Dear Backers,

Hello from Pittsburgh, where I've traveled to give a talk tonight at the Fred Rogers Center. (Some of you might have known Fred better as MISTER Rogers!) To me, he was an inspiration, a mentor, and a friend, and it's an honor to be speaking here tonight.

Our team has spent a lot of this weekend reading all of the questions you've been posting and sending in, and writing clear answers. We'll be sharing many of those with you tomorrow, so please check back!

And if you didn't know, today is International Children's Day in many countries around the world. It's a day set aside to celebrate children and childhood. And take it from me: there's no better way to celebrate it than by sitting down and reading with a child

If you do, you'll be helping to create a life-long reader. But you don't have to take my word for it: try it and see for yourself!

If you want to help us keep moving toward our stretch goals, it's easy! Take just a moment and share this message (or one of your own) on social media:

It’s #InternationalChildrensDay. Celebrate w/ us by pledging $5 to bring @ReadingRainbow to more kids & classrooms!

It's a shame if this does not make the top ten most donated projects.

Nice job LeVar. I loved Reading Rainbow as a 4th grader and I still love the old videos today. Your commitment to spreading the joy of reading and your narrative in the show are second to none. Thanks for the memories and thanks for your kickback to the kids. Keep it going...I'll support this cause all day long and at 37 years old, I'll happily watch the show again. Nothing beats the books.

LeVar - I can remember watching Reading Rainbow in my special ed classroom in the 3rd grade and hoped one day, to feel the joy you found in books. I could not read and hated books at the time. I was later diagnosed with dyslexia, pulled out of the classroom, and homeschooled by my mother. I'll never forget listening to you say that I could "be anything". I am now a Medical Student and can read just about anything. You stand for limitless possibilities for all students - Thank you!

I am BEYOND thrilled to be a part of this Kickstarter campaign and cannot be more proud to say I grew up as a Reading Rainbow kid. There was not an episode I didn't see (if not 10 times) and I can still recall scenes from some of my favorite books and episodes (The Purple Coat, A Chair for My Mother, Abiyoyo, Imogene's Antlers, Mufaro's Beautiful Daughters, and anything by Steven Kellogg, just to name a few).
My brother and I also grew up watching Star Trek: The Next Generation with my father, so we felt like we had an inside scoop when the special tour of the Starship Enterprise took place and we got to see how the transporter effect was done - I'll never forget the image of the glass of water and glitter and picture it any time I see anyone beamed up in a Star Trek show/movie!!!!
My love of reading thrives to this day and though I credit a lot of it to my mother and father reading to me every night, the magic of books coming alive on Reading Rainbow are some of my fondest childhood memories.
Thank you, from the bottom of my heart, for starting such a wonderful project. Can't wait to see where it goes from here.

I am so happy to help towards this great cause. I grew up watching this show! Although I did struggle with reading and wasn't very interested in books that all eventually changed. By the time I was in the 6th grade all I did was read and most of my babysitting money went towards books! I wish this show was back on PBS

I keep sharing the links, and I follow along excitedly to watch the numbers climb! I took it a step further and wrote a blog post as well, which I'll be spreading around to help! I have several friends who jumped on the band wagon with me and donated, and I won't stop talking it up until the goals are met and the project is closed.

I celebrated the day by upping my pledge. I hope some others did too.

I hope you keep up the frequent updates. They remind everyone to keep telling their friends, families, and just random people on the street that this exists and is an undeniably good idea. Your enthusiasm for this project will be contagious. We've entered into the slow grind of the campaign now, which is typical and not to be discouraged by. All you gotta do is keep reaching a few more people each day and encourage them to keep reaching a few more. We'll get to $5 million and beyond either way, but the frequent updates help.

It would be wonderful to be able to make monthly donations once you're up and running. I'm able to give to PBS monthly and would happily add Reading Rainbow to that list.

    15. Matt Harrell on June 1, 2014

So glad to contribute to such a wonderful cause. While Reading Rainbow didn't inspire my love of books, as I fell in love with reading before it existed, in the late 70s. I would sit on my mother's lap as a little kid, as she read Dr. Seuss. One day, I told her I could read it, and began to do just that. Despite her initial reaction, I wasn't just reciting a memorized favorite. I haven't stopped reading in the 35 years since then, and I cannot imagine a world where kids aren't able to travel the universe, and places beyond it, through the magic of books.

    16. DeafTard on June 1, 2014

Yay!!!! This is what we need, DAILY updates! Keep this up and you will continue to bring more backers!

    17. Dominique Walker on June 1, 2014

i everyone! I pledged 5k towards this project, and am overly wxcited at the prospect of bringing this to my old inner city school, that was the catalyst in my intense love of reading. I am curious though, if i would also receive the honor of meeting Mr.Burton with my pledge, even if only briefly. My seedling of an organization rewards kids for learning with toys. Mr. Burton is fully aware what needs to be done to inspire our children to learn and become productive members of society. Please forgive the incinclusion of my link, as i shy away from spamming techniques, but i am intensely passionate about creating an educated and curious society. I am funding everything 100% out of pocket and just want to meet the genius who will help kickstart a new method of teaching that implements technology and keeps up with our changing needs. I need help! And hes the guy to help!

It's so cool to see this concrete act of support build and show you just how many lives your show has affected positively... we need more like it in this world and I wish this new venture much success and making a positive impact on a whole new generation and more to come!

ARGH! I just got this at 6:30pm and Levar is probably getting ready to take the stage.
It's an hour and a half drive away!
Wish I knew about this yesterday, I would have gone for sure.
Mister Rogers Neighborhood and Reading Rainbow where the foundation stones of my youth.
Hope someone posted it to YouTube later.

When I was in grade school, I could count on 2 things: TNG on weekends and Reading Rainbow during weekly Library School Classes. Helping this campaign is like helping an old friend. It's also a way to make sure that my 2-year-old daughter gets to have similar influences in her life. Thank you!

Pittsburgh is my hometown. My heroes were Fred Rogers and David Newell (mister McFeely) both Pittsburgh legends. Even though I've moved to Los Angeles I still love Pittsburgh. Have fun in town, try a Primantis sandwich!

    22. William Pelletier on June 1, 2014

Really the response you've gotten shouldn't be a surprise. A lot of people owe their love of reading to you, of course we'll all be there to help fund this project :)
