Avid camera users find it difficult to comfortably grip and quickly adjust their camera lenses, and their plastic zoom and focus rings become loose and damaged after years of use. Plus, they have to deal with permanent damage like scratches and dings from everyday surface contact.
Camera retailers run the risk of damage to their lenses every time their equipment is leased. These organizations, institutions, and businesses invest in the best lenses, expecting members, students, and consumers to use them for years on end, but they end up with scratched and dilapidated equipment much sooner than anticipated.
These issues force individuals to constantly repair and replace their lenses, which adds another expense onto the already high cost of photography. In some cases, lens repair can take up to 4 weeks and over $250.
At RDM, we’ve created band.it to solve these problems. Not only does band.it protect the lens, but it also improves user experience and precision while operating a camera. The elastic band enhances the grip and extends the surface of the lens barrel, acting as a cushion for your fingers. Furthermore, it provides a fast track when moving your hand between the zoom and focus collars by breaking the uniform surface of the cylindrical lens barrel.
Regardless of the application, band.it makes adjustment easier and fumbling for your focus a thing of the past.
Improved grip on lens for easy adjustment after numerous hours in the field.
Defense against damage to lens barrel from contact with various surfaces.
Quick manual adjustment in low-light areas.
Protection against hand oil, dirt, and other contaminants that can wear down the focus rings.
Shielding from UV deterioration caused by exposure to sunlight.
band.it has potential to enhance every camera user's experience, but we need you to help us obtain the financial support we need to effectively market our product and scale up our manufacturing. This growth will bring band.it to the rest of the world, allowing photographers to easily access and purchase band.it.
We also want to expand band.it to a variety of colors to allow photographers to personalize the photography experience for the first time ever. Your support can help us attain our aspirations and give photographers the opportunity to put band.it around their lens and Grip The Moment.
In early 2015, we started our own product design company titled RDM. Since its humble beginnings in a garage, RDM has grown into a team that is able to take collaborative ideas from napkin sketches to comprehensive product launches.
We keep the development process in-house and deliver the back end needed of product launches through a multidisciplinary workforce, efficient project management, and innovative manufacturing techniques. We have been focused on a vision since day one - to innovate the way that products are Researched, Developed, and Manufactured. Starting with 3D Printer modifications and prosthetic limbs, we’ve grown tremendously in both experience and skill. RDM is a group of individuals united and driven by the need to get the problem solved.
Risks and challenges
RDM is an experienced team with a diverse skill set that will enable us to tackle any obstacle that arises after band.it is sucessfully funded. The most prominent issues we face right now relate to the longevity of band.it, whether or not the supply of band.its will meet the market demand, and the chance of larger companies attempting to replicate or produce a product similar to what we have developed.
As a way to minimize these risks for our backers, we ensure that each band.it is fit for the field by testing each band before packaging with one of our dedicated team members.
If our current supply of band.it is not sufficient for the market demand, we will devote our time and funds to increasing our supply to meet the demand, with connections to large scale manufacturers and packaging suppliers.
To protect our product from potential imposters, band.it is already a patent-pending and trademarked product. This preemptive protection of the intellectual property behind band.it will allow us to continue to move forward with the product despite any knock-off products that emerge in the future.
