Dreamfall Chapters arrives on consoles

This Friday, May 5, Dreamfall Chapters finally lands on PlayStation 4 and Xbox One.

We've been working on the console versions since last August, and we've made a lot of changes – but more on that in a couple of weeks, because that's not all: we're also working on The Final Cut for PC/Mac/Linux, which will be released as a free update to backers (and anyone who's bought the game on Steam, GOG or the Humble Store) "soon". It will have all the changes from the console versions, including improved character models, audio and music – and more. So stay tuned for that!

To prepare players for Friday's big release – a refresher for those who have played the previous games; a primer for those who haven't – we've made a video recap of Dreamfall: The Longest Journey.

Watch the recap video here!

We've said it before and we'll say it again: we couldn't have done any of this without you. We're nearing the end of the journey, and it's amazing to look back and see how far we've come. We hope we can provide a fitting end to the journey with the upcoming Final Cut and all the Kickstarter rewards.

We'll be back with more details later in May. Until then, thanks for reading and thanks for your continued support!

ok so i agree we should be getting more frequent updates and its wrong for them to be so silent.
but on frequent post in these comments is getting on my nervers.
its the whole "consoles got the earlier release than the backer edition" that keeps poping up.
no this is un true we had our dlc versions months befor the console release.
with the fact that our physical versions come with a ton of things these console versions dont have you should have known from the day you backed the physical version would get to you after the retail version was on shelves. its just common sence.

our version of the game is enhanced in a way the console version is not.
we were given the dlc versions for this reason so that we could play it long befor the phisical one was made.
if you chose not to play it that is your fult not thiers.

again attack them on the things they are doing wrong like not keeping us updated on progress and how long we should expet it to take.

Skeptical I will ever receive my Wonkers USB with all my stuff on it.... four years, so far....

I'm eagerly awaiting all the books, the cloth map and the physical copy of the game. Its been a long wait. It really sucks that the consoles got the earlier release than the backer edition.

    5. Tore Hoyland on

Shameful that the console versions gets a earlier release, than the backer edition.
I had known this four years ago, I would not have supported this project.

Congrats RTG! This is exciting certainly. I've been following since the TLJ days. :-)

What's on the horizon for your team?

+1 Please, have you any news about the french voices promised during the kickstarter project?

I bought the boxed version for this game & haven't touched the key version as I was waiting for it to be finished. Unfortunately, my computer died in that wait. I have no way of replacing it. I have a PS4, so I am glad to see this announcement, as I have no way of playing what I originally paid for.

I still haven't heard anything about my change to a GOG-key?

      Great news!

Forgive me if I'm mistaken, but aren't we still waiting for a bunch of pledge rewards too? I never got my postcard for example. Wasn't there supposed to be an audio book and an in-game library? (Perhaps the library is there, I didn't finish the game yet as I'm waiting for the Xbox One version to come out.)

Here's to hoping that The Longest Journey Home is the next project! Would be amazing. :)

Matt & Brice: The boxes will contain The Final Cut version of the game. We'll get back to expected shipping schedule in the next update!

    14. Matt Combes on

Yes, any news on the boxed editions? I assume they will be pressed with the Final Cut version, but when might we expect to see them ship? Within the next month, hopefully?

    15. TrentJaspar on

The Humble DRM-free version is still from July 2016, not Version 5.4 on Steam. Will this version be updated to The Final Cut or has Humble been abandoned?

    16. Brice on

What about the boxed collector's editions ? When can we expect to get them ? Thank You

    17. Steve Rioux on

      good job guys!
Is there any way for me to change my initial pledge from a boxed PC version to a boxed PS4 version?

    18. Luis Arcas on

The consolé Game is in spanish?

I'm really looking forward to the Final Cut version of the game. I had to stop playing for a while (my computer died) and decided to hold off restarting until the Final Cut came out, so very glad it's now top of the priority list!

Oh! Will I be able to purchase the PS4 version through Amazon or GameStop? Admittedly half the reason we bought a PS4 so early on is to play the game on the much larger screen. Thank you!

@Koala, have you installed GoG Galaxy? It makes updating just as painless as Steam.

Will console versions see a physical release in North America? I'm looking to buy a PS4 disc of this game later this week, but have been unable to find a place to pre-order...

    23. Umberto Alicea on

Love the PC version, looking forward to seeing this on the Nintendo Switch! It's a game changer. Please consider it if possible. Maybe kick start a campaign or something to port it, I'd support it. :-)

    24. Matthew Yeager on

Did you guys restore the parts you took out of the Dreamtime? My second playthrough stalled when I realized that two thirds of the interactive elements were stripped out of that part. I loved the long hallway thing, but I also loved the two removed scenes. I know it is too late to make that change now if you haven't, but I just want to have my cake and eat it too, is that too much to ask?

    25. Roy Sieh - Dream Traveler on

Congrats, really looking forward to the Final Cut! (Any chance it will support ultrawide resolutions natively)?

      @Mohamed: THANK YOU!!!

    27. Red Thread Games Creator on

@Kevin: We don't expect to make a Nintendo Switch version – at least not in the foreseeable future.

    28. Mohamed Al Turkistani on

I'm really excited to see all the changes first-hand! I love everything you guys have done so far.

    29. Red Thread Games Creator on

@Koala: We'll look into it ASAP. You should have received multiple emails about how to redeem your rewards, but we'll make sure you get yours!

I really appreciate everything that's been done for this game, but I never received a Steam key (got GOG but it's harder to update). Could someone please PM me a key?
