Dreamfall Chapters is the long-awaited sequel to acclaimed PC adventure games The Longest Journey and Dreamfall: The Longest Journey
Dreamfall Chapters: The Longest Journey is a 3D adventure game for Mac, Linux and Windows PC that takes the player on an epic journey across the twin worlds of Stark and Arcadia; from a futuristic cyberpunk vision of our world, to a realm of powerful magic and dangerous beauty.
With Dreamfall Chapters, we will finally continue the darkly magical story that began in the critically acclaimed and award-winning adventures The Longest Journey and Dreamfall: The Longest Journey.
Independently developed by Red Thread Games, this project brings back the core team behind Dreamfall, including Ragnar Tørnquist, creator of The Longest Journey saga.
The world of Arcadia exists in parallel and balance with ours. It is a world of magic and chaos, a counterweight to Stark, the world of science and order. The Balance between the twin worlds is watched over by the Guardian, who channels the energies of Chaos and Order between Arcadia and Stark.
Some people are able to move freely between worlds. These very special individuals are called Shifters. There are not many left, and those who can Shift keep it a secret to the world.
Some people can travel in a different way, dreaming themselves into other worlds, existing in two places at once. They are called Dreamers.
At this point, there is only one known Dreamer in the twin worlds: Zoë Castillo.
Dreamfall Chapters concludes the Dreamer Cycle and the gripping story of Zoë, the Dreamer.
Revisiting familiar locations and characters, and introducing new sights and sounds, new faces, new game mechanics, new thrills and challenges, Dreamfall Chapters takes players on an epic journey -- from the dystopian cyberpunk future of Stark, through the mysterious and dreamlike Storytime, to the magical landscapes of Arcadia.
Dreamfall Chapters is a game made for both fans of the saga and new players who are looking for an adventure unlike any other: one that crosses the divide between two completely different and original worlds.
With this latest game in the saga, we will recapture the heart and soul of The Longest Journey and improve on the immersion and game mechanics of Dreamfall in order to bring you a fitting, satisfying and emotional conclusion to the Dreamer Cycle.
- Experience a deep and complex storyline that continues the epic saga of The Longest Journey
- Explore a beautiful, rich, detailed, interactive and living world that mixes a cyberpunk vision of the future with magical fantasy, along with a broken and decaying dreamworld
- Play as three different characters, all on journeys across worlds, through life, and into their own hearts and souls
- 3D point-and-click interface and engaging adventure gameplay

The Longest Journey (1999) is a point-and-click adventure game, telling the story of April Ryan, an unlikely heroine who goes on a long journey to save the Balance between the twin worlds of Stark and Arcadia. The game received amazing reviews and won multiple awards. It's recognised as one of the top 100 PC games of all time, and it currently holds a 91% Metacritic rating.
You can add a digital copy of The Longest Journey to your current pledge for $10.
Dreamfall: The Longest Journey (2006) continued the story of April Ryan, and begun the story of Zoë Castillo. The follow-up received glowing reviews and won several game of the year awards.

If you haven't played Dreamfall, you may want to skip the following section. There are massive spoilers ahead.
We will release an interactive graphic novel, retelling the story so far, prior to Dreamfall Chapters. There will also be a comprehensive in-game recap, and the game has been designed to introduce new players to the characters and story.
The Undreaming is Unchained.
The last time we met Zoë Castillo, the Dreamer, she was in a deep coma. She had saved the world from the ghost in the machine that had taken residence in the ethereal realm of the Winter, but in the end Zoë was betrayed and left for dead. Her body is now in a hospital in Casablanca.
Her mind, however, is elsewhere.
Trapped inside the mysterious Storytime, Zoë must learn to control her dreams and confront the past before she can resume her life.
In Arcadia, we witnessed April Ryan, the Shifter, mortally wounded by one of the Azadi, foreign invaders of the Northlands. Kian Alvane, an assassin working for the rulers of the Azadi nation, has been sentenced to death for treason. He awaits execution in the prison tower of Friar's Keep.
In our world, Stark, the shadowy corporation WatiCorp has released the Dreamer. Half the world is hooked up to the dream machine, and society is crumbling. And in Marcuria, the Azadi are cementing their power once more, while their mystical tower continues to harvest dreams.
Unless something is done, unless our heroes can awake and be reborn, the future is bleak. What is WatiCorp planning? Who is the Prophet? How are the Azadi involved?
The answers to those questions will be found in Dreamfall Chapters.
Plenty of familiar faces will return, along with many of the original voice actors from both The Longest Journey and Dreamfall.
Players will experience the story through the eyes of three different characters as their unique paths and separate plots intersect.
The central character of our story is Zoë Castillo, a twenty-one year old girl who saved the world in Dreamfall before falling into a deep coma over a year ago.
Players will once again play as Zoë as she learns to use her emerging talents, escapes the Storytime, travels to Europolis and eventually crosses the Divide into the magical world of Arcadia.
The second playable character in the game is Kian Alvane. We will have more information on this character soon, on our official website.
Many favourite characters will also return, including Crow, sidekick extraordinaire; Blind Bob, the not-so-blind beggar; Benrime Salmin, innkeeper of the Journeyman Inn and member of the resistance; Roper Klacks, author of 'Farewell to my Wizardin' Days'; the enigmatic Vagabond; the equally enigmatic Brian Westhouse; April's old friend Emma; and Zoë's ex-boyfriend Reza Temiz, whose identity was left in doubt at the end of Dreamfall -- and more!
And, of course, players will learn the destiny of April Ryan, and see the continuation of her storyline. From unlikely heroine to haunted rebel, April's life is central to The Longest Journey saga, and we will answer the question that has haunted everyone:
Is April Ryan dead?
Stark is a cyberpunk vision of future Earth. Having suffered a setback with the mysterious Collapse in 2209, society was on the rebound when Dreamfall began.
It's now 2220, and WatiCorp's Dreamer has been released. Society is slowly crumbling as billions find themselves hopelessly addicted to lucid dreams. Linked up to the dangerous machines at home and in opium den-like Dream Factories, they escape reality by dreaming themselves into oblivion.
Arcadia is a magical mirror to our world; a realm where science and logic are replaced with magic and chaos. It is a wondrous world of strange species and grand cities, of epic armies and vast, unexplored landscapes.
From the Northlands and its capital, Marcuria -- now occupied by the Azadi army -- and the distant Southlands, where the Iron Court rules over a dangerous and wild continent, to the mysterious west, where the Azadi nation have built their powerful empire, Dreamfall Chapters opens this magical world even more.
And finally there is Storytime, the place where every story begins, and where dreams come to life...
Dreamfall Chapters is a 3D adventure game featuring a combination point-and-click and direct control interface. For a look at our prototype, check out this video:
We are combining the best parts of The Longest Journey and Dreamfall to create what we hope will be another classic adventure; a game filled with mature dialogue and challenging puzzles, exciting exploration, complex and fun characters, thrilling plot twists and an engaging and emotional story.
Dreamfall Chapters will have the magic, heart and soul, and the lush, interactive environments of The Longest Journey, filled with things to look at and explore. It will have an interface that harkens back to traditional point-and-click adventures. It will have the detailed 3D worlds of Dreamfall, where players can lose themselves in expansive locations and living environments, along with puzzles and challenges that are completely plot-driven and an integral part of the game's narrative.
We've brought back the core team members from Dreamfall: The Longest Journey to make Dreamfall Chapters, including award-winning writer and designer Ragnar Tørnquist, creator of The Longest Journey saga; Dag Scheve, co-writer of Dreamfall; and Christer Sveen, art director on Dreamfall.
Joining the team are lead designer Martin Bruusgaard (Age of Conan, The Secret World), technical directors Kjetil Hjeldnes (The Longest Journey, Dreamfall, The Secret World) and Eigil Jarl Halse (Dreamfall, The Secret World), artist Sigbjørn Galåen (Dreamfall, Age of Conan, The Secret World), producer Rakel Johnsen (Age of Conan, The Secret World), and programmers Quintin Pan (Age of Conan, The Secret World) and Audun Tørnquist (The Longest Journey).
The Dreamfall Chapters team is highly experienced, talented and passionate, and we know, respect and love The Longest Journey universe. We're all excited to finally be able to continue telling the story we began way back in 1999.
Red Thread Games is an independent developer. We have licensed the rights to The Longest Journey saga from Funcom, but we are not receiving any outside investment.
We will publish Dreamfall Chapters ourselves through digital channels, in order to retain control over the story and the gameplay from beginning to end. With Kickstarter, not only can we make the game adventure gamers want to play, we also don't have to make any compromises. In addition, we can maintain an open dialogue with the community throughout production.
With total transparency into the development process, our pledgers will have the chance to closely follow the progress of the next chapter in The Longest Journey saga. And we will have the opportunity to talk directly to our supporters, and hopefully provide you with insight into our production.
Your money will go towards building the game. To hire artists, animators, designers and programmers. To create the worlds, the characters, the tools and the technology. To buy hardware and software licenses, pay for office space and infrastructure, and, finally, to release the game in November 2014.
Your pledges are incredibly important to us. In return we pledge to make every dollar count, and to deliver a game we can all be proud of -- one that lives up to the legacy of The Longest Journey saga.
Every pledger gets a badge on the official Dreamfall Chapters forums. Here you can discuss the game with other fans, and you can interact with the development team, ask questions and offer suggestions.
Every pledger receives a wallpaper pack. A $5 pledge gets you three wallpapers; a $20 pledge includes five wallpapers, and from $50 you get 10 wallpapers. Wallpapers come in a variety of sizes (from 1280x720 up to 2880x1800) and will be available before the end of 2013.
Every tier from $25 and up includes a digital copy of the game. This digital copy will be available for download DRM free when the game launches in November 2014. You can add additional digital copies to any pledge above $20 by managing your pledge.
Tiers above $110 (excluding the $150 digital-only tier) include a boxed copy for PC, Mac or Linux. You can read more about the various boxes here. If you want an additional Journeyman Edition box, you can add it to any physical pledge by managing your pledge.
This short-story collection contains three novellas and a bridging story that delve into the background of characters you will encounter in Dreamfall Chapters. Journeys: Birth will be available in a variety of formats, including PDF, EPUB and MOBI, printed paperback, and an exclusive audiobook version. The digital text versions of this collection will be available in 2013.
This book comes in both PDF and printed hardcover versions and contains concept art, sketches and renders from Dreamfall Chapters, as well as comments by the art director and artists working on the game.
A book crammed with detailed The Longest Journey and Dreamfall lore -- from the obvious to the obscure -- drawings, character descriptions, trivia, dark secrets and more. The Tome of the Balance will come in both PDF and printed versions.
While we're making Dreamfall Chapters, we will be putting together a making-of video showing what goes on behind the scenes. This making-of video will be released in installments during the production. Pledgers will have access to additional material, outtakes and behind-the-scenes footage.
This graphic novel will tell multiple stories from The Longest Journey universe, and will expand on characters, locations and situations only hinted at in the games -- including a journey back to April Ryan's childhood. The graphic novel will be made available before the launch of the game in 2014.
All pledges above $50 include the full soundtrack in CD-quality digital format. The Complete Boxed Edition also includes a limited edition CD version of the soundtrack. You can add the audio CD soundtrack to any physical tier by managing your pledge.
The unique 16GB Wonkers the Watilla Dreamfall Chapters USB key contains all digital content, including the game, soundtrack, and supplementary materials.

Red Thread Games is an independent studio founded by Ragnar Tørnquist, creator of The Longest Journey saga, The Secret World, and co-creator of the Anarchy Online universe.

Risks and challenges Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
We founded Red Thread Games in order to produce and publish Dreamfall Chapters. Our team has extensive experience making games -- from titles such as The Longest Journey and Dreamfall, The Secret World and Age of Conan, Anarchy Online and many others.
We have invested a lot of our own money in Red Thread Games and Dreamfall Chapters, and we have also been lucky enough to receive a $175,000 grant from the Norwegian Film Institute to make a prototype. Without this money, we wouldn't be where we are today. It has allowed us to create a playable prototype, featuring several locations, characters, and a working GUI and control system.
We have also joined forces with Blink Studios, the talented team behind the upcoming action-RPG Skar: The Hammer Returns, to ensure that we have some of the best artists in the business working on the game.
We started development on a prototype several months ago, in order to be able to make some key design decisions and to reality-check our ideas and ambitions. We're using the Unity engine in order to reduce technical risks, and we're making good progress -- but game development is, of course, not an exact science. A game has to first and foremost be fun, it has to have a personality and soul, and we want to make Dreamfall Chapters worth the long, long wait.
In order to tell the full story and to produce all those puzzles and game mechanics, those beautiful locations and intriguing characters, all the mature dialogue, wonderful music and strange, magical creatures, we need more people, and we need a lot more time.
This is why we're asking for your support and your pledges. Red Thread Games is funding Dreamfall Chapters independently, and without our fans and the community, we won't be able to do this.
In return, we promise to make the game that all of you have been waiting for.
We believe in total transparency and constant communication, and we will update all of our pledgers on the progress via the official forums, the Red Thread Games and Dreamfall Chapters websites, our newsletter, through blog posts, video updates, Twitter, Facebook and more.
Your pledges are incredibly important to us. In return we pledge to make every dollar count, and to deliver a game we can all be proud of -- one that lives up to the legacy of The Longest Journey saga.
Thank you for your support, and may the Balance be with you, always.

Red Thread Games
The game will be available for Windows PC, Mac and Linux.
We want to do it all! We are a small studio, though, and our peoples are few, so we need to do First Things First. And first off the bat will be the PC, Mac and Linux. But the Ouya looks great and we'd want nothing more than to port Dreamfall Chapters to mobile platforms...eventually. Primarily tablets, of course; we're not sure a phone is the best place to play such a beautiful looking game.
At any rate, there will be stretch goals. And we will consider all platforms. In time.
Not for the time being. Unless you consider one of the above platforms to be a 'console', because Things Are Changing. We'd love to be on (the next) Xbox and (the soon-to-be-announced) Playstation, of course, but not at the expense of all the other platforms. So we'll see. Nothing is impossible and everything is doable.
If we meet our stretch goal at $1,250,000, then yes, it will!
We hope to have both subtitles and voice-overs in German and French at launch.
What about other languages? Polish, Spanish, Italian, Swedish, Japanese, Chinese, Korean, Portuguese, Klingon?
Hopefully! We will be speaking with distributors in the various markets, to ensure that we can produce high quality localised versions of Dreamfall Chapters in a variety of languages -- preferably both voice and text. Our hope is that we will have a solid selection of languages at release, with more following in the months after.
(This might also be part of our stretch goals, so stay tuned.)
We will absolutely be making a Norwegian language version, however. We're a Norwegian development studio. It's only fair.
We're working on it! Regardless of those negotiations, however, we will be providing our pledgers with DRM free versions of Dreamfall Chapters through high-quality channels. Hopefully that will also include both Steam and GOG. We'll inform all of our pledgers when we have more information.
We know how important this is to you guys, and we will be providing DRM free copies of the game, both digitally, on DVD and on USB, to our pledgers.
We ship worldwide. There is a shipping fee for all addresses outside the U.S.
About European/EU shipping:
We are right now working on figuring out the best way to ship to our European customers from within the EU, in order to avoid additional VAT and customs charges. We will not be able to ship locally everywhere, but at least we can cover Europe/EU and the U.S. Other locations will need to receive their boxes from one of those two shipping locations. We will give our pledgers a choice of where to receive their goods from, when we get closer to launch. We are confident that we'll have a solution in place well before your boxes ship out!
No, Dreamfall Chapters is NOT an episodic game, despite the title. You're pledging for a complete story, in a complete package, and the game you get on launch day is the FULL game with a beginning, a middle, and a definite end.
We haven't yet locked down the number of gameplay hours, since that depends a bit on the Kickstarter and possible stretch goals, but we'll know more when the Kickstarter concludes.
Yes! Please visit this link to pledge via PayPal:
All PayPal pledges will count towards our stretch goals when the Kickstarter campaign concludes. We will update our funding total and stretch goals on our website after the Kickstarter ends.
Yes, we will. We're trying to figure out how best to produce and ship these, and we're working on some designs, but there will be t-shirts.
Hey, Zoë is an adult, she makes her own choices, we're not her parents. And as for "hey, how can she have a piercing when she's in a coma?" who says that particular model isn't from some point later in the game? Because it totally is.
But we are listening, and we do care. So here's the deal. We'll keep reading your comments, we'll gauge your response, and if a lot of people want Zoë to remove the stud and keep her nose clean, we will provide that option in the game. In other words, YOU might be able to exert control over Zoë and ask her to PLEASE remove the nose stud. And she might just listen.
