A Study on the Ten Commandments
I’m just an ordinary woman getting through an ordinary life with an extraordinary God. These are just some of the lessons I've learned.
Everything about this two-week study is designed to be simple. From the no-frills cover to the easy layout to the short daily readings with a place to write your own personal thoughts.
I've always had a desire to draw closer to God; to understand Him more intimately. I embarked on my own personal study of the Ten Commandments. What resulted was this writing project.
It's my desire to share this study with you. I'm not a theologian. I'm not a preacher or a pastor. I'm just a Girl for God, simply sharing what He's given me.
I've been trying to come up with something profound to write to get your attention and support this project. But I'd rather let you read for yourself.
The following are excerpts from the Study:
I’m not perfect. I’m just an ordinary woman getting through an ordinary life with an extraordinary God.These are just some of the lessons I’ve learned.
“I seek you with all
do not let me stray from your commands.
I have hidden your word in my heart
that I might not sin against you.”
(Psalm 119:10-11, NIV.)
I seek a closer relationship with God. I want to be the better person He has made me to be. It’s this desire that has brought me to share this personal study with you.
“The Ten Commandments are not Multiple Choice.” I had this on a bumper sticker about 15 years ago. How often in life we think of the better choice instead of just the choice: To follow Him, or not.
God didn’t give us the Ten Commandments to control us. He did it because he made us. He knows us and knows what’s best for us. He did it to save us from unnecessary heartache. He did it to save us from ourselves. They’re His guidelines for us to have a better, happier, healthier life.
God makes waste of nothing, even His words.
His words are just as important as His people.
And you are important to Him.
When is the last time you stayed up late reading the Bible, or just talking to God? I’m not talking about one arm propped under your pillow as you doze off to sleep. I’m talking about, sitting up, lights still on, turning off the noise, being with God.
The question is, how long can you ignore God before He gets your attention?
I think as humans, we all fundamentally feel rejection. We know in our core that we’re nothing, alone, fragile, and breakable. It’s God who saves us for Himself. He is a jealous God because He knows what’s best. That road you’re on? He’s been there. He knows where it ends. And He wants to take this journey with you.
“Do not give dogs what is sacred; do not throw your pearls to pigs.” (Matthew 7:6). Satan would have you come to a twisted understanding, to keep you under his nasty influence and prevent you from reaching out with God’s grace and mercy. Rather, rise above the lies of the enemies. Respect the humanness of your heritage.
If your heart is for God, He is so faithful to provide more than just the necessities. I sleep better at night letting God manage the household, letting Him be in charge of what I get and how I get it. When I let go of my wants, my jealousies, I am filled with a peace of the beauty of the world around me. I’m so thankful for what I do have… and what He’s protected me from.
“When the people saw the thunder and lightning and heard the trumpet and saw the mountain in smoke, they trembled with fear. They stayed at a distance and said to Moses, ‘Speak to us yourself and we will listen. But do not have God speak to us or we will die.’” (Exodus 20:18-19).
Don’t be afraid to hear what God has to tell you. Allow Him to speak through others in your life. Allow Him to use circumstances, people, and, yes, the Bible. Allow Him to speak directly to you. Listen to what He has to say. He is your Daddy, your Father, your Head of Household.
His Commandments ask you to trust Him, to respect Him and His people. His Commandments are there to protect you from the world and even from yourself. Rejoice in knowing that He cares that much about you: “For you created my inmost being; you knit me together in my mother’s womb. I praise you because I am fearfully and wonderfully made; your works are wonderful, I know that full well.” (Psalm 139:13-14).
God has many messengers. Are you listening to them? Are you willing to be one?
Read what others are saying about A Study on the Ten Commandments:
“Molly Jo has
personally helped me to apply the teachings of the Bible to everyday
situations. In this 14-day study, she uses personal anecdotes and Bible verses
to show that the Ten Commandments are as relevant today as they ever were (if
not more so). If you feel like you've allowed yourself to stray from God's
path, this study will give you a chance to reset your spiritual focus, and
cloak yourself in the protections of God's Ten Commandments.”
"I am not a religious person, although I believe in God. I started asking Molly questions on how she talked to God and how she knew what He was saying, because I wanted a closer relationship with Him. This study on the Ten Commandments will help you draw closer to God and listen to Him. So please, step in with an open mind, with an open heart, and listen – be ready for the ‘thunk.’"
Risks and challenges
There are no real risks involved. The Study is already written and has been reviewed by several readers. The layout and design are nearly complete. I have a printer/publisher.
The only "risks" I foresee is not being fully funded. Because this Study is what it is, a simple way for the reader to connect with God, I've chosen to keep this Kickstarter Campaign just as simple. No fancy rewards. No tall goals. Just a way to raise funds to cover the costs of production, and be an instrument for God.
