Hello Everyone!

Mark here. It's 9pm on Wednesday night here in LA, and I am trying to compose our first backer update, but it’s hard with all the emotion built up over the day. We’re all somewhat in shock.

About an hour ago, I left LeVar on the set of PERCEPTION, where together we watched you guys make the unimaginable happen.

We shot this iPhone video for all of you, right then and there:

As you can see, it was an emotional moment. We all dreamed and believed we could hit $1,000,000 in the 35 days of the campaign… but never, ever did we imagine you would get us there in 11 hours.

From the bottom of our hearts: thank you.

To the 30,000+ of you who have pledged so far: there is so much we want to share with you, starting tomorrow. If you sent in questions, I promise, FAQ’s are being written RIGHT NOW! (So many of you commented and wrote questions that our mail server froze. #happyproblems)

Tonight, I can tell you that, as excited as we are, there’s a lot more we can still accomplish together, and that every single dollar pledged to this Kickstarter will go to the same two goals: put Reading Rainbow onto more platforms, and get Reading Rainbow into even more classrooms for free.

From all of us: thank you, thank you, thank you.

More tomorrow!

Mark & The Reading Rainbow Team

I've upped my pledge 4 times over the course of the past month. I believe in RR and all the good that it brings. As a kid I learned that reading truly is magical... there's nothing better than a spirited book and an imagination. Thank you, LeVar Burton, for making this dream a reality. (37 minutes and counting. I love the ticker!)

    2. Zan Knox on June 1, 2014

No Levar, thank you, and the rest of the guys for bringing back RR to this new generation of kids in the needing of a freshway of learning to read.

    3. Benjamin Kan on May 31, 2014

So much emotion is in this video, you can even see Levar tearing up a bit, even brought a tear to my eye. I grew up with reading rainbow and even when hated reading this show was so entertaining it got me started to visit my library to start looking at books that looked like something that I would like. Thank you for bringing this to another generation that is so focused on games and the internet rather than books. =]

Very happy about this project :) Congratulations and all the best!! Here's to more Reading Rainbow!!

Reading Rainbow is a cherished part of my childhood and helped fuel a lifelong love of reading. Education is fundamental to ending cycles of poverty, incarceration, and shame. I am so impressed by your personal investment in the lives of children and proud to stand beside you in some small way.

Every once in a while there is something special, something universal and human that can speak to all of us. Reading Rainbow was a huge part of my childhood and I am so glad that I have the opportunity to be a part of that.

    8. Christopher Banks on May 30, 2014

Seriously, so easy to give a chunk of my paycheck to this. RR inspired me as a child and turned me into the reader and author I am today. Thank you for letting me give back in a small way; allowing me to contribute my own voice to the world of literature.

    9. Emilie Bisset on May 30, 2014

As an English teacher for at-risk high school students, and as someone who grew up with Reading Rainbow and the magic of a book, I cannot put into words my excitement about this project.
Being able to read and enjoy reading at a young age is so instrumental in all parts of a student's life. Every day I see the devastating impact that early illiteracy can have on a child. Even if they do stay in school and graduate, even if they do learn how to read, that obstacle of learning and reading stays with them long after they leave the classroom.
I cannot wait to see the changes this project will make in the lives of so many children. To LeVar, thank you for helping me become the avid reader I am today, and to the whole Reading Rainbow team, thank you, in advance, for all the lives your work will change in the coming years. You all are truly an inspiration!

honestly it is *my* pleasure to donate to this project. I'm 36 years old and grew up watching RR. Growing up it wasn't "cool" to read or be a book nerd...I always felt RR was my sanctuary and a safe place for me to be excited about books...Thank you for putting this together and I only hope that some kid will get the same experience out of it that I did :-)

    11. Lorena Diaz on May 30, 2014

I came into this country as a child and immigrant who could not read English. Reading Rainbow was my teacher and I totally immersed myself in the joy Mr. Burton brought me via my television set. I STRONGLY believe that it was this foundation that helped me become an advanced reader very early on in my education. I did not think twice about donating to this program. Thank you for doing this... from the bottom of my heart, thank you. I know it's not easy to put things like this together, it takes tremendous planning and commitment and hours of work that will never be fully recognized but I am SO PROUD to be a part of this and the change you will make will be felt for generations to come. You are giants!

    12. Michelle Cole on May 30, 2014

@Nathan Alan Thanks! I just don't see any reason to have them spend any extra money on stuff that's nice to have, but I really don't need. I'd rather it go to something for this whole thing - be it getting into another classroom, or adding a book to a library :)

    13. Eric Gouveia on May 30, 2014

This was a great idea!! i loved this growing up as a kid in the early 90's!! now that i'm 30 i couldn't help but donate and support this. The world needs this, this will help kids everywhere and inspire them to imagine, think and believe in themselves! keep up the good work ,Levar!!!

    14. Shannon Symonds on May 30, 2014

So often I look at material things and have that SHUT UP AND TAKE MY MONEY moment. That's exactly the feeling I had when I saw this. I only wish I could give more. Books changed my life, and I know this program is going to do the same for so many other children. As others have said, don't thank us. THANK YOU.

I was looking at the numbers, but then the many many comments and I realized there is something much greater going on here than just promoting reading, which of course is a fantastic goal! I am witnessing an avalanche of love falling down upon LeVar and the Reading Rainbow Team and rightfully so. This is what giving is about. We were given Reading Rainbow and we want to give back, we also want to give others a share of what we had and what we love. Look at what you created! Look at what is possible! Look and see what a handful of people together can a achieve and also what many many people can do if they only join together and do their little bits in cooperation towards a great goal. Magnificent!

    16. Davey Ottewa on May 30, 2014

You're telling us thank you when you were one of the most important people in our lives?! We owe you more than this. Nearly every major movie made now comes from a book or a comic book because we're reading them, because when we were toddlers our parents left us with you, when we were in schools our teachers continued it. This is how we can say thank you, and to most of us, it isn't enough. Reading Rainbow was one of the best things about my childhood, the best things about a lot of my friends' childhoods, we wanted to help.

    17. Ali Baldwin on May 30, 2014

I can't afford to give much, but I'm proud to give what I can to help Reading Rainbow. RR changed my life and gave me a lasting love of reading. I am happy to contribute a little bit to help the next generation succeed!

    18. Jacob Kennedy on May 30, 2014

Started watching Reading Rainbow on the days I'd fake sick to stay home from school. Props for making me learn even when I had every intention not to. Didn't take long before I just loved watching it any time I could. Whole reason I became such a huge reading fanatic in the first place. Best wishes and much love!

LeVar and the RR crew, you have no idea as to the impact and importance your show and efforts have had on my generation. Your passion for reading affects all that witness it and I am so extremely proud to be able to give a little something back to you these years later. Much love and THANK YOU FOR ALL THAT YOU DO! <3

    22. Seneca Farabaugh on May 29, 2014

I grew up with Reading Rainbow, Star Trek, AND ROOTS in my childhood, so when I hear that LeVar Burton needs help to get Reading Rainbow out to more children, the question is not "Will I help?", but "Where do I send the money?".

    23. Sean Burke on May 29, 2014

2 men had a major impact on my childhood. Mr Rogers and LeVar Burton. Quality, quality human beings. It is an honor to contribute to this worth cause.

    24. Heather Baker on May 29, 2014

Thank you for letting me be a part of this wonderful project. Reading Rainbow was an inspirational show and I am so glad the future generation, like my niece, can enjoy this. Thank you LaVar and Reading Rainbow!!

    25. Justin Whitt on May 29, 2014

Reading Rainbow and LeVar Burton influenced my childhood in a lot of ways. They taught me that reading was a gateway to another world and on Star Trek he taught us all to reach for the stars and never stop fighting for and believing in what you think is right. This donation is for the next generation (no pun intended) of children to be guided to a world of books in a digital age and who look to the stars, so they can belive in a brighter tomorrow.

First, Thank you very much, LeVar. This is very exciting for all of us watching history being made for our kids.

We have already pledged for the classroom, but it would really be great if you could open up just a few more Signed Head Shots for the ones of us that wish to donate a little more. :-)

I'm so happy that Reading Rainbow will have an educational presence in this big future of ours. I don't know if you're reading ALL of these comments (they are pouring in in!) but in case you are... I could only go as high as $50. And although getting a coffee mug and a bumper sticker is nice...honestly? Whatever money you'd put towards printing, manufacturing, and shipping those, I'd rather have a book purchased for that price, and donated to a school library. (Can that be an option?)

LeVar and Co., I could not be happier to be a part of something so important and so needed throughout not only this country, but the world. Along with my parents, teachers and others, you, LeVar, your program, your cast and crew - You. Changed. My. Life. Having been born in 1984, I quickly became of age to watch your show and learn so much from it. I am now a college English Instructor, teaching freshmen students the basics of writing, but I always emphasize the importance of both. Please continue all of your hard work and thank you for your dedication to children everywhere!
