The Short Version
Welcome to the Slumbering Oblivion Kickstarter! The intent of this Kickstarter is to raise funds to fully realize a new line of highly detailed Lovecraft inspired gaming miniatures. The introductory miniatures are a group of 5 Elite Deep Ones and once they get funded there are many other creatures that can also be made a reality as part of this Kickstarter. The miniatures planned are a mix of both creatures mentioned in the works of HP Lovecraft and also many original concepts inspired by his works.
The miniatures vary in size but are scaled for 32mm, are made of resin and come unpainted and unassembled. These miniatures are part of a developing science fiction and horror miniatures based tabletop war game called Slumbering Oblivion. As such, many will have futuristic weapons but since some backers may want to use these as proxies in other games, most also come with alternate low tech weapons. These are included with each miniature so you can equip them as you see fit. Nothing additional to buy to make them one way or the other.
Pledge levels and their descriptions show what is included or what you can choose from for your pledge. If you want to add more miniatures to your base pledge just scroll down to the Add-On section at the bottom and include the price for each miniature listed to your base pledge amount.
I'm no pro-painter by any stretch of the imagination but here is a Murguba I put some color on and thought came out pretty well.

Pledge Map and Goals
The above is the first collection of miniatures I am planning to make available for this Kickstarter. These are all miniatures that have completed the sculpting and molding phases and are ready for production. Should we reach the end of this collection rest assured there are many more miniatures to unlock. But, let's not get ahead of ourselves. Let's get through these and if we do that and need more....well, we'll cross that bridge when we get to it.
Here are the next miniatures to be unlocked as we move towards full funding and beyond. If you want them go ahead and add them to your pledge, even if they are not unlocked yet. Adding now will get us closer to making them available so you don't need to wait until we reach the actual goal to add them to your pledge. Just add the amount shown in blue or yellow to your pledge.

Here's a picture of the miniatures I have painted on a piece of custom city block scenery, which is the type of location many of these battles will take place.
The battlefields of Slumbering Oblivion used to be our streets, malls, cities, parks and homes. How cool would it be to make up a battlefield of your neighborhood or the block where your favorite coffee shop used to be? In the future they are all in ruins and overrun with the spawn of Cthulhu.
The Long Version
What is Slumbering Oblivion? In its current form, Slumbering Oblivion is a new line of miniatures influenced by the works of HP Lovecraft and his Cthulhu mythos. The future will be a fully realized tabletop war game where you can pit the minions of Cthulhu against the advanced warriors of humanity fighting for the survival of Earth and mankind.
The general premise of Slumbering Oblivion is that late in the 21st century mankind's search of the oceans for wealth led to the accidental discovery of R'lyeh. This caused the denizens of that, and other underwater cities, to burst forth and wage war on humanity. The timeline of the game itself takes place about 100 years after this, where Earth is a battlefield locked in a perpetual clouded darkness. The remainder of mankind is either barricaded in cities deep inland or on crowded lunar colonies.
For the first time in history, mankind is united as one. Ironically, it was not peace that what unify mankind but war. This unification of purpose and science has led to tremendous leaps in technology to fight against the forces of Cthulhu. However, this may have come too late. For while Cthulhu still sleeps, his forces fight with advanced technology, psychic abilities and even tooth, claw and tentacle. And should he awaken, any remaining hope will be lost.
So that is the super condensed premise of Slumbering Oblivion. But, first things first, in order to realize this larger vision there needs to be enough interest in the idea and that is the reason for this Kickstarter.
My name is James and I am the founder of a new company, Reclusive Phoenix Entertainment. I’m a hobbyist and gamer of almost 30 years but have always leaned more towards the hobby aspect of war gaming. I enjoy the collecting and painting of miniatures, and am particularly fond of science fiction based miniatures and games. My old alias on Kickstarter and YouTube was Warchild40k which should give you some idea of which scifi game in particular I enjoy. One of the other things I enjoy is reading and have always found the works of HP Lovecraft to be fascinating. It is the combining of these two interests that brought about the idea of Slumbering Oblivion.
It started around 6 or more years ago, while re-reading HP Lovecraft’s “At the Mountains of Madness”, when a couple sentences stood out and created the seed that became Slumbering Oblivion. The sentences I refer to come when Dr. William Dyer and Danforth are exploring the vast city they discovered in Antarctica. They are looking over murals that depict the distant past of the inhabitants of that city Dyer calls the Old Ones, also known as Elder Things. He says,
“They had lived under the sea a good deal, building fantastic cities and fighting terrific battles with nameless adversaries by means of intricate devices employing unknown principles of energy.”
Then a few sentences later,
“Some of the sculptures suggested that they had passed through a stage of mechanised life on other planets…”
“The Old Ones had used curious weapons of molecular disturbance against the rebel entities, and in the end had achieved a complete victory.”
This clearly shows that the Elder Things had advanced technology and their enemies must have as well, including the Star Spawn and Cthulhu. Most games dealing with the Cthulhu Mythos take place in the early 1900’s and do not address any obvious advanced technology. The advanced technology is an aspect that I’ve personally not seen explored in a Cthulhu themed tabletop miniatures game either. So I set out to bridge the gap between the sci-fi tabletop war games I enjoy, and the horror of the Cthulhu Mythos.
I’ve spent the last 6+ years working on the idea in my spare time and collaborating with skilled artists such as Roberto Chaudon (sculptor), Danny Cruz (concept artist), Rob and Tim over at Mierce Miniatures (casting) and a few others. Now I am at a point where I would like release some of what I have developed and discover if others find this mix of sci-fi and horror as interesting as I do.
The next step in this journey is the new line of Cthulhu inspired miniatures you will find in this Kickstarter. Then, with enough interest, I will branch out to the human army miniatures, finalized rule set and also books and possibly some additional media to further flesh out the rich background and world of Slumbering Oblivion. Currently, I have close to 60 different miniatures in various stages of completion ranging from concept art, sculpted, molded and even all the way up to ready for production. And this is where you enter the picture. Are you looking for some cool high quality miniatures to collect or paint? Do you enjoy bizarre creatures? Are you interested in helping bring to life a game that blends high tech and horror? If the answer is yes to any of those questions then please pledge! Help me fully realize this vision and join me on my journey into the madness of war against Cthulhu’s host.
As noted in the pledge levels, shipping is not included. I have seen too many Kickstarters under anticipate how much shipping would cost and have lost money or even gone back to backers to ask for additional funds. That is something I want to avoid and therefore shipping will be charged when items are ready to ship for whatever the going rate is at the time. Once items are ready backers will be contacted with the shipping costs. You will also have the option to split shipping if you want to receive items that are ready sooner rather than wait for everything to be ready for one shipment. Please check the FAQ for the latest updates on anticipated shipping costs.
UK/EU - shipping will be from the UK
US/ROW - shipping will be from the US
Risks and challenges
The primary risks would be a loss or change of an artist or vendor I currently use. However, this is quite low as the artists and casters I use are all established and I've worked with most for 5+ years and have a great relationship with them. Should the worst happen though, I do have backup contacts I could use if it becomes necessary.
Another risk is to the timing of delivery. The level of this risk will vary depending on the success achieved by this Kickstarter and how many miniatures will need to be made. In order to create realistic expectations I have created 3 primary collections.
Collection A - These are all figures that have already been sculpted, molded and are ready for production. Timing will depend on the number of miniatures ordered but unless this Kickstarter goes mental I would expect these to ship near the end of 2018.
Collection B - These are miniatures that have been sculpted but not yet molded. These will take longer as they need to be shipped to the casting company and molded before production can begin. Models in this category I expect to be ready by first quarter 2019.
Collection C - These are miniatures that are only in concept art form and will need to be sculpted and then be molded and cast. Sculpting this many miniatures will take quite some time so I anticipate these miniatures to be ready and shipping by the end of 2019.
Keep in mind these are estimates and I intentionally am padding/adding time to them. I've backed many Kickstarters and, like many others, have fallen victim to the projects that clearly under anticipated shipping times and continually revise them. My personal philosophy is to under promise and over deliver. I would much rather tell you something is shipping next year and surprise you several months early than the other way around!
While I've backed many projects and assisted several creators on their projects, the reality is that this is my first Kickstarter and I would be remiss if I didn't point that out. Truth is that I don't know what I don't know. While I feel that I've covered all my bases their may be something I haven't considered which could impact the project or timelines. If anything does come up then I will be sure to inform everyone as I aim to be as transparent as possible and keep everyone up-to-date. I feel this risk is slim but nevertheless it needs to be stated.
The stars align, Cthulhu wakes and dominates the world. In this case I will likely be quite mad, curled up fetal and unable to speak without screaming...so you're on your own and all bets are off.
