Betas On The Way To Beta Backers
The 60-odd Beta rewards (£26 reward level) from the manufacturing trials were shipped on Thursday 17th March. Over the next 2-3 weeks we'll collect feedback from the Beta backers and co-ordinate with our manufacturers to tweak the production process as needed. Vincent Willcox got the first tweeted photo in on Saturday morning...
The board tester I showed you last time...
...has proved very useful in identifying weaknesses in the process. For example, it helped us to instantly spot this pair of faulty solder joints...
...and as a result of this, a thicker solder stencil will likely be used for production (and more rigorous quality checks), to ensure adequate coverage. This is exactly why we have manufacturing trials, to optimise production to the required standard (with a new supplier).
Production Parts Purchased
The production parts are all purchased and waiting at the suppliers for me to commission production PCBs (not yet made) and assembly. I hope to be able to do this in a couple of weeks, depending on what the Beta feedback is like.
Beta testing is also essential because, when you're testing your own product, you're inclined to be 'nice' to it and treat it gently. Giving it to real users who will not treat it as their 'precioussss' is a really useful way to flush out potential issues. (But we still hope there won't be any big ones.)
Parts And Shipping Supplies Now Here
All of the parts for the stretch goals and Experimenter's Kits are now here, waiting to be kitted up. So are the shipping supplies...
We'll start kitting up the kits while we wait for Beta feedback.
Google+ Community For Pro Hat
I've started a Google+ community for the RasPiO Pro Hat here...
...where people can discuss the Pro Hat, Beta testing etc. Feel free to come and join.
That's all for today. There will be further updates when there is something to report.
Thank you once again for supporting the RasPiO Pro Hat project.
