The problem and solution we offer:

Searching for a decent stable Android OS on the Raspberry Pi was not possible to be found, they normally have bugs, are unstable and run slow. We then decided to create a stable Android version that runs perfectly on the Raspberry Pi for anyone that wants to run AOSP on the Raspberry Pi.

Our mission is to develop a stable Android version to run on the Raspberry Pi.

Our vision is to have the best Android version available for the Raspberry Pi.

Our initial plan is to start with Android 9.0 Pie.

Thanks:

  • peyo-hd and everyone who’s contributed to android-rpi.
  • brobwind for his opensource code.
  • GeekTillItHertz for his ROM script and guidance.

We are planning in using AOSP Source Codes with low ram option due to the Raspberry Pi RAM limitations and offer the best experience for the end user once  we deliver a completely optimized version of the OS.

What do we want?

That we can use it for any task, streaming, gaming, productivity use, business use, etc.

How will we do it?

We will have the BEST behind the project to achieve the optimization and development of the project.

When will we do it?

ASAP!

What do we need?

DEVELOPERS willing to contribute as well as an economic contribution to be able to pay the team some cash to contribute actively daily to the project.

How can you contribute?

Getting in touch with us for a free development contribution or economic contribution if you are able to.

When will we have it ready?

We are expecting to have it before the end of this year!

When will I be able to test it?

ASAP! As soon as we have the first testing builds we will deliver them to all contributors.

Will there be more than 1 version?

We will try to keep all our efforts on resources on 1 version, if we get enough help and contribution we can start thinking in having different versions like an Android TV version!

Non-profit organizations can also help!

Non profit organizations can also contribute so that a stable Android release is delivered to everyone, we know that many Raspberry Pi are in economic growing and poorer countries therefore we would love to provide them the best of Android so that they can use it for their daily tasks as well as learning how to develop and test in the device!

Private businesses will benefit from this project!

If you are a private business you can also benefit, having a low power Android device can reduce your electricity bills and can make you have a higher productivity inside the business. We will make sure you get security patches monthly and give you all the support you need.

How will the project continue?

The project will be free for users and we plan to give support to business for a small cost. With the business contributions and users donations we will continue optimizing and support different versions and platforms in future.

What are the project requirements?

  • Raspberry Pi 3B: 45€ including shipping (first batch, batches depend on the demand)
  • SanDisk Extreme PRO 64 GB: 35€
  • Website development: 300€
  • Server: 50€ yearly.
  • Android RPI development
  • We are also looking for collaborators not only economically but that can also provide a bump in the project development.

So mainly the project requirement is to have some money to motivate developers to put some extra hours buying them a snack and a coffee and of course look for even more contributors for the project.

Thank you.

We are really excited to present this project and we are hoping to get all the help possible to make this project a reality and that millions of users can have Android running stable and fluently on their devices.

Risks and challenges

Deciding the best version to be able to start the development and that the team can optimize the maximum out of Android to be able to use it in the Raspberry Pi.

Achieving with the minimum the maximum and delivering the best OS for the Raspberry Pi.

If we get a great support giving the best out of all the versions we will be providing.

Getting the version to be completely optimal for heavy activities such as gaming and video playback.
