Add-On Rewards, Classic Episodes on DVD & New Posters!

Hello Backers!

We're now entering the fourth week of our Kickstarter campaign.

We've come a long way, but we're not done yet: we've got two weeks left to find out how far we can go! And we've got some big plans and announcements planned for the final two weeks.

Today, we've got three announcements for you.

  • 1. You can now get ADD-ONS to customize your reward package.
  • 2. You can now add-on to get CLASSIC EPISODES ON DVD!
  • 3. You can also add-on to get CLASSIC RR POSTERS from LeVar's collection!

Keep reading for details from our team, and instructions on how to ADD REWARDS, including the new CLASSIC EPISODE DVD COLLECTIONS and VINTAGE POSTERS!

We hope you'll help spread the word about these new announcements -- and tell your friends, relatives and co-workers that their help -- even $5! -- makes a huge difference, and lets us help more schools for free!

More tomorrow!

 1. You can now get ADD-ON REWARDS!

Hundreds of you have written to ask if you can get extra t-shirts, mugs, calendars, and copies of LeVar's book. Some of you even wanted to know if you could ADOPT A CLASSROOM on top of your personal pledge.

Good news: now you can!

Here's how it works:

You'lll find the complete list of AVAILABLE ADD-ONS at the end of this update -- and if we add more, you'll always find the most up-to-date list on our Kickstarter page. If you have any problems, just send us a message and let us know. We're here to help!

2. Classic Episode Collections on DVD!

Since we launched this Kickstarter, an overwhelming number of you told us: you want to get the classic episodes on DVD. More good news!

Starting today, we'll be offering CLASSIC EPISODES on DVD as add-on rewards!

Just for this Kickstarter, we've created five new COLLECTIONS of ORIGINAL SHOWS, with five classic episodes in each collection. Themes include: AMAZING ANIMALS, WORLD CULTURES, LEVAR'S FAVORITES and MORE! Or, for the complete experience, you can now get the entire series.

For more details on all of the DVD add-on rewards -- including a list of the episodes included in each collection -- just click here

3. Classic Posters from LeVar's Collection!

If you're a fan of the original series, you might also be excited about this: to help this Kickstarter reach more schools for free, LeVar has decided to offer new, limited-edition reproductions based on THREE ORIGINAL READING RAINBOW POSTERS from his personal collection.

As far as we know, these haven't been available for over a decade -- but now, you can get one for yourself!

4. Available Add-Ons

Whether you want to add a reward your package doesn't include, get an extra t-shirt, extend your reward subscription with extras months and years, or Adopt a Classroom, you can! Below is our initial list of ADD-ON REWARDS, and you'll always find the most up-to-date list on the front page of our site.

Remember: just add up the items you want, and add that amount to your total pledge. Once the campaign ends on July 2, we'll get in touch to find out which add-ons you wanted!

That's all for today, but we'll have BIG NEWS tomorrow about one of the existing rewards!

Your Friends,

The Reading Rainbow Team

I can't afford it right now, but will the complete collection of episodes on dvd be just for the kickstarter backers, or as a teacher, will I be able to acquire it in the future?

@ Maria - chances are they aren't checking comments on this update - send them a direct message or try posting on the main comments page if you are still looking for an answer.

I live in Canada. I am already pledged at a level that will involve physical rewards being sent to me, and have added the appropriate amount to cover shipping. Now I would like to add on for a calendar. Is there another additional charge for shipping, and if so how much will it be? I don't want to be guessing this close to the ending of the campaign!

When I up my pledge, it gives me total pledged = $100, total reward = $50. There is no place to put in the poster - I assume I can get it anyway, with my mug, right?

    5. Rick Bastedo on June 27, 2014

Never mind, I went to the kickstarter home page not the RR kickstarter page. My bad.

    6. Rick Bastedo on June 27, 2014

I pledged and now I want to add on. I followed instructions and went to the kickstarter page and there is no "Manage Your Pledge" button anywhere. I don't see how to get to it. Does it make a difference that I logged in with my FB account?

I want to add on for a t-shirt but I live in Canada so do I have to add on more than $30??

If I purchase a poster, is it possible to have the "men and women of star trek" sign the poster? Obviously, I would expect to pay more than just the price of the poster. Please let me know if it can be done. THANKS!!!

    9. Ann Gregg on June 19, 2014

Yay! I figured it out... guess I needed to wake up. :)

Ann, just add the amount for the mug onto your current pledge without changing your reward level. Then you can tell them at the end of the fundraising period.

Add-on of a calendar with a @cwgabriel drawing? Oh yeah, that's worth an extra $25!

    12. Ann Gregg on June 19, 2014

I've already made a pledge but the add-ons don't show up anywhere. Are they available yet? Do I have to cancel my pledge and start over? Help! I want a mug! :)

    13. Josh "Panda Cub" on June 18, 2014

Oh and they could still offer a limited edition Signed Complete DVD Collection set in a more fancy box with a numbered certificate and thank you letter from LeVar for $900

This would be for those that have the lots of money to spend and want something extra special. The box should be limited to say 20 people and could be a new Pledge tier.

    14. Josh "Panda Cub" on June 18, 2014

The cost of the episodes should be more in-line with the cost of actual TV series. Consider that complete series of Star Trek TNG sells for $227.49 on Amazon and has 179 episodes in total.

I think that a more reasonable price would be $380 which would come to $2.5 per episode. At this price there will be significantly more interest in buying the DVD set.

It would be better for RR if they sold 50 of them at $380 than only selling 5 at $750.

    15. William Ir on June 18, 2014

That is definitely better, and it's going to go to a good cause which is what I originally pledged to support, so hopefully I can save enough in the next two weeks to up my pledge. Thanks for listening!

      C. Small on June 18, 2014

Thank goodness they just lowered the cost of all the episodes to $750. Still a lot more then I would be willing to spend, but FAR more reasonable then $1500.

Much as I would love to have the complete series of reading rainbow, that's way out of my price range for anything . . . It's twice what I paid for my car. I had no idea there were so few episodes. It seemed like there were hundreds each year. At least the complete collection exists. Eventually maybe I will be able to afford it.

    18. Jason Y on June 18, 2014

If you do the math on the dvds, it's basically $10+ per episode. That's ludicrous. While I love Reading Rainbow and this kickstarter (I pledged $75), I'll pass on the dvds.

    19. William Ir on June 18, 2014

So I have two weeks to make $1500 in order to up my pledge for a complete DVD set...... Hmmm... Anyone want to buy my Atari?

    20. Becky Pusch on June 18, 2014

I agree - $1,500 seems far far beyond the reach of most families, and much higher that I would have expected. Full seasons of most shows are between $40-60 it seems usually, so up to 20-24 half hour episodes or a dozen or more hour long shows.

I know the funds are supporting RR, but still....

    21. J. "Tech" Priest on June 18, 2014

Wow wish i could afford the collection. I am sure it has to do with all the multiple licenses and copyrights. Bummer really but I hope more donate.

    22. Tomas Krynsky on June 18, 2014

I love this project, I've donated at the $250 level which is more then I've ever donated to anything, seriously, that's how strongly I feel about this project. But $1,500 for all the reading rainbow episodes on DVD?!? I think you need to drop a zero, It's too far off all the the other reward tiers.

      on June 18, 2014

Bummer. I'd love the DVD collection but the price is way beyond my range right now. :-(

Can i request a shout out for a game called Data Hacker: Reboot ACT 1

The creator has suffered setbacks as a result of a saboteur,

      Thanks !

Another thing to do is to simply start a second Kickstarter ID. All you need is another email address as all your IDs can link to the same Amazon account. I have 4 - my main 1 plus Harry Dresden, Trixie Belden and Travis McGee. All 4 have pledged to this Kickstarter.
