About this project
"Instead of aiming for perfection, run with what you've got and fix it as you go." - Paul Arden
In 2007, Nathan Price (Unwed Sailor, Broncho, The Hero Factor) and I started demoing some song ideas in my apartment and also in his bedroom at a Brookside duplex, which has since been leveled. Those demos found some structure and layered finesse at Blackwatch Studio (Norman, OK). I sat on those recordings for so long, fine tuning and trying to make them perfect, finally releasing the introduction to Refund Division in December 2010. Almost 2 1/2 years later, I realized perfection as a standard can be a void draining the life out of a project; really what I needed to do is "run with what you've got."
A lot has changed since the band's first EP. Ben King (Broncho, Cheyenne) has been added to the creative process, making Refund Division a three-piece writing team. We began writing for our first full length album in a make-shift rehearsal space in downtown Tulsa a year ago. After grinding through a hot summer and enduring a cold winter in the warehouse, the writing process has proven to be valuable. Amps blown, drums and cymbals breaking - the struggle has helped shape these new songs.
We are unashamed of our strength- our songs display their raw power when we play live, and challenge the sterility of most studios. We have the opportunity to record these songs the way they are intended to be captured: we will be tracking live in the studio for six days in June with engineer and close friend, Jason Weinheimer. Confident that working with Jason in Fellowship Hall (Little Rock, AR) is the best way to capture these new songs, we have a modest budget to make this happen. Kickstarter has created an avenue for you, the appreciator, to help this creative process and develop these songs. Thanks for your support.
