A prototype is a preliminary model of something. Projects that offer physical products need to show backers documentation of a working prototype. This gallery features photos, videos, and other visual documentation that will give backers a sense of what’s been accomplished so far and what’s left to do. Though the development process can vary for each project, these are the stages we typically see:
Proof of Concept
Explorations that test ideas and functionality.
Demonstrates the functionality of the final product, but looks different.
Looks like the final product, but is not functional.
Appearance and function match the final product, but is made with different manufacturing methods.
Appearance, function, and manufacturing methods match the final product.
RealitySwitch Plus - The world's first easy-installation voice and smartphone controlled light switch upgrade.
Simple, no wire installation connects directly to Amazon Echo or Google Home voice assistants to enable you to turn any switch in your home to a Smart Switch.
RealitySwitch Plus is ideal for those looking for an easy, hassle-free way to install a smart switch in their home. Works great for renters who cannot change apartment wiring or in older buildings without the neutral wire required for most smart switches.
Control your home’s lighting and fans with your voice, create schedules to reduce energy costs, or monitor and control your home switches remotely from your smartphone.
It's also a welcome addition to your home. The elegant white, minimalist design complements any decor.
RealitySwitch Plus greatly simplifies the pairing and integration of multiple smart switches into your Smart Home. Included in each bundle is RealityAdapter, a compact voice-assistant hub, which has been extensively tested for compatibility with both Amazon Alexa Echo and Google Home devices.
Simply plug the RealityAdapter in-line to the power cord from your voice assistant, and it wirelessly communicates with up to 50 Third Reality smart switches. You can start with a few switches, and then add more later as you enjoy the benefits of a smarter home.
Control RealitySwitches throughout your home with hands-free voice activation. The included RealityAdapter voice-assistant hub ensures a hassle-free installation with no worries about communications incompatibility.
With RealitySwitch Plus connected to a supported voice assistant, you can turn your switches on or off anywhere in your home by voice control. You can remotely control switched devices from anywhere with the Third Reality mobile app or from Alexa or Google Home. And of course, you can always go old school and manually press the RealitySwitch Plus button!
Upgrade your interior in minutes. RealitySwitch Plus uses a patented mechanism that fits over existing toggle or rocker switches and installs in seconds. You don’t need to replace your old wall switch and no electrical work is required. The installation procedure is safe, simple with zero damage to the wall. And renters, when you move you can easily take all of your RealitySwitches with you!
The included simple and tiny RealityAdapter voice-assistant hub works flawlessly with all Google Home and Amazon Alexa products. You don't need to purchase another bulky home automation hub or worry about interoperability from multiple vendors.
Each RealitySwitch Plus includes backplanes for either standard rocker or toggle switches to provide maximum installation flexibility. Also, RealitySwitches are designed to be used next to each other in multi-switch applications.
The free Third Reality smartphone app is available from the Android Play or Apple App Store. It is used for initial set-up and configuration of the RealityAdapter, and also allows you to add more Third Reality devices in the future. Once configured, RealitySwitches can be controlled either by the Third Reality app or the native Alexa or Google Home mobile applications.
The Third Reality app is simple to operate, and setup takes just a few easy steps. Give each switch a fun name and control them as you like. Also, you can create different groups and control a group of switches with a click or a voice command. Even kids can master it. If your child is scared of the dark, they can turn on the bedroom light from under the covers!
Additionally, you can configure switches into scenes. For example, you may group garage, hall and living room lights in a "welcome home" scene.
Each RealitySwitch Plus bundle ships with one or more switches plus one RealityAdapter voice-assistant hub. Batteries and mounting hardware for both rocker and toggle switches are included.
Watch how quick and easy it is to turn a regular rocker switch into a smart one:
A small motor inside the RealitySwitch Plus with high starting torque with low starting current turns the existing electrical switch on or off. This allows a no wire install. The patented mechanism works with either toggle or rocker switches, based on the included backplane chosen for installation. Commonly available AA batteries (x2) power the switch for up to a year.
Communication between switches and the included RealityAdapter is with the widely deployed Zigbee communications standard. Third Reality utilizes the Zigbee Home Automation 1.2 protocol, which operates at 2.4 GHz and includes robust security mechanisms.
To ensure the smoothest customer experience, Third Reality engineers spend significant time testing and certifying that our products work seamlessly together with the supported voice assistants. Our goal is easy, no-frustration installation and simple daily use, which is not always the case with other home automation products.
Risks and challenges
The Third Reality team has deep prior experience in the design, software development and interoperability testing of high-volume consumer devices, including highly complex projects such as smartphones.
We are confident in our ability to deliver this project quickly and effectively. We have delivered products on Amazon before and have already established long-term relationships with electronics manufacturing partners. The product is nearing completion and development risk is low.
Remaining potential risks involve product tooling and supply chain management. We are working with known vendors and are confident that we can deliver a quality product in high volume. Our strength in software development and interoperability testing is focused on providing our customers an easy and seamless experience in configuring their Smart Home.
