Ka-Zing: The Spell Casting Game System
A card game with variable difficulty and many different ways to play, where spells are cast by linking wand movements with magic words.
This project will only be funded if it reaches its goal by Mon, December 3 2018 11:00 PM UTC +00:00.
Ka-Zing is a card game system where players link together a series of wand movement cards with a magic word card to cast spells. The cards can be used to play a variety of games with different objectives for players to achieve in order to prove that they are the best Mage / Witch / Wizard / Sorceress / Warlock / Enchanter.
Ka-Zing consists of 126 game play cards (and some reference cards) and is a game that can be easily taken anywhere and enjoyed by everyone. We have seen Ka-Zing enjoyed by children, parents, those who play board games occasionally and experienced gamers.
This campaign is to fund the printing of Ka-Zing. The cards have been developed and playtested over the last 2+ years and are now going through their final update with new artwork being produced and the rules booklet going through refinement stages. The new artwork has been commissioned and will enable us to have a different background for each different suit (magic resonance) in the deck, and thus minimise any potential difficulties with impaired colour vision.
In this video we cover how to cast spells and game play for the three starting game types: Precision, Thaumaturgy and Duel.
Current version of the rules booklet can be found here
The cards of one magic resonance (suit) at Initiate/Apprentice level difficulty can be found here. There are three other magic resonances, using the same set of cards. Design your game using these cards that are available for Initiate/Apprentice level.
For Ka-Zing playmats, you will be able to choose which Wizard or Witch background (there will be 4 options) you want.
There will also be the pdf for each playmat on our website if you just want to download a copy and print it out. You can find the version with our prototype wizard background here.
We have not paid for any of the previews or podcasts, beyond the postage costs to send out preview copies of Ka-Zing. We are really grateful to everyone who everyone who has taken their time to not only preview a prototype copy of the game and rule set, but to also write or record a preview.

Risks and challenges
This is our second game to go onto Kickstarter, so we have already been through process of getting a card game printed, shipped to us and all rewards delivered.
In terms of the game, all the development of the cards have been completed. The new artwork is being produced, and this is going to be one of the biggest delays to getting the card files sent to the printers. We will be working on the next iteration of rules booklet whilst the artwork is being completed, and will ensure that it is properly checked and tested to make sure that we release a clear and easy to follow set of rules for the game.
For getting the game printed, we will be using a company that has produced games in the past and has a track record of dispatching a game within 10 weeks of final sign off of the game files. Our hope is to have Ka-Zing ready for AireCon in March, BUT, things can happen beyond our control, so we are planning for a May release and will update our backers if we are able to get Ka-Zing out sooner.
Fulfillment: We will be using BackerKit for management of pledges after the campaign, as we found the platform beneficial for our Vote ME! campaign. We will be using fulfillment companies to deliver pledges, and so will be able to provide USA and Australia friendly shipping. One of the big unknowns is the Brexit situation. We hope to be able to ship before any changes due to Brexit have an effect, but if this is not likely to happen, we will make sure that we minimise any impact this has to our backers.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
