Two months later

Three years. Five episodes. Tens of thousands of hours of work. It’s been wild. It’s been exhausting. It’s been an unforgettable experience. We’re both relieved and sad that the journey is finally over.

Except, it’s not over. Not quite. Not yet.

Four Red Threaders are still working on Dreamfall Chapters, along with a freelance artist and some other talented people. We can’t disclose what they’re up to…but we’re not done.

(Incidentally, #TFC is an underrated Pink Floyd album.)

We’re going to carry on with regular Kickstarter updates until we’ve shipped all the rewards (more on that in the next few weeks) and released everything we’re ever going to release, and probably also for a while after that. We don’t want our hugely supportive and lovely community to fade away. (And if you haven't joined yet, our forums are thriving!)

Since we haven’t sent out an update since the release of REDUX back in June, we wanted to take some time to address a few of your most-asked questions.

Game keys! By now everyone should have received their keys, though we do get the occasional email from backers who, for various reasons, have missed out on the updates. So: if you don’t have access to the game yet, please visit BackerKit and follow the instructions to redeem your digital rewards. (And if that doesn’t work, please visit our support forum for help, or email

Most, not all, of the in-game rewards have been fulfilled. We’re working on a patch that includes the Benefactors of Marcuria and missing Birthright characters, along with fixes and tweaks to the audio (and some other titbits). The estimated due-date for this patch is early October, and we'll send out another update when it's ready.

The German voice-overs are in production! It’s taken longer than expected, but our localisation partners and studio have been backlogged, and there’s a lot of dialogue to record. We don’t have a release date yet, but when we receive the dubbed files, we’ll make a (very big) patch.

A lot of the emails we get from backers are about physical rewards — and, yes, we are working on them. The boxes won’t ship until we have the final version of the game ready: we want the version pressed to a disc to be a keeper, not a patcher-upper. But we’ll make sure the boxes (and other goodies) are worth the wait, and we'll have a preview soon.

The missing digital rewards are coming along, slowly but surely. The game was our number one priority before the summer holidays (and for a couple of years before that); now we’re finally able to also prioritise not-game things — like the short stories and graphic novel. We’ll share more when we have more to share.

Lastly, we get a TON of questions about the PlayStation 4 version of the game. All we can say right now is “no, it definitely has not been cancelled and oh boy we can’t wait to talk about it”. In other words, we’ll have more news when the time is right (and these news will be exciting news, we promise, but we really can't say much more today).

So no, this journey isn’t over yet, not quite. Not yet.

In the meantime, stay tuned to our Facebook and Twitter channels, post your questions and comments here or on the forum, and don’t hesitate to email us at if you have questions or feedback.

So... I understand that the update states that you will share more when there is more to be shared, but does that mean there is no progress when it comes to the short stories etc? I don't mean to be a pain in the behind, but I was looking forward to reading them alongside the game, and in fact, I am yet to get started on the game. I really want to get started, though :-)

Any news on the German dubbing?

BTW: While I understand that you didn't let the rest of the world wait and released without localization being finished, it would have been nice if you communicated more openly about that. One had to literally dig deep in the forums to find out about the state of German dubbing and the statement above (two months after the "final" release) was actually the first official statement.

As much as I'm excited to get my physical rewards, I'd much rather they be delayed until the game is 100% the best it can be. Keep up the good work!

"Would it be possible to choose the PS4 version for the Boxed Collector's Edition pledge tier? I know we already got Steam keys and all, but my gaming PC isn't quite on the up and up and does suffer from lower framerates."

+1, same problem here: The first version was playable, but with Redux, it's too slow and suffers a lot of slowdons... :-((

Waiting for PS4 version, I hope that version will have good performance unlike my macbook.

      OMG! So excited!!! :)

I'd also like to chime in and ask for an updated version of the The Longest Journey and Longest Journey Home. New Kickstarter? :D

I reckon Saucerful of Secrets is underrated.

Please replace "you're" with "you" in my previous post :P

      Dear RTG!

If you're allready have other projects in the works, please consider this:

      The Longest Journey: Remastered Edition

What I'm thinking is the most crucial to "fix" in this edition would be high resolution 3D models and updated animation.

That would be awesome! I know so many people that won't play the original because it's so old and graphically outdated. That's such a shame when the story is vital to fully understand everything that happens in the later games.

I'm curious also about the alternative costumes in-game. Are those being worked on?

We want a voice! But at least a good subtitles!

Great news! Waiting patiently for next update on what the Four Red Threaders are working on. I'm guessing it's not a live action series like what's happening with Life Is Strange. :D Also, Syberia 3 is coming Dec 1st! Need more story-type games.

All I was in more of April, and the Longest Journey Home. A book, maybe? Missing her.

    16. Merrick Simms on

OK seriously, what about the french voices? You promised it release after the release of the final book!

You could at least speak of it a little, by just saying you have not forget it.

    17. Matt Combes on

Looking forward to the box edition when you get it out. I haven't played any of Chapters yet as I own a 2011 Mac Mini and I imagine it's not very up to spec in terms of performance to run it. Fortunately I plan on buying a new Macbook Pro when they come out this fall and can't wait to binge all 5 episodes then!

      Oh excellent,

Among the rewards, had I completely missed it - but the behind the scenes and making of videos?

    19. Mobus Gochfulshigan Dorphin on

No! You're wrong! The Final Cut was a mediocre album at best and is rightfully rated the way it is.

#unpopularopinions I didn't think The Wall was that great either. It had some very high points but the album taken as a whole it was only okay.

By the way, I cannot stress enough just how good DFC was and how much I enjoyed it. I'm gflad I went back and watched an LP of the original TLJ as well (don't worry I bought the game legitimately too!) so I was able to catch all the references going back to the original. I felt the ending tied up all those loose threads in such a perfect, satisfying way. I say that with DFC you've gone and wrote the book on good storytelling and how it's done. I am so glad to have helped back this project.

I`m playing Chapters now and what a great game it is! Thank you Red Thread and hopefully we`ll see many more adventure games in the future made by your talented team :)

Hello friends. I am posting here as a desperate last resort, as I backed this from early on and now cannot finish book 5 due to a consistent crash. I've asked for help in the steam forums and in your support e-mail and received no response in either of them. What can I do to get some help in order to finish this technical mess of a game?

    22. Sam Keshavarz on

I have a feeling the PS4 edition will have some neat additions that will benefit the PC gamers too. Just a hunch. ;)
