Hello & Welcome
Hello and welcome to our kickstarter campaign to get the REMO General Store back online in Bondi in early 2016. We really hope that we're going to get a bunch of you to accompany us on this next leg of the REMO journey ... and we would ask you to spread the word (and a link to this campaign page) as far and as widely as you can, via facebook, twitter, email, word of mouth, whatever ...
I’m the founder of REMO Remo Giuffré (that's me on the left) … and this is a project that I'll be personally overseeing in collaboration with my wife and partner Melanie. That's Pearl in the middle.
Uses of Funds
We need your support, so that we can purchase our opening stock of REMO branded merchandise (mostly T Shirts and stationery items to begin with) along with some basic just-in-time production equipment.
Some REMO Background
REMO was launched in Sydney in 1988 as a physical General Store ...
... and traded famously for 8 years from the corner of Oxford and Crown Streets in Darlinghurst, serving & delighting a global network of customers in 104 countries; celebrating quality and passion in people and merchandise gathered together from all over the world.
From Day One our focus was on high quality and functional merchandise that manifested and authentic story. That’s me soon after we opened in the front row holding the plunger, a symbol of our preference for the functional over the decorative. And here is the logo:
… eerily familiar to many of you I’m sure.
We generated a lot of marketplace heat in the early 90s, and grew to be a sizeable local business with a global reputation.
Our catalogues won many awards and were known and revered all over the world.
For a bunch of reasons, REMO went into hibernation in 1997 (we were living in the US at the time), and then in 2002 we came back online with a transactional version of remogeneralstore.com from a new base back home in Sydney.
We stayed online for 10 years, but ran out of steam in 2012. Here's how the website was looking shortly before we put it on ice.

REMO | Act III in Bondi
It’s been a few years since Melanie and I were out there and serving CustOMERs (OMER is REMO back to front, get it?) … and we finally feel ready for what will be Act III of the REMO General Story.
This time we’re going to operate a global direct-to-customer online service from our home and garage here, very near to the beach, in Bondi; super local and authentic … but very special. We're excited about it.
Yes indeed. Mom & Pop are back in the saddle with a simplified REMO brand only offer, and you get to deal directly with the founders.
Why Are We Excited?
REMO Act III in Bondi will serve to bring a much loved 27 year old brand back to life. Melanie and I have both invested a lot of time, blood, sweat & tears into REMO (and it hasn't always been an easy road to travel).
We're excited about bringing the brand back for retail CustOMERs because it feels intuitively like the right thing to do.
We're also excited for these 3 reasons:
1. Starting from scratch means that we can dramatically SIMPLIFY.
2. Focusing on our brand puts everything in our CONTROL ... and maximises the FUN.
3. It reconnects us to what was a great & global CustOMER COMMUNITY.
The merchandise range will be small but focused, and, as mentioned, limited to our own REMO branded products.
Initially the range will include our iconic REMO T Shirts … high quality 100% cotton, in black and white, sold plain and bearing a full portfolio of REMO designs, both classic and new.
We’ll also be reviving our famous Tempus Fugit A1 Wallplanner
… along with some other signature REMO branded stationery items.
There’ll be the classic hard cover A5 notebooks ...
... and also a new selection of spiral bound notebooks bearing a full range of REMO designs.
And YES there will be Stripey Things … maybe not to begin with, but as soon as we can afford to order them ... hopefully before the middle of next year.
It’s going to be great … but it will only happen with your help and support. If we reach our kickstarter goal the new business is a GO. If we do significantly better than that, we will be able to accelerate the return of the Stripey Thing and some other REMO branded items.

We hope that you like the rewards that we have come up with. Naturally enough they are focused on our revived REMO T Shirt offering (see above) ... BUT you'll get to choose. We'll work out how to extract those preferences from you after we've launched the website so that you can browse and choose your design(s).

Most of the rewards include Remo's book General Thinker ... which includes the complete REMO General Store back story.
Some rewards include a set of ten A4 posters, printed by Sydney's Digitalpress on BJ Ball Superfine Eggshell 270 gsm premium stock. The posters are designed to fit exactly within this A$14.99 IKEA frame. Yum.

Bondi Fresh Daily
In preparation for this relaunch Melanie and I launched a blog a few months ago called Bondi Fresh Daily. With the new REMO business launching here in Bondi, we figured that it would be good to integrate it closely with the local community.
Bondi Fresh Daily is a love letter to our beachside community … and will provide context for the new REMO General Store.

Risks and challenges
We've approved Chinese production samples of the T Shirts ... and so we don't feel that there's much risk associated with that merchandise. The same goes for the new spiral bound notebooks. In all cases we have produced these products before, and on many occasions. This kickstarter campaign is about bringing them back ... with improvements.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
