If you’re on Twitter at all, you’ve probably heard of Inktober. If you haven’t, it’s a project that a lot of artists participate in every October, where they ink one illustration every day for the duration of the month. It’s a fun challenge! A lot of people will pick a theme, or go off of prompts to give them inspiration. Last year my theme was knives!
This year, I decided to use Inktober to make a comic. The Collector is the result of my Inktober project, a short story about a serial killer who collects the teeth of his victims. It was October, of course the premise is gonna be horror. You can view the comic in its entirety on my website here, if you're curious about it before backing.
This Kickstarter is to fund printing the comic as a 36-page risograph book. Risograph is a really dope way of printing artwork, with similar quality to screenprints, but a little more cost-effective. Even though it’s more cost-effective than screenprinting, it’s still pricier than standard printing. Risolve is the studio that will be printing the books! They’re a great group of people who put a lot of care into the stuff they print.
Some deets on the books:
- 2-Color Risograph
- 36 Pages
- 5x8 inches in size
Obviously, the comic book itself is the main reward! There's also tiers that have some cool extras, like a golden tooth enamel pin, original Inktober art from 2017 and 2018, and custom art by yours truly done in my Inktober style. Nice. For a luxury reward, there's even a chance to have a resin cast tooth of my own actual wisdom tooth. A cool collector's item, or creepy cursed object? You decide. For the old schoolers who've been following me for years, there's a reward tier that includes the first volume of my webcomic, Dollhouse! You can totally read it here for free if you want.
$5 - Tooth - A PDF, dope
$10 - Cavity - It’s the actual book! And the PDF!
$25 - Retainer - The book and an enamel tooth pin with a golden crown, the Crown King!
$40 - Braces - The book, Crown King pin, and a 2017 Inktober original art piece
$50 - Root Canal - The book, Crown King pin, and a 2018 Inktober original art piece
$50 - Dentures - The book, Crown King pin, and paperback copy of Dollhouse: Gateway Songs
$100 - Crown - The book, Crown King pin, and an Inktober style commission
$500 - Wisdom Tooth - The book, Crown King pin, an Inktober style commission, and a resin cast of my own wisdom tooth, creepy
Any extra money gained that isn't used for printing or shipping I'll be putting towards travel expenses for conventions. I'll be selling The Collector as one of my new releases this year, and any help in getting to cons means I'll be able to afford to keep a manageable inventory of the comic, as well as afford to print other new comics I have in store for 2019. I'll be real, the last Kickstarter I did I stretched myself way too thin on how many rewards I offered and needed to get manufactured, and I can't risk putting myself through that much stress again. I am just one person and I already have many deadlines to keep up with haha. Plus, the more cons I go to means more chances I'll get to see your lovely faces!

Risks and challenges
This isn’t my first Kickstarter, so I know what it takes to get comics printed and rewards fulfilled. I’ve been selling comics at cons and online for years, and have co-edited and organized fan art books too. Risolve is a risograph printer I’ve hired for work as well, they’re super great and make super high quality books.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
