Okay, hi again, everyone. Ray Dillon here again. I’m sorry that my absence has caused concern. I hope you can understand why after I explain as succinctly as I can. I kept meaning to update about all this as it was happening and just didn't with everything that was going on.
WHERE HAVE WE BEEN?
Since the last update a few months ago we struggled to find new housing with a concrete day we had to be out of the seasonal rental we were in for the summer vacationers coming in. We found a place and moved last minute. Renae had a preventative surgical procedure that is dangerous while pregnant. A few days later she gave birth to our baby, girl Claire. Baby had very bad jaundice levels for a month and was in and out of the hospital, constant blood draws and tests.
About a week after we finally made it home for good with baby, Renae had a near fatal pulmonary embolism (blood clot in lung) and infarction (dead portion of lung), hospital stays for over a month.
Baby is now fine and growing. Renae has been taking very strict blood thinner shots and pills. She is recovering and we're starting to get some semblance of normalcy again, with our now family of 6 (or 8 if you count cats) and finally get our new place unpacked. It can take up a year to fully recover and some people never do. The chances of getting another one, and of it being more potentially fatal, are very high once you've had one. It's bizarre she would get that at such a young age. It's totally unfair. When she was 18 she had a 7lb tumor explode, a few years ago she got that infection that nearly killed her. Now this? Just too much :( She's such a great person, wonderful mom and wife, and a unique, powerful creator. Back off, health problems! It's all been so terrifying. :( We need her to stick around. Can't even think of it. Sorry, that got heavy. Onward.
Everything is fine with your book and it will be on the way just as soon as we can get it ready. Signed, sketched, and shipped. You will absolutely get your book. I can’t stress that enough. And if you look around, the majority of backers have already received theirs. There's no "scam" here, of course. Obviously things like sketched, signed, numbered, international editions, are going to take longer, especially now with Renae recovering and holding an infant and taking care of a toddler too, and she needed to keep working as much as possible.. We're doing everything we can to get these done and out.
We do NOT want this Kickstarter to carry over into another year. Seriously. Sorry for not being able to fulfill this sooner for those of you who are left, but trust me, we live with the stress of it every single day. You're stressed about the 1 book you haven't gotten yet. We're stressed about thousands (now hundreds) sitting in our house taunting us like an Edgar Allen Poe story. But we're down to just a few hundred left, they just need to be worked on and shipped. If I could sketch them myself I would, but I'm sure everyone would rather wait for Renae. She's just got an infant full time right now and needs all her strength and doctors orders are for way less stress.
Hope you can understand. I know it's frustrating to wait, especially this long and with lapses of communication, but it will work out in the end.
There's literally NO scenario where you'll just never receive your book.
Thank you for your consideration and patience. Hope despite the wait you're having a nice day.
- RAY DILLON
P.S. PSYCHE! SUCKERS! THIS WAS ALL A SCAM that I've just been dragging out for 4 years to... because... uh... to cause myself ulcers and a heart attack so I can uhhh... die, and Renae can collect the life insurance, and I come back as a ghost and haunt all our backers!! DIABOLICAL!! MOOHAHAHAHA! Scamming 101, It's a slow-burn, not an epic explosion. Takes patience. I'm thinking about running a Kickstarter about scamming. Who's game?
Kidding of course. :P Happy Halloween, people! Go get a bag of candy and start snacking. If it helps, you can say "This is your FACE, Ray Dillon!" every time you take a bite. :D I'm very funny. Or sleep deprived.
Take care. I'll post again when there's some good news.
