Update #1: First day status and add-ons

Hi all!

$400,000 in just over 24 hours. Wow. Our most optimistic projections were HALF of that. We're so happy and grateful to be closing in on 50% funded on our SECOND day. We can finally breathe again. We can finally dare hope for Dreamfall Chapters to be a thing that will happen, for reals. That's amazing.

So thank you, everyone who has pledged, and everyone who's about to pledge or thinking about pledging (DO IT). Thank you, thank you, thank you so much for your support, and let's keep this going! We're almost halfway, and we'd love to start revealing our stretch goals next week because they are going to be brilliant. Tell your families, friends, colleagues. Tell the world! Help us spread the message and let's get Dreamfall Chapters funded (and then some) so that we can make this game the best game in The Longest Journey saga so far.

We've been lucky enough to receive some great coverage in the first couple of days, and there's lots of juicy sweet information in these articles and interviews worth reading. In particular:

GameSpot's extensive, front-page preview, which also contains an exclusive (and actual, real-time, in-game) screenshot of a Northlands forest location.

(You want to go to there, do you not? I know I do. And whose house is that in the distance?)

And, of course, the most excellent Rock, Paper, Shotgun interview with the Tres Amigos, Dag Scheve, Martin Bruusgaard and Ragnar Tørnquist. It's fun, it's light, it's informative, and it's definitely worth a read. And this is only the FIRST part. Look out for part two soon.

We also received major coverage from Eurogamer, Joystiq, Polygon and a ton of other sites yesterday, too many to list here. At least a hundred different websites worldwide, and more to come. We will try and list them all on the Red Thread Games website as soon as possible.

Next week (starting Monday) we will be showing off some new content, talk more about game features and the story, and give everyone a first glimpse of one of the MAJOR new locations in Dreamfall Chapters. So stay tuned!

In the meantime, we wanted to talk about something, and that something is

Add ons

Due to both popular demand and the fact that the original text mentioned add-ons without providing any details (sorry!) we are announcing the first digital and physical add-ons today.

Pledgers have been asking us about the soundtrack CD and about adding a boxed copy of the game to an existing pledge. Starting right now, you can add the following to any physical tier ($110, and $250 and up):

  • Official audio CD soundtrack +$30
  • One additional boxed Collector's Edition copy +$90 (limited to ONE additional box per pledge)

Keep in mind that you must have already pledged a physical tier to be eligible for the above physical add-ons.

For the digital add-ons, we require a pledge of $20 and above. The digital add-ons include:

  • Additional digital downloads of the game +$25
  • Extra THREE digital downloads of the game +$65
  • Digital download of the audio book version of Journeys: Birth +$30

You can add these to your pledge by pressing the Manage Your Pledge button. Increase your pledge by the total amount you're adding. Do not change your tier, unless this is what you want. At the end of the Kickstarter campaign, you will receive a survey where you can explain how you want your add-on money distributed.

Note that all add-ons require your base pledge to be at least $20, and all physical add-ons require one of the physical tiers.

We will look at adding more add-ons going forward, so please let us know what you'd like to see, and we'll try and accommodate your wishes. We know that some of you have been asking for digital copies of The Longest Journey and Dreamfall as part of the add-ons or a new tier. Unfortunately, we don't own the rights to those games. We will, however, speak with Funcom about possibly offering some kind of deal through Kickstarter, and we'll let you know what happens with that. Until then, both games are available quite cheaply via both Steam and GOG.

Thanks again for all your support, pledges, positive comments and constructive feedback! We are overwhelmed, over the moon, ecstatic and happy that we're getting so much attention and so many pledges. Please help us keep this dream going, and regardless of what the next few weeks bring, we can guarantee you that it'll be worth the ride!

"MAAAAAPS!" I think the physical, folded, full-colour paper map would make a great add-on!.. Without it we a LOST! ;)

First I'd like to say THANK YOU!!! I cut my gaming teeth on TLJ, I'm very happy you have the passion and determination to pursue a new chapter. Physicaly owning the game is important to me, so I purchased a physical copy. I would love it if the other physical Items, ie, color manual and printed art book, ect. were available as add ons to phisical purchasers.

    3. Paul Ulrick on February 11, 2013

      T-Shirts would be a nice addition. :D

    4. Gavin Lambert - Tormented Dreamer on February 11, 2013

How about a watilla? Non-functional plushie, of course, but still.... :)

@ Danial Jason Day. Yeah, a digital walkthrough would be great. Especially if it was interactive, so you don't have to close the game to see it. There could be a wee button on screen (next to the menu button, or something), that you click on to see the walkthrough. ( :

    6. RoyMartin on February 10, 2013

Stuff I'd love: maps, coins, posters, key chains, figurines, deck of cards, phone covers. You could set up a shop on your site. Some things could be Kickstarter exclusives, and others not.

    7. Matt Donatelli on February 10, 2013

I'd love an EARLY ACCESS add-on.

    8. Leo on February 10, 2013

@RTG: Sounds great! I know you will do your best and look forward to hear what you come up with :)

    9. Red Thread Games Creator on February 10, 2013

Thanks for all your suggestions, good peoples! We're sitting down with the team to talk about this tomorrow. We don't yet know what we can offer in addition to current rewards, but we are definitely listening and we are definitely taking your suggestions, ideas and wishes under consideration!

    10. Ivan Yagolnikov on February 10, 2013

Another option - instead of signed boxed copies of first two games (would be difficult to obtain in mass quantities), how about doing signed/unsigned empty boxes with a new design? Easier plus most backers probably have old copies (I have multiple!) they can put in boxes. This also would allow you to do a uniform design for all three boxes or, perhaps, create a sleeve to fit all three.

    11. Ivan Yagolnikov on February 10, 2013

Physical rewards suggestion: signed copies of TLJ and Dreamfall boxes (assuming you can still find some around).

    12. Tanash on February 10, 2013

Being a poor sod 25$ is all I can manage at the moment, but I know it all helps and I cannot wait to play what I know will be an amazing game. I will be following the development with great interest!

Good luck in the next 27 days, you deserve the goal and sooo much more!

    13. Sammie on February 10, 2013

Alexandra Cenni: Its not financially feasible for them to print a those books (the huge tome for example) for just your pledge tier amount, sorry :(

    14. Alexandra Cenni
      on February 10, 2013

My father is pretty happy with the $110 level, that's all he wants and will be paying for. But for me I want all the print goodies--the artbook, graphic novel, novellas and the Tome of Balance. If there was a way to add those onto our tier that would be great--as far as I can tell only the $500 tier and up offers those print editions and its not financially feasible for me to pledge on a separate account that much money if I can add it to our current tier and just hand dad the extra $100 or so.

    15. Leo on February 10, 2013

@Artik: Too many add-ons would reduce the appeal and advantage of higher tiers though, so they should be limited I think

    16. Avery Campbell on February 10, 2013

      @Artik: I second that suggestion! :)

Users on Steam are requesting a graphic update to The Longest Journey just like The Secret of Monkey Island was given. It does seem to be turning gamers off and they'll need to play the original game to fully benefit from its conclusion.

    18. Markus R. Mosbech on February 10, 2013

I would love an option to get some physical rewards without actually pledging for a physical tier (still paying for shipping of course) because a t-shirt/printed book/figurine/pin/anything would be amazing, but I probably wouldn't be able to afford it on top of the $110 tier, and the physical game box isn't all that important to me (even if it is really nice).
Maybe make some of the eventual physical add-ons available by pay-pal independently of your pledge after the kickstarter is over?

For any figurine it would be pretty cool if the digital pledges had a file with the figurine model that could be 3D printed out :)

      Add-ons: +1 for a Crow figurine/toy and a CD soundtrack, please!

    21. Artik on February 10, 2013

How about making the choice of digital rewards customizable through addons?

Here's an example: I was looking at 25/50/75 tiers, but finally settled for 25, because the 50 tier doesn't include all the written material, and 75 is already quite steep for my region and I've no need for early access (or the soundtrack, before I play the game).
However, I'd gladly pay for a full book collection addon if it includes all the books of $75 tier (i.e. Journeys: Birth, Jorneys: The Graphic Novel, Tome of Balance, Art of Dreamfall).

On a side note, this also wouldn't have been a problem, if Red Thread Games, say, made a deal for distribution with Steam, and the latter would offer upgrades to digital deluxe as a DLC, but that's to many "ifs", especially in my region, where many DLCs never arrive, or arrive only as part of a full game re-release...

    22. Karol B. on February 10, 2013

I know what I want - I want that damn Wonkers! :D And plush Crow ;).

    23. Stefan Manolov on February 10, 2013

Hi! I am very interested in printed artbook addon. I am more than willing to have shipping fee on my lower digital tier in case I select physical addons.

    24. Nakano
      on February 10, 2013

@Daniel: Walkthrough would be very useful in those situations, but I am sure one will eventually popup online. In addition, it's a little difficult to close the game and read the walkthrough unless it's within the game. As a reference, Back to the Future has a very good, optional in-game hint system. Seeing something similar implemented here might be useful!

    25. Leo on February 10, 2013

Ideas for Extra rewards, besides t-shirt of course!

*Nice big signed poster featuring for example marcuria and Zoe

      *Talisman of the balance

      *journeyman mug

      *shifter pin

      *digital map of the worlds

*special digital codes that unlock a few exclusive in-game

    26. Ray Kung on February 10, 2013

Can I please ask if you can do a Mac version?

    27. Daniel J Day | Unreal World on February 9, 2013

Had a thought for a digital guide/walkthrough for the game. would prove useful i'm sure for those tricky moments.

    28. ostubash on February 9, 2013

Physicals that would be awesome (to me):
      Poster or Wallscroll
      Limited edition comic\graphic novel
Hoodie (I know you mentioned a shirt would be made. I think a limited edition hoodie would be cool.)
Figure (replica of Crow or something of the like would be awesome.)

All I can think of right now. Most of the stuff I want has already been mentioned or is already part of the rewards.

    29. mike falkingham on February 9, 2013

Thank you for the Add on of an actual CD soundtrack. I would love an add on of a physical art book! Long live physical media :)

As for physical items, I've always liked flash drives. It's something cool, but also can be useful to have around. I still love my Diablo 3 CE flash drive, even if the actual game turned out lackluster.

@Michael E @Victor Saul - Yeah I think it would be really out of character for our heroines too.

How about a medallion with the symbol of the Balance for a physical reward? Relatively flat and easy to ship :)

For digital... I'm not sure if the game is built to support them, but maybe extra skins / costumes you can choose for the playable characters?

    34. Mikejames on February 9, 2013

Additional art and map concepts may be popular, though I suppose making physical incentives is always a bigger risk than digital ones.
@Victor Saul: I don't think making erotica is what they're going for...

why dont you take an idea or two from the extras of The Witcher Series at GoG? i mean an erotic Calendar using Apryl and Zoe anyway the game has always been M rated. a music video of zoe singing maybe, a map of arcadia and stark would be nice too. i mean the tome of balance, the graphic novel, concept arts, renders thats all fine, but i miss some fanservice.

    36. Daniel J Day | Unreal World on February 9, 2013

Maybe a little statue of all 3 main characters, would look nice on the mantle haha just an idea.

    37. Red Thread Games Creator on February 9, 2013

Here's a question for you guys:

Aside from things like t-shirts, cups, mousepads -- what kind of physical AND digital goodies would you guys like to see? I can't promise that we'll be able to do everything (or even most things, or *anything*) but I'd be very interested to see what you guys feel is missing.

We've been brainstorming a lot about this, and some of it comes down to practicalities, of course, but eight thousand (and counting) heads are infinitely better than a dozen. So how about it? In a perfect world, or even an imperfect one, what would you like to see?

The physical stuff to a lot of people (us) is pretty irrelevant.

It's the story and promise of the story that matters.

(promise as an idea is kinda amusing in this circumstance though ~ it's not often faith has enough weight to shift the world)

If you are talking to CDP about GOG and Valve about steam?

Well... it would be kinda silly you limit your options really.

Real story tellers are rare on the ground

The real question is exactly what @Werner Enz asks. Will we be able to make multiple downloads (with the same, oh I don't know, account, key, whatever) in case we lose the original one for whatever reason (there can be plenty, believe me). I think it's a reasonable request and you are not really clearing that up.

I would really like an add-on for a physical version of the Tome of Balance, as this is the reward I want the most (besides the game) but 500$ is abit steep, but I would gladly pay around 50$-100$ for it.

I'm so happy for this project. Dreamfall is one of my two favorite games ever and I loved The Longest Journey. One of my favorite things was the subtle humor. It is great to see that come through in the project communication, too. Possible translation into Klingon, buying additional copies of Chapters for pets, etc. Thank you.

    48. Werner Enz on February 9, 2013

I think the real question was, if the game can only be downloaded once. Not to give it away, but to download it again, if they delete it (or move to a new PC and forget it or whatever). Kinda like Steam, where you just have to log in and you can download all your games in case you didn't back them up.
No one wants to make a illegal copy (well, at least I hope that).
