Welcome to the ALPHA 31
Our daily carry should be built for performance, not just a laptop.
We quickly saw that if we wanted the build of a technical pack but optimized for our active commutes, we would have to make it ourselves.
So we introduced the ALPHA 31:
- Compress or expand for different loads.
- Access gear through the roll top, front panel and 15” side access laptop sleeve.
- Designed for comfort, breathability and weather resistance.
After over ten months of design, sourcing the best materials and manufacturing here in the USA, we're exited to make this bag a reality.
How We Stand Apart
We see a lot of laptop bags built for the workplace but are not very comfortable and don’t have any extra room. We also see a lot of recreational packs that are solely built for the outdoors. We wanted to create a technical tool that would work for everyday life and have the range to take on sweaty commutes, expand to hold extra clothes for a short trip or survive the surprise rain shower.
Flexible Size & Access
We chose a roll top format so the bag can expand up top to hold extra items when needed and still compress down to a small size. When compressed, the front zippered panel acts as the main access to the bag. When fully loaded, the front zipper allows for access to items lower in the bag.
In-house Design and Development
We do all design and development in-house. That means we personally take the product through every step of the process from design all the way to sample making and testing. By the time we start sampling with a factory, we already have full internal samples and months of testing completed.
Our Design Principles
Simplicity is Liberating. We're on a mission to make lasting solutions that are lean, functional and empower our users.
Experiment with New Materials. We're in a golden age of textile technology and we are always playing with new materials to see if they can deliver a better experience.
Discover Greater Functionality. Probably the key reason we got into this business is to rapidly try out new ideas and discover failures and improvements along the way. For every pack that goes to market, there's a pile of prototypes that guided our way.
Ruthlessly Test our Creations. You can only learn so much from drawing and sewing before you need to take gear into the word and find it's limits. We love taking a bag right off the sewing machine and into the hills to see what works and what can be improved.
About the Founder
Philip is a career designer and maker with over a decade of experience bringing products to life from design through to sourcing and production. REMOTE EQUIPMENT is based in Berkeley, California, and most days are spent researching materials, sewing up prototypes or testing our gear wherever we go.
Risks and challenges
This is our first Kickstarter campaign and while we’re new to this platform, we have a wealth of experience bringing product (especially bags) to life and delivering to customers.
We have carefully mapped out a plan with our material suppliers and production partner to assure we can produce all items with consistency and to our quality standards. While we have carefully planned out our production and delivery strategy, there is always a possibility of delay along the way.
Material supplier delays: We have established relationships with all our material suppliers and have already ordered with them for our pre-production samples. We have established lead times with each supplier but there is always a possibility of a material delay.
Manufacturing delays: We have partnered with a factory in Washington state, with a reputation for quality and attention to detail. While we have worked together to create a plan for production, there is always a possibility of delay.
Fulfillment (delivery) delays: This can be a complicated process, but we have planned out which shipping tools to use and identified a fulfilment partner in case the order is larger than anticipated. We will ship out all bags via USPS Priority Mail. We have mapped out all costs and included them when you select your reward. While we have mapped out every step, there is always a possibility of a delay during fulfillment or in the shipping process.
All REMOTE EQUIPMENT gear is guaranteed against manufacturing and material defects. We do not cover the effects of normal wear and tear.
While all of our products are guaranteed against defects, we do not offer refunds or returns on items received as Kickstarter rewards.
Import duties and taxes are not included in our reward levels. These charges vary by country and are completely out of our control.
