Dragons exist in the natural habitat of our imagination, and in the world around us when we let that imagination run unbounded. In the wilder places of the world, removed from the obvious trappings of civilisation, I have always found it easy to conjure visions of these great beasts roaming free, the land seeming more theirs than mine; powerful archetypes that transcend the mundane, allowing us to revel in the magic of the world.
In my ever popular 'Wildborn' series I have brought those visions to life through paintings which celebrate the wonder of nature and our imaginative relationship with it. I loved the idea of rounding a corner, catching a glimpse, doing a double-take, then pausing in wonder. Half daring to move closer for a better view, half wishing to step away from the potential danger of detection. That idea has defined the series. In every painting there is a Dragon. They can be the main focus or prove a lot harder to detect, but always remain the central concept. Their presence represents the porous border between reality and imagination, allowing the viewer to explore the outer world around them, and the inner realm within.
Now, for the first time, I am creating a high quality art book to showcase the best of them.
This first edition will be 32 pages long and contain over a dozen full page, high quality images. It will be A4 (21cm x 29,7cm/8.5" x 11.5"0 Landscape format. Paper stock 170+gsm gloss. Cover 250+gsm gloss. It will be ISBN registered.
Each painting will fill an entire page, occupying an image area approximately 22cm x 16cm/8.5" x 6.5". This is the same size as individual prints I make. Accompanying it will be a sketch, a process shot, or similar, alongside an inspirational quotation. Every copy will be numbered and signed. In addition it will be possible to have a unique sketch added to your copy.
I want to thank you for your support through any pledges you make. I look forward to being able to share my 'Wildborn' with you in their full printed glory.
The rewards were priced in £sterling, which accounts for the slightly unusual dollar amounts displayed.
Risks and challenges
The images are already completed and the book laid out. It will require very little work to be print ready, consequently I foresee the printing proceeding quickly upon completion and shipping following. I have deliberately set the shipping costs at a low base rate throughout the world. I want this book to be universally accessible to all my supporters.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
