This project's funding goal was not reached on May 9, 2013.
About this project
Here you can find the list of current questions.
And here is the link for our Russian backers, with the description in Russian - Здесь описание проекта на русском языке.
People's Omnibus is a unique project where both we and you make a statistical picture book on the chosen topic.
- You - ask any question you want.
- We - interview 600 people via professional online survey, process and analyze the answers.
And then there comes a book with your questions and gathered answers, where all the participants are shown as co-authors of this book.
If you are curious enough - we have no doubts that you will find this project awesome!
So here are two basic ways for you to take part:
- Get a book - either PDF version (5-8$), or a paperback one (21$);
- Ask your question (60$+) or add an option to current list-like question (30$).
The first project is about Russia, so you can ask any question, which you want to be answered by Russian people. It might be about Russia, but might be not (sometimes country doesn't really matter :o))
For technical details about survey - check this update.
At the end of the project - we will publish a book with all your questions and answers. Here is a sample of how it will look like:
Looks great, doesn't it? Not only will you get precious answers and some interesting statistics, but you will also get awesome picture book! No doubt you would like to show it to all your friends and colleagues.
The book will consist of at least 40 questions: 5 basic question + 1 question for every 20 books ordered (both digital and paperback count) + all the questions added by our backers via 'The Question' pledge. So the more questions we get and the more books are ordered - the better the book will be.
Anyone who pledges for a book can provide their question for voting and vote for other questions! And for every 20 books total we will add 1 question with most votes!
The book will be available both in PDF and printed versions.
There are lots of books, magazines and websites which tell us about the world around us. And they are really great... But they often lack something... In fact - they often are in lack of facts. And that's what we want to cover with our project!
With your help, we want to discover the most interesting topics all around the world:
- Lifestyle and habits;
- Politics and economics;
- Games and entertainment;
- History and culture;
- Psychology (including complicated questions);
- Opinion towards your hobby or interest;
- Anything else.
Sometimes you just can't find all the data you need, and we really want to help you find the answers to your questions! And if this project will find your support, we might have a great worldwide service, where you can find almost any information, which cannot be found anywhere else.
The most important thing - YOU ask questions here! So it's your project! Everyone who asks a question will be mentioned in the book near their question, while all those who supported us with book order - will be mentioned on our website.
And if you participate - please help spread the word about this project! The more people participate - the greater the project will be. How many questions will be in the book - 50 or 500? That's all up to you :o)
Our first project is about Russia. We will ask 600 Russian Internet users to answer your questions via professional online survey, so that the distribution of answers will be representative to all the Internet users of Russia.
We chose Russia, as this is our first experiment, and here we have all we need to guarantee great results of our project.
If you have any interest in Russia - it's probably the greatest project you could find so far. Don't miss a chance to ask those strange Russians anything you want, so that you could understand them a bit more.
If you have no interest in Russia at all - just imagine. Would you find such project interesting if it was about another country? USA? Japan? Australia? If yes - please support us, as we need each other. If the project is successful - we'll try to launch similar project for other countries as well.
You choose a reward you want, back the project, and we send you unique the link where you can enter question / vote / add an option etc.
And here is a brief list of rewards you can choose:
Yes! If the project reaches its goal, there will be following 'free for all' stuff:
- Digital official-like data free for anyone;
- Database in ASCII or any other free format, also free for anyone so that you can look deeper in data on your own;
And last but not least - we are working on the tool right now, which will allow anyone to dig into data online. All the results of People's Omnibus will be available for everyone to view and analyze within this tool, as soon as the software is ready.
All the rewards include PDF version of the book + your name on project website! You can also provide your question for voting and vote for other questions. And for every 20 books we will add a new question in the book, and you will be the ones who choose which question should we ask.
And if you want to add your own question - there are two additional options for it: add an option (30$) or ask a whole question (100$, but there are some pledges of 60$ and 80$ for early questions). In this case your name will appear on the book pages as the author of the question/option.
If you want to get several rewards - that's easy! Just add the amount of each tier to you final pledge. If you live outside of US, please, also add 9$ for each book or T-shirt you order.
Book & T-shirt:
The Book (21$ + 9$ for shipping outside of US).
That's, again, how it will look like:
T-shirt (41$ + 9$ for shipping outside of US).
A great T-Shirt with our logo on the front and the picture of a bear walking down the streets on the back. So who knows more about Russia here? :o)
7000$ is what we need for the project to make sense, where we will have at least ~50 questions in a book. But we hope and believe that this project will attract more than 50 questions and 50 readers :o)
So the main stretch goal is the following: With every new participant the project becomes greater! It depends on you, whether there will be 50 questions in the book or 500! Isn't it the best stretch goal possible? :o)
Thus, we have one more stretch goal:
- 15000$. If we reach this goal, there is no doubt we will launch the similar project for other countries. We will ask you - where do you want us to go next and we'll launch the next project as soon as we send this book into typography.
Our team consists of research professionals who worked for 3-6 years in the biggest research companies in the world, but left them seeking for something more interesting, like this project :o) Here are our LinkedIn profiles to show who we are:
In collaboration with Serhiy Khvashchuk (KFG International LLC) dealing with finances in our project.
Risks and challenges
There are 2 sources of risks and challenges: conducting the survey and publishing the book.
CONDUCTING THE SURVEY:
This step might seem the hardest one, but we've got all we need to make it:
- Skills and knowledge in market research (good work experience in biggest research agencies), as well as all needed software;
- Agreement with one of the greatest Russian internet panels for surveying.
So we have no doubt on this stage and, if any unexpected issue appears, we are ready to cover it with our own resources.
PUBLISHING THE BOOK:
We have a great designer/artist who agreed to draw all the pictures for the book, and we will make it in time, if the number of questions isn't be more than we could possibly imagine.
As for printing and delivery - we also have already contacted some printing and delivery companies who are ready to print and deliver our books, so there shouldn't be any problems.
Have a question? If the info above doesn't help, you can ask the project creator directly.
