Soviet Humour: A comedy uncensorship multiplayer game. (Canceled)
Soviet Humour: The new comedy uncensorship game by @JujuAdams and @JackCayless, inspired by The Jackbox and Cards Against Humanity!
Soviet Humour is a new comedy uncensorship multiplayer word game, inspired by the JackBox Party Games and Cards Against Humanity.
You and your friends take turns as the Censor and are given a news headline and the task of censoring three words. The other players must then replace these words, with the goal of being the funniest!
Soviet Humour features two hundred fully customisable headlines for hours of play, as well as the ability to host up to six player games!
Soviet Humour will be coming to Steam on Windows PC!
Here we'll show you a small guide on how to set up and host your own of Soviet Humour. If you plan on streaming our game with friends, make sure to use the Hide IP button on the title screen to keep your IP safe!
(Hosting and joining games in the final release of Soviet Humour will be much easier than the current Alpha build, using Steam's Friend system to allow you to simply invite your friends to your lobby.)
Step 1) Click the HOST A ROOM button on the title screen.
Step 2) Press the COPY button to copy your lobby's IP address to your clipboard, then share your address with your friends through your messaging client.
Here, you can also edit your nameplate, to make you and your friends more recognisable in-game.
Step 3) Click HOST to begin hosting a lobby for your friends to join. Your friends will not be able to join until your lobby is set up.
Step 4) Once your friends have joined your lobby, everyone hits the READY button to start the game!
And you're ready to play!
Joining a multiplayer game is simple in Soviet Humour's current Alpha! Here's a quick guide to show you how.
Step 1) Click the JOIN A ROOM button on the title screen. Remember to hide your IP if you plan on streaming our game!
Step 2) Paste your host's IP into the bar using the PASTE button.
You can also edit your nameplate on this screen, making yourself and your friends more recognisable to each other in-game.
Step 3) Hit CONNECT, and you'll join the host's lobby! Once everyone's connected and hit READY, the game will begin!
These are the features not currently in place in the current build of Soviet Humour, that we're working on for the final release!
- The ability to join a lobby mid-game.
- Rejoining lobbies that you've disconnected from.
- Easier ways to connect to your friend's lobbies.
- Steam Invites to make connecting to your friends easier.
- More platforms to play on!
As you can see from our current Alpha, our game is fully functional right now, and aside from the above Quality of Life features, most of our efforts will be focused on polishing Soviet Humour's interface to give the best user experience possible!
Soviet Humour will be supported after launch with both free and premium content, in the form of thematic expansion packs. These will add another two hundred headlines to the game with each £2 ($2.50) pack, with twenty headlines added to the base game, so that you and your friends can get a taste of every expansion before you decide to purchase. Expansion packs will also come with new title screen and in-game avatar artwork, allowing players to really get in the mood that the themes of the expansion packs will play with!
Only the host of your game needs an expansion pack for everyone in the lobby to play it! You and your friends can spread the cost of packs by each purchasing one pack and hosting games in rotation, or by gifting packs to the preferred host of your group! That means it only costs £2 for you and up to five friends to play an expansion pack!
While we're confident that between us we can provide the level of polish that the game requires, there are two things we can't do, namely artwork and music.
We'll be using your pledges to provide painterly, caricature-like portraits of Soviet Humour's characters for the title screens and avatars of the game, and light, unobtrusive background music to play during rounds of gameplay.
Risks and challenges
Your pledges will add a level of polish and artistry to the game that we're unable to achieve alone. As we'll be releasing Soviet Humour on Steam regardless of the success of our Kickstarter, the risks and challenges of the development of a truly polished game rely solely on our ability to fund artists and musicians.
Aside from the artistry angle, we're extremely confident in our ability to release Soviet Humour on schedule!
