An entry level RPG for all kinds of people in all kinds of places that is aimed towards getting kids into the RPG scene as players and as creators.

There are so many great role-playing games out there it can be hard to know where one start, especially with kids. Many of the games also come with cultural assumptions that can seem to create barriers to entry for folks because of their race or religion or self identity. We at Reign Dragon Press do not believe this is a good way to get people into role-playing games. It sends the wrong message on who is allowed into the RPG sphere, which is of course everyone! Everyone is allowed to play and to create so let's make a system that encourages them to do so.

What will you get with ARMzine 2019?

  • A 5.5x8.5 RPG Zine in both PDF and Print (depending on where you back us)
  • A fully playable and simple RPG system for use in any genre and any experience level
  • Kid friendly GM advice
  • Tables for random adventure creation
  • ARM-Sheets for Characters and Non-Player Characters

Why not be part of something positive? Help support getting kids of all ages into RPGs in a positive and fun way. You won't regret it!

ARMzine is a simple system. The basic mechanic is Skill + 1D6, roll high, and fail forward. What this means is that whenever a roll is made, something happens. There is never a whiff factor.  Opponents and obstacles are represented by the other types of polyhedral dice or card draws, depending on what the players like best.

There is a Game Master (GM), but there will also be rules for running without a GM. The aim is to make the game accessible not just in general, but in the moment. To make all the lessons of the last forty years available to new folks, at a minimum of fuss and without any baggage.

To this end, there will be no setting or genre specifications. That is to say, everything is neutral to setting and genre. However, tables will exist that allow the players to create everything from an hour's worth of play to an entire campaign, should they choose. Each session, every session, can be entirely different from the last.

Stretch Goal #1 - Example Adventure - Science Fiction ($600)

At $600 I will include a full example adventure that shows the process of creating a SciFi adventure, complete with the 'random' rolls and how they work. FUNDED!

Stretch Goal #2 - Example Adventure - Urban Fantasy ($800)

At $800 I will include a full example adventure that shows the process of creating an Urban Fantasy adventure, complete with the 'random' rolls and how they work. FUNDED!

Stretch Goal #3 - Better Art! ($1200)

I will be hand drawing or creating much of the artwork. However, if we can get to $1200 I will contract with a talented artist to do the cover and the interior artwork.

Risks and challenges

We expect it to be done by September of 2019 but delays can happen. At the outside it would not be later than November 2019
