The RecTeeFier is a revolutionary golf tee designed to assist golfers with THEIR goal of rectifying their slice/hook. OUR goal is to bring more fun and less frustration to golfers like us.
As mentioned in our video, we enjoy the game of golf but investing time and money at the driving range with private lessons was just not for us. We would rather enjoy the course and “have a ball” with our friends. Our market surveys indicated that many more shared the same vision.
The Slice/Hook Phenomenon
Upon starting this project we learned that the Magnus Force generated by the ball side spinning is responsible for our golf ball veering off course. The same principle is used by baseball pitchers to induce a curved trajectory to their ball as explained on this YouTube video (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oph9BP4lKjs).
We wondered whether we could somehow “redirect” the forces applied to our golf ball. This RecTeeFier hypothesis came to us while watching the video of an airplane landing gear making contact with the runway (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fSodzuCwRYI).
Technology to the rescue
The first prototypes were 3D printed then tested at a virtual golf range. We needed to determine the optimum tee configuration that would reduce side spinning without affecting carry distance. In the end, we came up with the configuration displayed below (4 views of the same prototype).
Friction-to-Compression ratio of the head material is essential to the RecTeeFier effect, so we chose to test a few elastomers that were proposed by the same specialists.
The prototypes v2.0 were then manufactured to be tested under real conditions.
The golf swing is a complex movement involving the whole body, so it is safe to say that even the best golfer cannot reproduce the same swing twice. In order to confirm beyond any doubt the RecTeeFier effect on a golf ball, we needed a Super Golfer.
We contacted Golf Laboratories, an independent golf equipment testing firm located in San Diego, California. They developed a robotic arm that can reproduce the same swing over and over. They also use a Trackman doppler radar to gather data from the moment the swing is initiated until the golf ball hits the ground.
With their help, we prepared a DOE (Design Of Experiment) and scheduled four days of testing.
Upon returning from San Diego, a multiple factor analysis was conducted on the data by an engineer. It confirmed what we had seen, which was a reduction (35%) of the slice/hook when the RecTeeFier was used as compared to a regular tee.
The RecTeeFier Effect
Energy is redirected in the horizontal axis and, as a result, side spin is reduced while backspin is slightly increased.
Intellectual Property Protection
Following confirmation that the RecTeeFier could help golfers with their slice/hook, we decided to fully protect our invention. The name “RECTEEFIER” has been registered as a trademark, the industrial design is also registered against forfeiture, and the invention itself is patent pending.
Mass production is the next step, and this is where we need your support. We invested time and money in proving the concept. Your help is now required to bring the RecTeeFier to reality. Your commitment also represents the ultimate confirmation that our surveys were conducted diligently.
CA$ 15,000 is all we need to finance a custom made mold to mass produce this revolutionary tee. The manufacturer is waiting for a PO# (Purchase Order) from us before initiating work on the mold, which will take 10 weeks to complete.
