The Final Cut release date and key art

We promised you'd be the first to know, and here it is:

Dreamfall Chapters: The Final Cut arrives July 21st on Steam, GOG and the Humble Store, for PC, Mac and Linux.

We're creating brand new marketing and box art for this special edition; here's an exclusive work-in-progress preview:

The Final Cut includes all the changes and updates from the console version, including new music and audio, improved character models, shaders and lighting, revised menus and user interface, remastered voice overs, a new Dreamfall recap video and plenty of extra features. This edition also includes the final batch of in-game rewards, along with general engine enhancements and optimisations, and performance upgrades.

The game looks, plays and runs better than ever...and, of course, it's a free update for everyone who pledged and helped make Dreamfall Chapters a reality in the first place!

Dreamfall Chapters, the vanilla version, is currently 33% off on Steam (40% if you pick up the Special Edition) – and you can also buy The Longest Journey Bundle and get an incredible 58% off the sticker price. This bundle includes The Longest Journey, Dreamfall and Dreamfall Chapters, and it'd make a great gift to anyone who's yet to embark on the journey. Please spread the word – and watch out for more on The Final Cut in the very near future!

Thank you for releasing to the Humble Store at the same time as other locations. I'm hoping that patches to The Final Cut will be available on the Humble Store reasonably soon after other stores as well.

      very cool!

    3. Shanny Zutox Lix on June 28, 2017

Yay! Does this mean that we are finally going to be getting the letter, wonkers USB and the T-shirts for baking the project on kickstarter? :D I can't wait!

    4. Stephan Vandenborn on June 28, 2017

I wonder though, doesn't this conflict with the original backer tier physical boxes ? How are you going to do this ? If we get our "shifter edition", will that just be retrofitted with this final edition as well ?

    5. Nay Rolph on June 25, 2017

No news about the french voices?

    6. Philip on June 25, 2017

Great news! I've also backed this game quite heavily and am looking forward to receiving the physical edition (and have beeen waiting for it for some time). But I'm much happier with getting it late and complete, instead of receiving it on time but without the "real" content.

Quite a few things have happened and changed since the campaign (release in episodes, music contest, ...), so it's great to see that despite setbacks, the full game has been produced and will be available. I've recently followed some KS campaigns (without backing, just out of interest), and seen too many that were abandonded or had to shut down before the backers received anything. So thanks to the team for seeing this through, I'm looking forward to the final cut and the goodies!

Hi all – we've stated in several previous updates that physical rewards will arrive when we've finished and released the complete edition of the game; The Final Cut is that version! We never wanted to print a half-or-semi finished game on discs. It's taken us a while to get everything done, but we never stopped working on it, and the version we release on July 21st is the game as we envisioned it almost five years ago. Our next priority: getting the physical rewards out to our backers!

Great news! I started playing once, long ago but then got pulled away in another direction. I just finished up the last big game I was playing so this is the perfect time for me to finally get to dig in.

Dreamfall is lovely game and I enjoyed it a lot but I would like to know what is the situation with Draugen.

    10. Russell Deitch on June 24, 2017

@Edward, you should have had your name in the credits since episode 1.

    11. Russell Deitch on June 24, 2017

What about Wonkers the Wattila etc? Still no news of physical goods.

    12. burnsflipper on June 24, 2017

Can you please list all the in-game rewards and where we can find them? I don't remember what many of them were but I want to go get them. Thanks.

    13. Merrick Simms on June 24, 2017

Still no news about the french voices? It becomes ridiculous.

    14. nagi on June 24, 2017

Yeah, please do make a post about projected timeframe of the physical rewards. I mean, there is nothing else needed for that, right? Only the Final Cut and that's it?

    15. cabfe on June 24, 2017

I can understand people who want their physical items (I'm among them) but ranting about not having received their physical edition of the game is absurd.
You've already got a digital key to play the game, you didn't have to wait for the disk to come in order to play.
Also, that makes you sound like you'd preferred to have an incomplete, buggy version on disk rather than the polished final version. That makes no sense.

@RTG: what about the voice over languages? Are they all done?

    16. Stew OotG Knight/Captain Bloodcoffee on June 24, 2017

Glad its finally arriving, hopefully with backer npc's and all included. Are the consoles getting the update too?
Also if you could atleast mention the physical rewards, it would help ease some worried backers.

    17. Nicholas Derk on June 23, 2017

I still haven't received a single response tommy messages about how to get my download key. Is it really that difficult and I'm missing something?

Does this mean that the physical rewards will be shipped soon? As other people have said, I feel dissapointed. Not with the lack of physical rewards, but with the lack of communication.

I pledged over $500 because I'm a huge fan of TLJ/Dreamfall. You guys have done a great job with DFC, but goodwill is worth its weight in gold and the fans who put a lot of money in would appreciate a couple of updates. This should have been done months if not years ago but:

      1) Now that the console versions and final cut have been done, are the physical rewards ready to be sent out?

      2) If not, when is the estimated time of delivery?

Please Red Thread, this isn't a moan or a over the top complaint, I think you owe your supporters some information.

Will be replaying the game again with my friend once we get the physical copy. Also excited to have a talk with Ragnar eventually :)

So many whiners. A Kickstarter project doesn't guarantee you anything. It's NOT like going into a shop to pick up the latest hot new game. It's an investment in a development project which may or may not come to fruition. This game has been made and is more or less complete with this update (good work, RTG!) and I'm sure there will be some catching up with some of the pledge rewards in the coming months.

    21. Rivercliff on June 23, 2017

A little too late to compensate for all the delays and disappointments, not to mention the rewards that are still MIA. Frankly, after so much time has passed, I am beginning to wonder if the presumed dereliction wasn't, in fact, dishonesty.

    22. Shatners Bassoon on June 23, 2017

A VR patch would be awesome. I'm gonna vorpx it but a native version would be really nice.

    23. Edward on June 23, 2017

Second the rant about physical versions, I pledged >$550 and even four years later all I have to show for it is a lousy T-shirt!
Actually it's quite a nice t-shirt, I wore it just this week and someone asked me all about it, and I explained what it was and said that I was even supposed to be getting my name in the credits and everything..

Seriously though, well done to the team and all that, great effort, some great reviews, and I'm sure it's a great game, and I have it on Steam and on GOG, and I've listened to the soundtrack, and looked at the PDF of the art book, and downloaded the wallpapers, but I've been a bit distracted by other things and haven't actually played any of it yet, and I stopped following the forums and so on.

Just waiting for that nice shiny box with all those juicy extras like the storybook. Pretty please?

    24. Rebecca on June 23, 2017

I was so loyal to this project and honestly, it's starting to disappear. I pledged a lot of money to this project when it was listed and have been understanding about basically every change this game has had. But I, frankly, want what I paid for. I would have just pledge less and played the game as it came out if I would have know that everyone and their brother was going to get a version before any of the pledger goes their physical version.

This is getting disheartening and the lack of updates isn't helping. Like, serious, come the hell on guys. It's not really that understandable anymore; rather it's growing ridiculous.
