Welcome Dwarves and Elves, Gouls and Ghasts, Witches and Wizards, Hackers and Cyborgs, Players and Game Masters.
Welcome to the Realmware Kickstarter for Tabletop Tools!
Here at Realmware, we want everyone around the table to have the best experience possible. For that reason, we're taking a two-pronged approach in our quest to make tabletop gaming as immersive as possible for your players, while keeping everything as seamless as possible for your GM.
Prong #1 : Software
The Master's Toolkit is our software package for Game Masters, providing everything you need in the one application. We provide multiple modules that can all work together and talk to each other, so that when you're in-game, you can stay in the world and stay out of menus.
We will be releasing the Master's Toolkit Alpha on PC to backers on December 23rd, with three modules. In the meantime, try it out for yourself!
Module #1 - Soundscapes
Handling all of your music and ambient needs, the soundscape module gives you unprecedented power over your campaign's sound.
With our Mixing module, we expose every individual instrument in your music to allow you to fully customise any of our music to best fit your game. Love one of our songs, but find the drums annoying? Mute them!
Our Ambience module allows you to set the scene for your players. We allow you to set how often you want effects to fire off, giving you the ability to create incredibly organic and lifelike ambience to fully immerse your players in the world. We also provide the SFX module for when your players do something unexpected, with a simple 'click to activate' interface for all of your sound effects.
Finally, we allow you to create your own custom presets from our library of content to ensure that you have all the music, ambience and sound effects that you need for your upcoming session.
Listen to some of Dante's music on Soundcloud!
Module #2 - Cartographer
Next up is our Cartographer module, handling all of your map creation.
Here at Realmware, we don't want to restrict your creativity or vision, so we haven't set any limits on the size or complexity of the map you can make. We allow scrolling infinitely in any direction, and object placement and manipulation to sub-millimeter fidelity.
Our easy-to-use UI allows simple object and tile placement at the click of a button, and our brush tool will give you the ability to freehand draw your terrain. Once placed, any object can be re-positioned, rotated and scaled.
We also give you a dynamic 2D lighting engine with real time shadows, so your players can have the exact picture of their surroundings. We've built ambient lighting as well, giving a time-of-day slider or the ability to set your own ambient colour throughout the map. Working in conjunction with this is our Fog-Of-War system, so you can actually hide that secret room.
Lastly, we're introducing the Portal system, letting you link your maps together with the click of a button. Portal-linked maps can optionally be loaded on top of your existing map, giving the option for completely modular map design.
All of your map creations can be exported for printing, or for use in other tabletop gaming software.
Module #3 - Scenario
Tying all other modules together is the Scenario module. This is where you'll run your game, track your initiatives, affect your map, and everything else you need.
The Scenario module has been built with our modular design philosophy, meaning that you shouldn't have something on screen that you don't need. Every component has its own draggable window, and can be closed if need be.
We'll be giving you a few components in alpha, but will be constantly adding more as time goes on. If you back now, you'll be starting off with:
- Map plugin - Projects the player map out to a second screen while hiding what you don't what the players to see. Manage your lights, activate your embedded media, etc.
- Soundscape plugin - Manage all your sound without needing to return to the Soundscape module.
- Notes plugin - A basic note management tool, giving you all the info you need, when you need it.
At Realmware, we believe that once you've paid for something once, you shouldn't have to pay for it again. Instead of releasing 'premium' versions of our software, or making you subscribe to access our tools, once you buy the Master's Toolkit software you will get all future functionality updates for free.
Instead, we will be releasing optional content packs that can be used to spice up your adventures.
Content packs are entirely optional to be purchased for the Masters toolkit, purchasing them you support our artists by purchasing their tiles/objects, music/sound effects, but you can also import your own content.
All packs feature a minimum of:
- 20 hand painted tiles
- 50 object tiles
- 27 music tracks
- Multiple ambience and sound effects
We'll be releasing 3 packs a year as part of a yearly saga, as well as a free essentials pack to allow a bare-bones campaign. At the end of each saga, we'll be opening up a poll to the community to choose what our next saga will be.
Our first saga is the Fantasy Saga, consisting of:
Fantasy Essentials pack : All core tiles and objects a Dungeon Master needs to run their campaign, in a fantasy setting with music and sound effects
The Wild: The theme of this pack is "Wild, nature claimed lands". Jungles, forests, ancient forgotten ruins, hideouts of bandits and thieves and fearful monsters and camps of your adventurers where they start their journeys into the wild lands.
Towns and Cities: The realm where the humanoids rule, medieval cities and castles, and the surroundings away from the city folk, the farming country and the lands of battle where armies gather in their campsites or strongholds before the war.
Dungeons Deep: The realm under the surface. It is dark and often terrifying. Contains ancient catacombs, underground prisons and torture chambers, sewer- and cave systems. Not for the faint-hearted.
Prong #2 - Hardware
When running a tabletop gaming, the table itself is the centerpiece of the entire experience. For that reason, we have created the Atlas series of table extensions to even further enhance your games.
The Atlas Series
The Atlas is what will both literally and metaphorically "hold up" your world as you build, craft and experience your story with your players.
All of our hardware shares the same modular design philosophy as our software, and has been to meet the needs and expectations of tabletop roleplayers everywhere. Every Atlas is designed to be fully portable, and comes with The Vault, a portable storage unit that raises the playing area, giving you a full sized play area while still having room for dice and character sheets underneath.
Crafted by hand in Melbourne, Australia, the Atlas comes in three different varieties to cater to your specific needs.
The first in the bloodline of Atlas products, the Atlas Classic was designed for portability and ease of use. Featuring a removable, scratch-resistant perspex sheet to frame your printed out tabletop maps, we make sure that once your maps are placed down, they aren't going anywhere.
Light and easy to use, the Atlas Classic is perfect for your weekly tabletop nights at any location.
- Contains a play area of 20 x 35 inches
- Built for printed maps only
- Starts shipping December 2017
The Atlas has been build to be the ultimate immersive platform your your printed maps. Featuring RGB backlighting, down-facing lights for your character sheets, and 4 USB charging ports, the Atlas provides a complete upgrade over it's younger brother, the Atlas Classic.
With the combination of down lights and ambient mood lighting above, the Atlas should be the only light source you need for complete immersion.
- Contains a play area of 20 x 35 inches
- Starts shipping March 2018
Providing the ultimate tabletop gaming experience is the Atlas Digital. The Atlas Digital contains the same modular design as the Atlas and Atlas Classic, allowing you to use it with any existing table.
The Atlas Digital is how we feel modern face-to-face tabletop roleplaying should be done. Built to work best with the Master's Toolkit, the table will ship with an in-built computer to run a table-version of the Toolkit software that you can connect to via wifi, but will also come with a HDMI cable so that you can use any other software you like.
- Starts shipping Late 2018

Risks and challenges
Keeping up with Hardware orders.
Due to us being a small, community based company, we are not currently geared to take in a large production line of orders. If the Kickstarter is successful and we receive the funds, majority of the payment will be put to increasing our manufacturing force and expanding our facilities.
We have placed an estimate on delivery dates for our products and we intend to keep to them. That being said we have measured the dates off an ideal scenario, ultimately things either change or get more difficult, especially shipping overseas. But as a small team we can be flexible and we will do everything within our power to continue to meet our promised shipping times.
Concentrating on two different angles of Software AND Hardware in one kickstarter.
We are a group of very different and skilled individuals, as such we have been able to go about achieving our goals with the products in a myriad of different ways. By proceeding with a wide lens, we believe we can not only make our passion for immersion doable but we can tackle it from directions we've never seen done before. Both the product lines were made to work together as one unit, especially in terms of the Atlas Digital, but we understand that it's not for everyone so we try to accommodate different expectations and lifestyles with many versions of similar products.
