It Started With A Dream...
Ever had a dream that was so vivid you wanted to capture the moment? I did, years ago. It was a guitar I had never seen. So I did a quick painting.
It was fortunate I was working in a guitar factory, and made a "prototype" shortly after the painting. It was an Odyssey body/neck blank with a fibreglass top.
In the mid'80's Larrivee Guitars produced my designs, offering them as Scorpions and later Larrivee's. Then came Unplugged and electrics were out.
The guitar above is the Guitar Player UPC code graphic, and was a in-music-store promotional prize. I ended up buying it back through very fortunate circumstances many years later. It inspired me......
...I hand-built a prototype. No outside influence, no preconceived notions. The result is art as much it is a professional instrument..
Once completed, I thought the Big Guitar Companies would love to offer their customers something "new".
Big Old Guitar Companies Don't Like New
We understand why Big companies don't like "new". It cost $$$ to put into production. But can you imagine 'say, the car or fashion industry offering us the same designs every year for the past 60+? Pretty boring.
We pitched it to Gi*b**n. Fe*d*r. PR Sm*th,ES*, BC R*ch, Pe*v*y, Go*d*n, Iban*z, you name it, we tried. The end result was the same "Very cool, but "it" is not what we do. Good luck".
Obviously "its" not what they do but what was "it" they were so busy doing? Any store or web search will lead to some sort of copy of a L*s Pa*l or Str*t by almost every company. And at all price points from disposable impulse buy to requiring a mortgage.
We don't like expensive guitars at RedRock. We like quality tools musicians can evolve with. Thanks Big Guitar Companies for the "pass", "good luck" and for not burying our designs.

The Production Plan & Fulfillment:
We have a quality South Korean manufacture lined up. It is one of the top producers of OEM electric guitars in the world. The bodies/necks/finish are done over there, then shipped here for assembly/setup.
Once we receive the finished bodies and necks we install locking tuners, locking strap pins, Wilkinson Wrap Bridges and DiMarzio pickups, shielded hard-wired CTS & Switchcraft electronics set-up. Guitars are set neck with a unique RedRock Slik-Lok headstock. We use only premium grade woods and components. The guitars offered as rewards are Standard models with a solid custom colour finish, standard inlays. The projected MSRP of the Model 1Standard is $1295.00. But we compare that with other brands much more expensive models.
With this project, we will be using the funds to finance an initial order of Limited Edition Standard and Custom instruments, as well all other investor rewards. Completed inventory will first be distributed as Kickstatrer Investor Rewards. Remaining stock will be used to promote the RedRock Guitar brand and begin marketing.
Our next big milestone is to display at a major musical instrument trade-show in January 2015.
Our next Kickstarter RedRock model launch is 2 "Punk" series guitars. Punk is stripped down, bare necessities to make quality music. Guitars with attitude. They are offered with this project as a lower entry price backer rewards here to show and get reaction. We have them made to our specs and represents a great value. Here's 2 pics:
The "W" is a bolt on with different body wood options. It was a very natural, comfortable balance when playing. Just to be clear, the Punk Model C and Model W Investor Reward is Tung-Oiled satin finish, not gloss red like this painted model.
"C" is a crazy, light neck-thru-body workhorse thats easy to gig.
Update: New Investor Reward:
We appreciate your interest and support.
RedRock M1 Campaign:
July 18-August 16th: Promote Kickstarter "Model 1" campaign.
...once we have secured the funding from Kickstarter. We will...
- Week 1: Submit build sheet to manufacturer. Place deposit. Place product construction/shipping funds in escrow, order instruments.
- Week 2: Order all parts direct from manufacturer/distributor.
- Week 3: Product should be completed and en-route via surface shipping. Expect 4-5 weeks. Its slow but very cost effective at this stage of growth.
- Week 7-8: Arrange brokerage, accept delivery. Inspect goods, communicate with manufacturer, release escrow funds to manufacturer.
- Week 9-10: Assemble instruments, prepare reward investors guitars for delivery by tracked, insured service.
Your Support is Essential:
At RedRock we don't copy and have many original designs and concepts. Sure, the Model 1 is on the flashy side. Start with sizzle. With a successful KS launch of the M1 we will be able to offer other new designs, ideas and Instruments to enable the musician to become the artist they aspire to be. Our vision is to foster like-minded talented individuals to build a "new" guitar company. Our minimum order for this project is 24 instruments. Whether we sell 24 or 24,000, our philosophy will never change: Original designs for original artists. Together we can all contribute to change the market. And have fun doing it. Thanks for your support.
Risks and challenges
As an entrepreneur, I accept the outcome of anything can be failure. That way I also open the door to accept the possibility of complete success.
In terms of true risk, we are having the instruments body/neck/finish produced offshore. The order will be secured in escrow and the manufacture will not receive full payment until all goods have been accepted and approved by us. We are using a reputable builder and are satisfied with the final product. All brand name parts will be bought direct and assembled, set up in Canada.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
