About this project
Never Sleep Again: The Elm Street Legacy--The Making of Wes Craven's "A Nightmare on Elm Street" is the ultimate look at the scary, thrilling and groundbreaking 1984 film.
Through personal relationships and incredible access to many of the film's cast and crew, the ultimate story of how the movie was conceived, created and released will truly come to life.
Exclusive interviews with dozens of people who brought Elm Street to life (writer/director, producers, cast, cinematographer, effects artists, designers, stunt people and more), and combining hundreds of materials, including rare, never-before-seen photographs, storyboards, conceptual drawings, publicity materials, archival documents and more will complete this cleverly-crafted, comprehensive chronicle.
This one-of-a-kind, exhaustive look back will appeal to fans of:
A Nightmare on Elm Street
Readers will find everything they ever dreamed of as they enter the behind-the-scenes world of the original A Nightmare on Elm Street like never before.
The book will be hardcover, over two hundred pages and include both color and black-and-white photos and materials. It will be printed on high-quality, semi-gloss paper. It is an oversize (approximately 9.5" x 12") coffee table book.
Physical production of the books is being handled by Toppan, an award-winning leader in printing with decades of experience. One of the thousands of titles they produced was author Peter Bracke's incredible Crystal Lake Memories: The Complete History of Friday the 13th.
The cover of the book is a fantastic, original, exclusive painting created by artist Nathan Milliner.
Material and chapters of the book include:
A foreword by Wes Craven
Wes Craven's career
The beginning of New Line Cinema
The pre-production, production, release and legacy of the film
An afterword by Heather Langenkamp
Below are sample pages and spreads. Enjoy!
The book has been written, and we're now finalizing the layout. If funding is successful, the book will go into physical production in late May. Our goal is to begin shipping orders and rewards in November 2014 on or around the film's 30th anniversary.
Meet the creative team behind the book:
Thommy Hutson (author) wrote and/or produced the definitive documentaries on Elm Street, Friday the 13th, Scream and Return of the Living Dead. He is thrilled to have been able to tell the definitive story of the making of Craven's classic in a way that has never before been done...nor will ever be done again! Years of research, writing, designing and crafting have gone into this project, and he cannot wait to let it loose upon fans everywhere!
Lito Velasco (editor) has collaborated with Hutson on the Elm Street, Scream and Return of the Living Dead documentaries in multiple capacities. An ardent fan and supporter of all things Elm Street, he has worked tirelessly to help make this book a reality.
Peter Bracke (design and layout) is an accomplished journalist and the man behind the incredibly creative and wildly successful book, Crystal Lake Memories: The Complete History of Friday the 13th. His design aesthetic is top-notch and brings an amazing, distinct look to this project.
Nathan Thomas Milliner (cover artist) is an incredibly accomplished graphic artist, writer and filmmaker. He was recently tapped by Shout! Factory to be the premiere artist for their sister label, Scream! Factory, and has created multiple covers for their special edition Blu-ray releases.
Heather Langenkamp (project supporter) is the star of A Nightmare on Elm Street, Dream Warriors and Wes Craven's New Nightmare, among other film and television projects. She also contributed an Afterword to the book.
Never Sleep Again: The Elm Street Legacy--The Making of Wes Craven's "A Nightmare on Elm Street" is the definitive account of the film that began what many have called the best, most frightening and imaginative horror franchise in motion picture history.
As with all the projects and documentaries with which we've been involved, it's the fans who truly make them a reality. That's why we created the book and are bringing it directly to you: to ensure it's the most thorough, in-depth, unfettered presentation of the story behind the film. Your pledge will bring this book to life and save it from becoming lost in Freddy's nightmares!
The only way for this all-encompassing "making of" book to see the light of day is if fans like you pledge to get their copy through this campaign. If we fall short of our goal, all the incredible stories, photos, materials and lore associated with A Nightmare on Elm Street will remain trapped in the boiler room.
Only you can make it happen!

Risks and challenges
The biggest challenge is a successful campaign: without financial backing from the people interested in this book--fans of Elm Street, Wes Craven, New Line Cinema and behind-the-scenes storytelling--this labor of love will not become a reality.
Another consideration is the logistics and time necessary to physically print the book and fulfill orders. We've made arrangements to print overseas with a reputable printing house known for its quality. The time it takes for us to receive the books from overseas can be several months, and there could be unexpected delays in customs. These potential issues have been taken into account in the projected timeline as much as possible.
To help the publication and delivery go smoothly, we have a fantastic team of people behind the book working diligently to get everything out on time. Currently, orders and rewards are expected to ship in November 2014, on or around the film's 30th anniversary.
We are hoping that fans of the film--and fans of moviemaking--are as excited to own the book as we have been creating it!
