camilla lives in Canada, so the simple process of shipping back and forth is taking a lot longer (they have to go from me, in Maine, to Camilla, then back to me for final shipping).  I can update that MY sketch copies are just about finished, and I'll be shipping them out all at once, hopefully in the next week! :)

Signed Version: Waiting on final signatures, then I'll ship out immediately.

And finally, May 17th marked the 1 year anniversary of the very start of the Womanthology project!! 1 year ago the project had the ghastly pet-name of "Girl-a-pa-looza" and I had no idea if it would be published, if we'd ever get funding, or if it could even be done... and look at it now! CONGRATULATIONS to all the backers who made this happen, and all the amazing women on project who poured in their talent and care to make it the special book that it is. :)

Have a wonderful day everyone!! :)

April Update!

Hello everyone! :) How are you today? And Happy Spring to you all!

Straight to News & Updates! Scroll down for REWARDS if that is what you want to check on!

Womanthology: Space

Yep, it's true! There's to be further Womanthology! :) This one is themed Womanthology: Space. IDW late last year made it known they wanted to further extend the good of Womanthology and help support more women creatives in comics, so they have decided to pick up Womanthology for a series of 5 issues that will then be collected into a Graphic Novel!

The editors will be Mariah Huehner and Laura Morley , both of Womanthology: Heroic!

Here's what's the same:

  • Everything is still creator owned
  • All experience levels are welcome
  • Pairing professional with up and coming talent
  • Portion will still be for Charity (but not all of it this time due to the page rate given)
  • There will still be Creator Bios, How To's Interviews, Kid/Teen Contributores, etc! :)

Here's what's different:

  • A page rate is offered to the creators
  • Womanthology: Space is much smaller in size, it will be 5 single issues collected into a Graphic Novel.

If you are interested in participating, or have a young lady who you'd like to help sign up, you can go to the official sign up lists HERE (will have to sign up for the forum). If you are under 18, make sure to put that somewhere in the submission in bold! Also please be known that there is far less room in this series than in the Heroic book, so even if you're not in this first series, keep posting because there could be more coming!

That's pretty much it! :) It's very very exciting. Womanthology has ever meant to be a positive, fun project that supports, inspires and showcases all women creatives in comics and their unique voices. This series (and hopefully more afterwards!) will only continue the positivity further. So first of all thank YOU guys for making it happen. Without your support, Womanthology would not only not have made print, but wouldn't have been able to carry on to further adventures!

And of course thanks to IDW (whose 13th birthday is today, incidentally!) for taking up this project that means so much to a lot of people :)

Laura Morley moving into Space!

You may have been lucky enough to speak with Laura Morley  since the start of this project :) She has been here, answering questions, manning the Womanthology email, organizing many aspects since day 1. She's been working hard through the many trials of Womanthology to bring it to fruition and I could not have done this without her! So a big hand by all to Ms. Morley for all she's accomplished with Heroic! :)

As you saw above, she is moving on to help with the new Womanthology: Space! and I am happy to announce, she is also preparing for the arrival of her first child! :) So a huge congratulations as well to her and her family! Anyone who wants to offer congratulations can tell her on twitter HERE

We love your Laura!

REWARDS

This section is only abut the BOOK as that's our focus right now. We are doing a complete check up on all other rewards this week and will report on any left next week.

WOMANTHOLOGY: HEROIC COPIES

Most books have been delivered, but there have been delays on a certain portion of backers.

US backers (NON-PO Box addresses): It has been reported these should have all been delivered by now (UNLESS you are also one of the address types below) This is the majority of backers.

SKETCHED & SIGNED Copies: These are all still in process and are being taken care of as I type :) These are all subject to various people's schedules and require further time, but are certainly on the way!

US backers (PO BOX) The shipping company made it known to me let month that no PO Box addresses could be sent. There were about 30 of you. You should have gotten an email notifying you that the shipping company needed a physical address to ship to you. Almost all have been collected and your addresses have been given over to IDW last week, so it will be mailed out shortly!

International Backers: The shipping company discovered a difficulty in sending your copies as they now need your phone numbers to complete the customs forms to your various countries & ensure your copies safe mailing. So you should have gotten an email asking for your phone number. We have since collected all but a few and they have been sent off to IDW last week for shipping. Again I am so sorry for this delay :( Please know I'd change it if I could and I care very much about your wait!!

Address Changes: As per the last update, most of you have filled out the change form, or contacted me or the Womanthology email. Your addresses are all on the address list sent to IDW last week so they should all be mailed shortly!

Not part of the delayed portion of backers but still don't have a book? Message me here on Kickstarter! There could have been an error in your address, or it could have been plain lost in the mail. Again if you've been in contact with us over the last couple weeks and given your address, then it's part of the mailing list just given over to IDW, so no message is needed.

And please remember that I am NOT a big company delaying your books and not caring about your wait. This is not a perfect process and Womanthology is not a well oiled machine like Amazon that can deliver books at a push of a button (though we try hard to be!). Errors are to be expected on a project this large. Though despite the project's success or the amount made, it is still just me & Laura taking care of the many needs of Womanthology in whatever free time we have and for certain we care very much, and are working hard to take care of everything :)

I would ask if you have Kickstarter questions, to ask here and not my twitter, Facebook, or email. This is because it's easy to lose track of everyone's messages when they're scattered about so much, and I want to efficiently take care of everyone.

Womanthology Signings

There have been a lot of cool signings popping up all over the country at Comic Stores! If you have an interest of setting up a signing and want to invite contributors from your area, contact Rachel Pandich at radeph@gmail.com ! :)

FUN STUFF

Oh my is there so much good happening from  Womanthology! :) Here are a few things:

LIBRARY COPIES

Library Copies that were volunteered by you to be sent! (if you have photos to add, send them to me! :))

The Youth Department of Secaucus Public Library, NJ with their copy!

Womanthology as part of a comics display at Hernando Library in Mississippi

MALE SUPPORTERS

Some awesome male supporters with their copies! I point them out because it's been made known to me many don't realize just how many men are in complete support of this project and of more women in comics! So thanks to all you guys out there who helped make this happen :)

Steve Niles

 (GREAT beard! ;D )

YOUNG GIRLS AND WOMANTHOLOGY

This without a doubt to me, is where I see and feel the most positivity that has come from this project. I have heard countless stories at this point of people seeing young girls pouring over copies at comics shops and libraries, and have gotten many emails from grateful parents who have something to encourage their aspiring creative daughter with.

If you have pictures or stories to share, send them to me! :)

From Contributing writer Jody Houser's Tumblr

"Today at my local comic shop (House of Secrets in Burbank), I watched a six-year-old girl page through every single comic in Womanthology: Heroic.  I may have gotten a bit choked up. Isn’t this exactly who Womanthology was made for?"

And YES I'm reposting this one from the last update because it's soooooo sweet! :) A Kickstarter Backers children with their copy!

Here is a letter from Kickstarter Backer Brendan Burke's amazing daughter Valerie, in which I have permission to share :) This was in response to a sketchbook that was sent to her that had a sketch in it

And finally here is a link to some interviews of some of the Womanthology: Heroic contributors that are under 18 :)

They are by GeekMom.com and you can find them HERE
