The playthrough will be recorded on twitch.tv so you don't have to worry about being able to watch in realtime though I wouldn't object to its inclusion : D
As someone who has already played through TLJ and Dreamfall, I was wondering:
would you be able to include this video as part of the extras included in the limited edition packages?
I would love to hear your commentary on the game, but I work weekends and probably won't be tuning in to the live play-through of Dreamfall. =/
@Max, I would like to add to William's comment, which I completely agree with.
1. Considering that the original game cost 3 million, and Dreamfall cost 5 million, RT is running on a really tight budget.
2. You personally are not paying an extra $50,000 for the game, so how does this affect you?
3. Accomplishing stretch goals = more press. More press = more backers.
@ben: I am not an RTG developer but from what they have said at various times it seems unlikely. If anyone did it, it would almost have to be FUNCOM so you might ask over there.
That said, you can run The Longest Journey on Parallels. I just finished replaying the GOG version on the latest version of Parallels and it works fine.
Dreamfall can be run native using Cider, Wineskin, or Crossover. It may run on Parallels but I haven't tried that recently. I am personally running Dreamfall using Cider (Snow Leopard). Things like Cider or Wineskin can be tricky to install though.
I'm loving you guys more and more with every update. Thanks for caring about your fans!
I'm just been playing through then again, done TLJ and just through the caves in DTLJ. hopefully I can finish dreamfall again before the live play through.
I am SO excited about this :D I was wondering if you think you'll ever port the original two games to Mac?
@Max: That is nice in theory but it never works out in practice so at the very least you must fully test all of the versions and almost certainly fix a few bugs. After that you have support for three sets of distribution media, manufacturing costs, etc. The list goes on. Finally, you have to budget with an allowance for problems rather than assume that everything will work perfectly.
It looked like from one of the previous videos that you guys are using Unity to develop Chapters. From my experience, going from Windows to Mac and Linux is not exactly a complicated process (File->Build->Select Mac/Linux from dropdown menu).
Are there other parts of the development that require time to port (libraries or the like)? Is some of the extra cost earmarked for support? Does support alone cost $50K?
A live playthrough of Dreamfall sounds brilliant! It's been a while since I've played it -- ordered the Xbox version just a few days back. If you guys can record the playthrough on YouTube (which now allows up to 10 hours per video, I think) that'll be even more amazing and should benefit many who can't see the session in its entirety.
Rubber duck FTW, guys! I love nonsense, LOL
I'm not sure I'll make it to the playthrough, unfortunately. I'm going to do my best, but the amount of schoolwork I have hanging over my shoulders has reached a level I no longer can ignore. If you could make a recording of it open to all it's done, I'd literally get the luckiest person alive (no. It's not going to make me as happy as your announcement of Red Thread Games and Dreamfall Chapters did, but still). Either that, or if maybe one of you other fans with the power to record the broadcast can provide it in some way afterwards (with Red Thread Games' permission?), it would be super appreciated!
I just finished Dreamfall yet again a few minutes ago. It has passed so many years that I didn't even remember I had finished the game 7 years ago. But as I played again the memories came back.
With that said I'll have to send out a call to all players. fans or not of adventure games.
Check this games out. If you don't want to get the game, check the gameplay videos on youtube. They do this games justice. Everything about this games is about quality storytelling similar to what can be found in the best movies. One of the best soundtracks of any game to this day.
You need to give this series a chance to really appreciate this guys work.
I'll bet you'll have pledged for Dreamfall :Chapters by the time you've finished.
William Walsh: on that note, I want the return of Constable Guybrush. :)
Could you guys please clarify the issue of picking the platform? Will we be allowed to pick just one of the platforms?
It occurs to me that a principle character was missing from Dreamfall. Perhaps he should return.
I am referring, of course, to The Rubber Duck.
What would a TLJ game be without a rubber duck?
Maybe even a rubber duck T-Shirt.
Will you be offering all 3 platforms to people who purchase or do we have to choose one or the other and only that one?
Obviously I'd like to have all 3 preferably :v (Particularly since I run both Windows and Linux)
Which is becoming more common with things like steam offering a single purchase across 3 platforms.
But I'll understand if not :v
I can't wait to see the devs take on the Necropolis with April. lol
A week ago, I finally sat down over the weekend and played through and completed Dreamfall (after several false starts throughout the past 7 years). I would estimate that it took me somewhere between 15 - 20 hours to play through the game. I had already completed half of the game years before, so I already had a good idea on what to do for many parts, so that likely helped me churn through the earlier chapters. But I imagine if someone knows what they are doing, they could get through the game even faster.
I finished The Longest Journey a couple of days ago, and now 3 hours into Dreamfall. Better finish Dreamfall before I hear this commentary!
And yes "when it comes to combat - what we weren't thinking" hehe
I was excited by the concept of a lore library before. Now, I'm ecstatic! :D And I know we'll reach that stretch goal. Its gonna be awesome!
The interactive comic is reminiscent of Mass Effect to me. (Minus the event changing choices, of course.) I like it and hope we get enough funding to make it. :)
Looking forward to the video of that Dreamfall play-through. :) Keep up the awesome work, guys!
Why not submit the game to Steam Greenlight and enable Steamplay? Since Steam now supports Windows, OS X and Linux (Ubuntu) people would not have to choose just one platform.
Please tell me the live playthrough is going to be recorded! I can't make the live viewing =(
Excellent - I will be watching on Friday, it's been a couple of years since I last played Dreamfall.
The comic sounds great too!
Oh, YES! T-shirts!
My MONEY is ready.
Oh Red Thread mentioning t-shirts...yay! The illustrations are indeed lovely and I can´t wait to see what you guys come up with! I would love something that truly captures the beautiful art in Dreamfall and the magic of the world.
What an awesome update :) The interactive comic sounds like a lot of fun, but definitely aimed at new players. I mean how can Ragnar and co. seriously think that we would not re-play Dreamfall for the millionth time just before Chapters is released? hehe :)
The playthrough is again great for new fans, but I will also tune in to watch a little! Very nice idea!
Hell yea, I'll deffo be watching your stream, this is gonna be great! :)
Looking forward for the live playthrough guys! It would be nice to hear some commentaries on Dreamfall right from the creators, especially when it's LIVE. :)
Is it really necessary for us to choose just one platform? Because whilst a good native Linux version is always my first choice, I have had to resort to running the Windows versions of games on occasion because the Linux port is buggy, or doesn't like my graphics drivers, or just plain has issues...
I don't know if they know what they're in for. It's gonna take like 20 hours with all the questions and comments!
I can't wait for the live playthrough. I always love reading or watching Let's Plays that take into account what went on behind the scenes, so some perspective from the developers themselves should be fascinating.
I hope we get the interactive comic stretch goal! Sounds great! And I'll SO be there on Friday. And what are these whispers of t-shirts? O.O
you guys are the kings of updates! i dont know of any other kickstarter where the producers give the backers so much feedback and insight as you. that's just awesome :)
The only important word in these comments for me is: "t-shirts". Yay! And this is my final comment on KS for today, as it is bed-time for us working EU-types.

Will this playthrough be recorded and posted so we can view it later or can we only catch it live?
I'm glad to hear all this. Because I honestly had no clue about the Dreamfall adventures before. I always liked adventures a lot, but didn't play games on PC for a very long time now, so this game is all new to me; after hearing that the story will pick up just where the last game left off, I was a little worried that I'll probably not understand what's going on at all. I'm glad you'll address that properly!
Can't wait to see how complete the library will be. I read quite a bit, so do not hesitate to go all out. One game that had many books was Baldur's Gate for PC. That's one of my favorite games. The original devs did a project here on kickstarter as well called Project Eternity that garnered quite a bit of money too.
The interactive comic book sounds like a great idea! Would be awesome to see it on the iPad :).
@Red Thread Games: Haha, sorry- kind of assumed due to the predominantly male presence in the video's so far :) But great work Rikke, and some very nice concept art on the site too!
T-shirts? Hmm... maybe if you'd consider something that can be framed and wall-mounted (and of the paper variety, seeing how you could do all that with a shirt as well...) I'd bite. But this will no doubt make many people happy!
What RJSebastian said: "Are you going to make the playthrough a permanent video to be watched?"
Yes please! I might not have time to watch the whole playthrough, but I would very much like to watch it in chunks later.
Is the game being produced in America?
wow, Im dumb that was supposed to go in the regular comment section. Too many tabs
Thank you for the update!! <3 Crow!
This may be just me but I was hoping we could play the game on any of the three OSs without having to buy another copy. I bought several games on Steam that work on Windows/Linux. I prefer Linux but sometimes I have problems with a game and I just play it on Windows.
From the comments on the Update:
" Mats-André Nykrem 13 minutes ago
Make a live play through of The Longest Journey too!!!
Creator Red Thread Games 7 minutes ago
@Mats-André Nykrem: That's something we MAY be willing to do if we reach our $2 million stretch goal, The Longest Journey Home "
Sounds like a teeny tiny hint as to what exactly TLJH is
I played dreamfall again this weekend :) But still i'm gonna watch on friday. This game is so rich with story that - when you play it again - you just get presented with forgotten stuff and then you think "how could I ever forget that" :)
Gleder meg helt sinnsykt! :)))
Is that a hint to what TLJH is? Sounds like a hint to me
That should get the ball rolling on extended pledges. Or so I've been told.
Let's hope it does!
Love the updates, keep coming back every few hours to check on pledge progress and read the newest updates/comments. Will you release details about the next stretch goals once 950K is reached?
Can a stretch goal be seeing whats under Martins hat? XD
Thanks for the updates guys!
