COMPOST TEA REPLACES SYNTHETIC CHEMICAL FERTILIZERS.

GEOTEA STORY:

What if we could use compost tea as a replacement for chemical fertilizers & pesticides in our landscaping practices? In search of finding the answer to this critical question, I traveled 11000 miles with Bob Posthuma (the inventor of GEOTEA Compost Tea Machines). We met scientists, visionaries, farmers, and entrepreneurs who are all using compost tea to create healthy soil. This new method of replacing synthetic chemical fertilizers with compost tea is used in some of the most amazing locations in the country. Battery Park, one of the most beautiful parks in NYC uses compost tea to feed their green foliage. Harvard University uses compost tea to build soil & a healthier environment for students. Brooklyn Bridge Park has brought migratory bird to Brooklyn by feeding their trees with compost tea. They have created a new ecosystem in less than 2 years. Compost tea has created some of the most beautiful parks in The Hampton's. Steve Stumbras has changed the look and the health of his golf course through using compost tea. There are 1000s of public parks, golf course, football fields, school yards, and … that now use synthetic chemical fertilizers. If we can replace all of that with compost tea, we not only create healthier soil, but sequester CO2 in to soil, conserve water, save money in our businesses, and avoid washing off toxins to our ocean. This can change the health of our precious planet in a very short amount of time. This film needs to be made. Instead of going to Hollywood, I have come here to community funding website. I can't make this film without your help. Every single penny you contribute will be used for making this film. Please watch the trailer and pledge.

STEVE STUMBRAS & ECOFACTS AT GOLF COURSE

You need it all. You need to have very high-quality compost that has the proper organisms, but you also need a good compost tea machine that is able to extract those organisms. Finally you also need to have great people out there that are concerned about a healthier planet for all species.

NORMAN ARANCON, UNIVERSITY OF HAWAII IN HILO AND COMPOST TEA

Norman Arancon Assistant Professor of Horticulture at University of Hawaii in Hilo, College of Agriculture, Forestry and Natural Resource Management printed an amazing book on the crucial role of compost tea. University of Hawaii in Hilo is the only university that offers sustainable agriculture in the tropics. It is also the only university that offers tropical agriculture in the United States. The students are exposed to the gardening and farming in university’s “Living Laboratory”. The university recently published “Tea Time” book to inform the importance of using compost tea to practice sustainable agriculture. GeoTea machine was features as one of the most efficient ways to make compost tea.

BOB POSTHUMA AND SOIL INGREDIENTS

Healthy soil is made of 45% Parent Material (sand, silt, clay), 25% pore space, 25% water, and 5% (the most important part of healthy soil) organic material.

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Compost V.S. Compost Tea

Making compost tea is much more effective and practical. Instead of making tons of compost - that needs a lot of waste material and a huge amount of managing it - you make a small amount of good compost and make compost tea with that in a big container. You can then spray that compost tea over a large area of agricultural land.

BOB POSTHUMA, HEALTH AND UNIVERSITIES, BOSTON, MA

At Harvard University they started using compost tea at a one acre test plot. After one season they expanded that to 16 acres. A year after that they expanded using compost tea to the whole campus are of 80 acres. Harvard University is not using any synthetic chemical fertilizers. They have increased their top soil to from 3 to 10 inches.

PAUL WAGNER - HEALTHY PUBLIC PARKS - THE HAMPTONS, NY

Paul Wagner: Plants are over 50% carbon. They take all that carbon in through the leaves. The great thing about compost tea is that it puts actively respiring microbes that give off carbon right on the leaf surface so the plants can take it right in. This improves the fitness of the plants.

JAMES SOTTILO - SOIL PROFILE - BOSTON, MA

Under your feet there is a different world filled with billion of species that are working hard to build soil. James Sottilo: "There are all these avenues of fungi going back and forth in the entire soil profile that we have created using compost tea. By using compost tea, you create an environment filled with enough organic matter. In early may we practice a compost tea application to inoculate the whole surface of the leaves. We also do a lot of root injection. This way the whole system becomes self sustaining."

Risks and challenges Learn about accountability on Kickstarter

Here is the biggest challenge we are facing now. In hollywood if you say I am working on a low-budget film, that means you have at least $300,000 in your bank account. We can't even call it low-budget. So from the beginning we decided to call it a no-budget film.

We filmed tons of footage with our credit cards so far. But we still have to get out there and film more. We also have to find artists that are willing to get paid very little to help us in narrating, composing music and adding 3 dimensional graphics. I do know some great artists that I can connect with but again people have their own challenges and daily problems that have to take care of.

And these are challenges that we can think of. There are other challenges for example the golf course looked amazing with pictures but what if there was a drought in that area when we go in June to film. Hopefully not.

We don't even want to worry about the film sales now. We are focusing on finishing the film first. And since the story relates to the health of all species, we are hoping to get a lot of people to help us in this process.

We are putting all of our resources to finish this film. But it is possible we won't be on time is some of our deadlines. One thing we promise that we will be constantly in touch and let you know where we are with the project and what is our plan to move it to the next level. You will know ASAP when challenges arise.

Although there are many amazing people involved but every one has trusted me and signed a waiver and has given me the right to make decisions so we can constantly move forward.

They say a film is made 3 times, when you write it, when you film it, and when you edit it. It depends to many different factors. The finished film will be made based on the realistic flow. We are hoping to raise money in many other ways through grants from foundations, individuals, and big companies but if that does not happen, although the story still remains the same but it will be a simpler film with less graphics.

Non of this process has been easy, not easy to convince the inventor to give us his time that he didn't really have, not easy to travel 11,000 miles, and it won't be easy to edit. Most likely it won't be easy to get it into festivals, it won't be easy to market it, and it won't be easy to get it noticed.

But with the story that will hopefully present a solution that can affect the health of many species, can help us save money, and … and with all of the crazy challenges that we presented to you, we invite you to still take a chance and ride on this crazy journey with us in making this film. We will all do our best to get to the finish line by end of 2013, so that we can send our funders (you!) their rewards in a timely manner and meet the deadlines for some of the greatest film festivals.

Thank you for trusting us on this journey.
