About this project
ELO Darkness is a new strategic player vs player (or team vs team) boardgame which combines the depth of the card-driven mechanics with the theme of a 3-Lane MOBA Arena.
The game aims to be a completely new tabletop perspective on MOBAs (Multiplayer Online Battle Arena) videogame genre with a complex and engaging mechanism, that gives the player control over the outcome of his actions and which relies on strategy and tough decision making at every turn.
Key features of the game:
• Unique 'Roaming mechanic' which links the hand management decisions with the strategy on a 3-Lane map.
• Multi-purpose Hero cards which players can use to farm gold, draw new cards from their deck as well as during combat, to increase the Influence on a Lane.
• Simultaneous action selection and deep card synergies.
• Draft system and deck/team building. Customize your own deck and take control of 5 unique Heroes, each one with its own role and abilities.
• Variable distances on the map. When the towers get destroyed the Lane becomes shorter making it easier to “come back” into the game. A player feels to be on the game until the last Challenge.
In ELO Darkness you control a team of 5 Heroes, being represented by a 40 card deck. Each Hero has 2 unique ability cards: 1 “Normal” (3x in the deck) and 1 “Ultimate” (2x in the deck).
Hero cards can be of two different types: Laner (Fighter, Mage and Marksman) are associated with a specific battlefront,
while the Ganker (Support and Jungler Heroes) can be played to support and reinforce any Lane during combat.
In addition, 15 Action cards complete the deck composition.
The game is a strategic duel where you fight against your opponent on 3 different Lanes illustrated on the board.
The object of the game is to advance on one Lane (one is enough!), destroy the enemy towers and invade the opponent’s base.
To do that, players have to farm resources, build their Heroes buying special Items and carefully manage their hand in order to plan ganks and combat strategies each turn of the game.
Combat relies on a simultaneous action selection mechanism which emulates the concurrent resolution of the fights as well as the limited visibility range on each Lane.
Laner Heroes are associated with a specific Lane, but through choices they can support other battlefronts. The Roaming mechanic allows you to plan your moves in advance in order to gank the opponent on a certain Lane at the price of retreating from another one.
However, ELO Darkness is not only about combat. One important aspect of the game is the gold farming and the hand management.
Players have multiple options to use their hero cards. During the Farming phase they can discard Heroes to farm gold or draw new cards from the deck.
Gold can be used to activate abilities, purchase or upgrade powerful items that unlock combo possibilities as well as increase the Hero Influence.
Heroes also gain experience points during farming and can level up in the game obtaining permanent Influence bonuses.
Every aspect of the game has been designed to recreate the feeling of MOBAs. Here are some features that players have enjoyed the most:
• Focus on the team synergies and interactions between Heroes
• Step by step approach to the enemy base on an epic 3-Lane map
• Farming aspect: gain gold and build your Heroes buying and upgrading powerful items
And going deeper:
• Each combat is a “trade” with the opponent!
You have to find a balance between the cards to play and the ones to keep: how much Influence are you willing to invest on a single Challenge? Choose the right moment for triggering your powerful combos.
• Fast pace and tense team-fight.
The game recreates the feeling of a sudden crowded Lane and reproduces the thin margin moving the balance from one side to another during combat: every single +1 Influence bonus you gain can make the difference.
• Exciting late-game feeling where losing a fight can completely twist the match.
Towers get destroyed and removed from the board. Distances on the map become shorter and you feel in the game until the last Challenge!
• Get greedy and Kill your opponent!
Heroes can be killed during a Challenge and thanks to the Greedy option the player is constantly confronted with the choice of consolidating an advantage over the opponent or taking the risk and exposing himself further.
This possibility to take control of the Boss cards enlarge the strategic options available during the game and gives the feeling of a Big Boss spawn as in the MOBA genre videogames.
The other gameplay element added through the expansion is the introduction of Elder Spells.
Elder Spells are special powers that the players choose at the beginning of the game (2 Elder Spells for each player) and can be used only once granting a powerful bonus.

Each player has his own warrior to defend his Lanes and with which to stop the opponent’s team advance.
Customize the Heroes' aspect with exclusive Skin illustrations!
More Skins will be unlocked through the stretch goals and will be added to the KS Exclusive Promo Skin Pack.
In the Team vs Team mode each player controls only 2 Heroes: 1 Laner Hero and 1 Ganker, for a total of 20 cards including 10 Action cards chosen by the player.
Each player fights along 1 Lane and can gank on the other one to support his ally. Gold pool and items are shared between allies, but apart from that, the game stays the same.
It flows more rapidly and it brings out the coordination and the interaction between the players.
Since the configuration changes drastically, mutating into a duel on a 2-Lane map, we are designing a beautiful new gameboard dedicated to this variant.
If we collect enough funds (STRETCH GOALS spoiler ALERT!), we are going to produce it and add it to the Core Set of the game!
ELO Darkness focuses on Hero interaction and card synergy.
With the draft mode, you can dynamically build your deck and customize your own Team.

Indeed, the games will be shipped from within the United States, Canada, Europe and Australia. This way, in most cases, you will not have to pay customs or VAT as we are offering Customs Friendly Shipping to the countries where most of our backers are located.
Shipping will be charged via Backerkit after the Kickstarter campaign ends, based on the actual shipment costs incurred. By doing so, we can be fair to all our backers since shipping is rarely one size fits all.

Risks and challenges
We can’t deny that there might be risks backing a new company debuting here on Kickstarter, but we have really worked hard to mitigate as many risks as possible.
For over a year now, we’ve been dedicating our time to the analysis and the study of all the critical points linked to the Kickstarter world.
We've read everything about the topic on Stonemaier Games' blog (thank you Jamey!) and consulted other creators for suggestions and tricks on how to optimize production times and manage fulfillment the best way possible.
The game has taken about 2 years of development and relies on solid and tested mechanics. Most of the artwork is done and we're just putting finishing touches on graphic design. Any stretch goal that requires further art will be completed as well.
It has taken a lot of work to balance the game and we trust everything will be ready for going into production in a few months after the campaign ends, considering the stretch goals finalising process.
Whatz Games will be our partner for the manufacturing and we really trust in their professionalism and experience in the game industry.
