As of August 31st 2015- the Rare Elements team has decided to go back to the drawing board and continue development on Re’ of Light and its components.
To that end, the team will be canceling this project and putting all our efforts into evaluating its current structure and development.
We have exciting plans! And we look forward to sharing more about it soon. Your continued enthusiasm and support means the world to us. Kerry & Miya want to thank each and every one of you – we can’t wait to unveil our new plans!
Ré of Light is set in a world plagued by an ancient magical corruption that is slowly breaking free of its primordial cage...
Our histories tell of a pair of fearless sovereigns who sacrificed themselves to lock away a great corruption found deep beneath the forest.
Over the millennia their power has begun to wane and a foulness seeps up from the very earth, mutating everything in its path.
Few remain who know the secrets of the Foundry and the whispers of dark times to come. The guardians of the Foundry can no longer hold back the force that is corrupting the very fabric of our world, polluting minds and devastating the lands.
Ré of Light is a d20 adventure offering players moral choices and situations that affect the very fabric of the world around them.
Over the last two years the Rare Elements minions have been developing a world where we could feature the creatures and concepts we created during our last two Kickstarter campaigns. We couldn't have come this far without YOUR help - THANK YOU!
This Kickstarter is a little different from our previous campaigns --
We are designing and developing an entire adventure and setting, not only minted pieces. Therefore our needs are different this time around.
We must order and produce in volume, which means our funding and stretch goals are based on number of box set adventures sold. The minimum order is 1000 box sets and if we can drive volume even higher we will be able to include more in your box!
The minions need your support now more than ever. We hope that Rare Elements will continue to grow & that we can continue to design games and supplements for years to come - but we cannot do it alone, we need your help!
Each pledge gets us closer not only to funding this campaign but keeping the lights on for future projects.
Please spread the word and help us bring this world to life!
A call for aid
This adventure utilizes the existing Rare Elements coins as both currency and facets of magic. Role-playing veterans and novice gamers alike will discover a tool to measure moral choices and situations, allowing characters to follow their evolving beliefs and personal codes as the adventure unfolds. You decide what path to take, what rewards you seek and if you are going to be friend or foe to the Guardians of the Foundry.
Morality and Ethics in Ré
In Ré of Light, players will be introduced to the Ethos Octant, a system to signify life-affecting choices that characters make during their travels. The face of the Octant has four Principal Marks, the four lesser marks, Submora are interspersed between the four Principals.
As taught by wise scholars throughout the lands of Ré, the Ethos Octant is read thusly: the Principal Marks are divided by Enlightened and Fallen on the upright axis, with Reason and Emotion on the crossing axis. The Submora are Resolute and Empathic of the upper moiety, with Empiric and Heterodox of the lower, to allow for greater fluidity of the Octant.
In the lands of Ré, belief is a symmetrical structure. By acknowledging both good and bad of the world, it is hoped that all may become enlightened and allow for the greater growth of Ré.
The Octant is also a physical symbol or instrument used by studious beings to teach and learn from. It is also worn by some as an emblem of world derivation.
**Watch for updates on the physical design of the Ethos Octant! We will have previews in the coming days! Coin Mechanics
The coins of the lands of Ré are more than just the currency of the people. Each coin is reputed to have magical properties, making some much more valuable than their surface imprinting would suggest. Some are rare and have been hoarded over time; some are more readily available, while still others are used in a specific land more than others.
Four of the major minted coins of Ré correlate with the Principal Marks of the Ethos Octant. The Submora are associated with specific coins designated for individual adventures, as befitting each. The coins can be earned or acquired, utilized for power or assistance in choices made by characters as time and each scenario progresses.
Coins attached to the Octant during an adventure are handled differently than just money. For the purpose of game play, coins may affect actions taken by players in either beneficial or adverse ways. Were a character who is currently skewed towards a “Empiric/Fallen” position on the Ethos Octant choose to do a more “Reasoned/Enlightened” action during his adventure, it may be more difficult for it to occur if his pockets were lined with coinage gained from a recent negatively skewed event. If the same player was trying to move into a more Enlightened state, it would then become easier to do so if they shed the more Fallen aspects of the choice. The same would be said for anyone doing the opposite.
All of the Foundry coins have a greater purpose than simple currency. As your journey continues you will learn more about each of them.
The first seal is broken... the Smoke Behemoth guardian has been released. It is up to you to repair the damage and bind the guardian - preventing the next 3 from fading.

Ré is populated by a wide variety of evolved animal races, Humans, Elves, Dwarves and other fey creatures. The 6 core races are listed below.
The most hands-on race across the land. Prolific craftsmen, warriors and wielders of magic. The foundry coins are the handiwork of generations of Dwarf smiths and each one carries a little of their magic.
The Children of the Lace Forest are the most influential people on Ré. Fauns and Satyrs are responsible for the expansion of the Lace Forest to the South and East, with the prolific cultivation of plants and trees. They are chroniclers, scholars, storytellers, and have a reputation for being a wise and thoughtful people. They are also masters of magic, and most have strong relationships with animals and the fey creatures of the forest.
Tu’atarans are a passionate people that fear little. Left alone with only their clutch mates upon hatching -only the strongest survive- they begin life from death. Currency means little to them except a means to an end. They barter and trade for all their goods, services. Siblings, (usually three to four in a clutch) are fiercely loyal to each other. While they respect all of the greater (evolved) species of Ré as equals, they are fierce predators, hunters and warriors.
The Elves of the Islands are the most mysterious people of Ré. Many of their customs are unknown to outsiders, but it is widely known that they are in constant search of their ancestral homeland. This leads them to be exceptional explorers, cartographers and sailors.
"I saw the Fidgets as constantly moving, a very lively race. So finding a way to communicate that in the illustrations led me to energetic compositions." - Artist, Kerry Bodenbender
The rodent-like Fidgets are a flourishing race, diminutive yet resilient. Despite their relatively small size they have established themselves among the more prominent races of the world. With Fidgets being so naturally adept at moving through various situations unseen, most people tend to underestimate their abilities allowing them the swift, and sometimes cunning, maneuverability they desire.
Fidgets are adaptable to many different climates and environments, and can be found all across the face of Ré. They invariably share a great love for collecting things, and to the untrained eye, their homes appear cluttered and overcrowded.
There are two subspecies of Fidgets: the more common mouse-like, and the larger rat-like.
Physical Appearance: Most Fidgets resemble mice or rats, and are able to walk on their hind legs though their natural form of mobility remains on all fours. When standing and walking upright, most Fidgets are around three feet tall but some can be much shorter. If they measure any taller, they are most likely the rat-like variety of Fidget who can grow up to four feet in height.
Society: Fidgets live in tightly knit colonies, villages of their own making, or in densely packed communities inside buildings modified to their small size. These communities are usually located within or beneath larger human or Faun settlements. Fidgets are fiercely loyal to their own race, and will gather en masse to protect their own.
Relations: Fidgets are naturally curious about all of the races of Ré, seeing in them opportunities to learn and advance their own culture. They get along well with humans, sharing space with them in almost all corners of Ré. They respect Fauns for their grace, dignity, and wisdom as well as their deep connection to nature. Many Fidgets serve on elven ships as they are exceptionally suited for life among the rigging and masts of large boats. They don’t mix well with Dwarves since the earthen race view them as flighty and childlike. A friendly relationship among the two races is rare, indeed! Though most Tu'a respect all elevated races, including Fidgets, they tend to have strained interactions due to instinctual differences.
Adventures: Fidgets make ideal adventurers when you can get them to break away from their colonies and families. They are naturally quick on their feet and particularly adept at finding and circumventing traps.
By far the most innovative and expressive race in all of Ré. Being the minority amongst the other races, their cunning and ability to adapt to any climate or situation has helped them build a place with the elevated animal races.

Every piece of Rare Elements art is hand illustrated and painted by artist Kerry Bodenbender. Above you can see her putting the final touches on our Tu'a warrior.
Rare Elements was founded in 2013 by Miya Sohoza & Kerry Bodenbender. These self-proclaimed RE minions have dedicated the last two years to developing the world and creatures of Ré.
We're thrilled to announce that Barbara Randall Kesel and Jon Johnson have become full fledged RE minions!
Kerry Bodenbender was warped at a young age by the art of Brian Froud. She has carried that inspiration into her own Fine Art career. Her unique style is ready to warp another generation of young artists.
Barbara Randall Kesel owns more comic books than you and still loves Muppets. She writes and edits fantasy and reality-based comics and doesn’t see much difference between the two.
Jon Johnson, known to some as 'Sir Jon' and to others as '+1', is a full-time manipulator of the English language, part-time World Builder and occasional dabbler in the fine art of beverage sampling. He is a firm believer in chaos, sarcasm and the Pirate Code. He also accepts gifts as a greeting.
Miya Sohoza is an equal opportunity geek, obsessed with Star Trek, Futurama and big monsters that eat people. Her passion for geek culture and fantasy is the driving force behind Rare Elements.
We look forward to connecting with you, so feel free to reach out with any questions you have. While we will do our best to reply to comments and messages around the clock, you can be certain to get a quick reply -
