About this project
We want to make a book called This Will Ruin Everything that features more than 40 Recoat projects and 100s of beautiful photos of world class art as part of our 10th anniversary celebrations. The lovingly designed 192-page hard back will be strictly limited to 750 copies. Created by the talented Design by Zag on beautiful GF Smith paper, it will be page after page of art, murals, design and exhibitions from European tours to community workshops. You can support the project by pre-ordering it at a reduced price and getting it before anyone else or buying one of our special Recoat rewards.
To celebrate our 10th anniversary, we’re curating an exhibition called, This Will Ruin Everything at the Lighthouse in Glasgow with 40 artists and designers that opens on 14th July 2017. Alongside that, we want to make this book with the same title that archives our first decade and champions the artists we work with. We want to share their work with you.
Why we need your help
We need your help to make the book. In a time when everything is digital and un-tangible, we want to create a physical record you can hold in your hands of 10 years hard work and beautiful art. Your support will help us showcase Scottish talent alongside inspirational work from International artists. We also hope it is a way for us to make owning these works more affordable and accessible. We’re so proud of Recoat and the potential of this book, we really hope you can help us make it happen and support This Will Ruin Everything.
Contents of the book
This Will Ruin Everything brings together more than 40 projects with 100s of images of art from world class artists like Moneyless, 44 Flavours, Insa, Inkie, Florence Blanchard, Elph, Kirsty Whiten, Fraser Gray, Good Wives and Warriors and Kirsty Whiten. Projects include In Common, SFRM, and Forms and Spaces and work with Ostreet, National Theatre of Scotland and Amnesty International.
Our book is mainly a collection of lovely photographs. There is also some (very) short texts; an introduction about Recoat, our 2017 Manifesto, the explanation of the project’s title and descriptions of each of the projects and who was involved. If you buy the book, your name will be in our thank you pages too.
If you help us by supporting the creation of the book, your name will feature in the thank you pages. Below you will find images of the rewards on offer. To support the project find the rewards in the bar on the right and select your reward there. Everything from a book upwards gets a book!

In July we'll be hanging our 10th anniversary exhibition at the Lighthouse and painting them their first ever mural! For £190 you can help us paint it for the day; learn new skills, hang with us and you might even get a sneak peak of the show.
For £410 you can have a personalised, abstract Recoat canvas. You pick the colours and theme. For £850 you can have 3 pieces that work as a set.
If you want us to paint an object, vehicle or building that you own and for you to help us paint it, this reward is for you. For £999 we'll paint almost anything!
For £1499 we'll come to you and paint a commissioned mural inside your home or workplace.
For our most generous backer we will paint a large exterior mural on your home or workplace. For £3000 you can commission us to paint something pretty massive.
Risks and challenges
Everything is in place to make this book happen. We feel really confident that when we hit our target, due to your support, the book will be printed and ready to be delivered to you in July.
All of our images are collected and ready for print. We are working with talented and experienced Graphic Designers, Design By Zag (@designbyzag) who are laying out and designing the book right now, it is nearly complete. We have secured sponsorship from the talented GF Smith who are delivering the paper stock. We have contracted established, professional book makers who have given us a 3 week turn around on the book printing and assembly. We have realistic deadlines for the creation of the book and the delivery of your rewards.
With so many different people playing their part, of course there is always a risk that one part of the process is slowed by issues out-with our control. If we were to face such issues we feel our 10 years of project management experience will help us solve these problems quickly and we will keep you up to date with any changes or issues.
As you will have read above, we are also curating a 10 year anniversary exhibition at The Lighthouse in Glasgow in July. We have lots going on! This will not affect the production of the book but might at times affect our ability to communicate with you as quickly as we would like after the Kickstarter. We appreciate your patience if this does impact you.
Our main concern is that if we don’t hit our target, and we can’t print the book, so please do back us!Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
