Deep Sky Colors is a project that aims to produce a never seen before professional quality photographic documentary of vast areas of the "deep" night sky, in the form of a high quality printed hard-cover book.
This book - titled "Deep Sky Colors" - will show you deep-sky astrophotography from perspectives you would least expect. Conceptually - and photographically - is guaranteed to surprise you, despite many clues are given in the following paragraphs that you think might prepare you.
This book will include many one-of-a-kind images of very deep vast areas of the night sky, all of them produced by the author. Galaxies, nebulae, gas, dust and stars as you won't see anywhere else. "Deep Sky Colors" will not only describe these areas so you know what you're looking at, but the author will also take you to the place and time when the pictures were taken, what went on, and at times, share some of the secrets about how these pictures were made that even those who also pursue this fascinating type of deep-sky photography may find surprising!
This book too gets, as they say, up close and personal. You're not only guaranteed to be entertained, but, along with probably a diverse list of emotions, you will also sometimes be surprised!

It is said that the Hubble Space Telescope gave us a view of the Universe we have never seen. In "Deep Sky Colors" you are going to also see views of our universe not seen anywhere else.
This book will feature about 30+ of the best astroimages from Rogelio Bernal Andreo, and only the images will be worth owning this book. While many of the images in the book will be some of Rogelio's most famous astrophotos, the book will also include a few images that have never been published before, online or otherwise.
Here's a very quick sample of some of Rogelio's images.
And many more!
If you would like to have a book with some of the most amazing images of our universe ever produced, this book is for you. But if you also ask a bit more from a book (say, words!), you'll be delighted to see that in addition to a showcase of our Universe and a description of what you're looking at in every image, "Deep Sky Colors" will take you deeper into astrophotography and our Universe, by documenting it from very diverse perspectives:
- It's not a manual but you will find tips and tricks here and there.
- It's not a storybook but it will be filled with stories, real stories.
- It's not a science book, but you'll learn about science.
- It's not an art book, but the book breathes art all over.
- It's not an essay, but be ready to experience astro-imaging from a very personal point of view.
The majority of the funds go to producing/handling the rewards associated with the pledges. Whatever remains is a mere compensation for all the work done in making this book possible: taking the images, writing the book, etc.
In perspective, the costs of producing the images shown in this book amount to many many thousands of dollars. If this Kickstarter project had to be funded from the ground up - as many projects indeed are - the funding goal would have to be well over $100,000 and it would take years to produce.
Deep-sky imaging however is mostly produced out of love and passion. When you back this project, you're not financing my work, my trips, my equipment or my time. You're acquiring a testimony of what I have been able to produce after thousands of hours of work (and fun) over the last few years, driven exclusively by passion and love.
Why should you get this book?
If you're going to own just one single book about space or astrophotography, I want this to be that book. If you already own a few (or a lot), I want this to be a must have in your collection. That's my goal.
As mentioned, the images are breathtaking, and they make this book very easy to glance at and already enjoy it. But that's just the beginning. Yes, I want us to go to all these structures and objects in deep space, yet that's not all.
I once said that astroimaging is like stealing a bit off the Universe and take it home with you, and, who wouldn't like that? Since not everyone can fully embrace the experience, I am now inviting you to join me, as you read the book, in a very particular journey to the world of deep sky astroimaging.
Risks and challenges
At the time of this writing, 95% of all graphic material for the book is already done. So is about 20% of the writing. When it comes to facing risks and challenges, this puts "Deep Sky Colors, The Book" in a much safer position than projects that require funding prior to starting. Aside for catastrophes beyond anyone's control, the only thing that might prevent this book from happening would be if the funding goals are not reached.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
