About

Reason, a progressive metal band, first formed in 2007 as Obsequy, changing the name in 2011. In 2009, they released an EP called Thoughtcrime.

Inspired by filmmaking books written by Lloyd Kaufman, lead guitarist/vocalist Alex Fidel wrote a song for express use in the upcoming and much anticipated Toxic Avenger Part 5, which would be given to Troma to use in that film and anything else they wanted FOR FREE. They recorded the song, with the help of Sean Peck, lead singer of power metal kings Cage, and guitar virtuoso Rob Bachman. The song was put on as a bonus track on the self-released Thoughtcrime, and is available on iTunes and Amazon.

In an interview with Lloyd Kaufman on Alex's Freethought Radio, Lloyd suggested that a music video for the song would be a good route. He told a story about how he directed a music video for some band free of charge, so Alex decided to take the slack off of Lloyd and have the band produce the video entirely, confident in past filmmaking endeavors with Reason drummer Nick Fidel. They started shooting in April, building a set in a garage and filming Rob Bachman's solo part. Production stopped for a long while, but resumed in September when they went to the desert and got a ton of killer footage.

Reason got in touch with legendary independent filmmaker Dennis Woodruff, and a scene in front of the Hollywood sign was shot with Dennis.

There is a missing element in the music video. Reason wants to finish production in Palm Springs, CA. This will be done at night in an area with no lights or electricity. In order to do this properly, a generator is needed ($500) and a lighting kit for proper lighting (rental $200 for 2 days). That makes the goal $700.

Here's some preview clips of our music video:

If we can exceed 200% of our goal, we would use that money to film at the California Institute of Abnormalarts. They charge $100 an hour to film. But it is not a necessity for us. Anything above our goal short of paying for the Institute's filming fees, will be used for filming supplies, set design, and gas money, all of which we would've paid for ourselves anyway.

The video will be handed over to Troma for free, and we are looking at finishing it in time for the deadline for TromaDance 2012 film festival submissions, which is February 1st, 2012.
