Alrighty - all the Amazon Payments are in and I'm sending out the long-awaited surveys tomorrow. I'll keep this short and sweet (Please read the entire update!)

  • If you want to vote on the SERIOUS BUSINESS feature requests, do it in the survey - this is your only shot!
  • If your reward includes Beta access and you want in on the Alpha, vote 'YES' to Alpha access in the survey - even if you've already applied!
  • All surveys need to be completed. We can only send the survey out ONCE!
  • Add-ons will be handled in Backerkit, so you won't see them in the survey. DON'T PANIC! You'll get your chance to choose/add/swap your add-ons later.

After most of the surveys have come back I'll send you info about Backerkit and announce the winning SERIOUS BUSINESS features.

I'm really surprised that not a single comment have pointed out that this updated lacked a cat video! I'm quite disappointed I must say and I really hope the next update contains a bonus video to compensate! :p

      Seasons, Dynacamp, and Gardening here.

Samir - No, even with that amount of money it wouldn't be possible. :) If I implemented all 25 features, it would be as complex as a AAA title. 3 is already pushing it.

If anyone is still on the fence and half undecided about choosing features, like I was until a few minutes ago, maybe I can help. I like and would love to see most of these in the game and in the end, I prioritised my picks based on what could and could not possibly be achieved through modding. Most anyone familiar with modding can tell you straight that more than half these features can be made through modding to varying degrees of ease/difficulty with the type of modding capabilities promised to us. The tower, gardening, mailman, astronomy, rope bridge, dreamland, etc. all should be possible. So I went for what I think will be hard coded (ie. core functionalities) features and, of course, my personal preference in this regard. One is rappelling for it is one such functionality that can add a lot more depth to a lot of other things (eg. rappelling down archeological sites, the giant tower, maybe a modding of rappelling to turn it into climbing up) where modding rappelling in without the system already present would likely leave a lot to be desired. Another is Seasons as it will provide different ways to experience the same locations under different parameters (eg. rain, snow, wind) and will be easily expandable for greater variety once the system is in place -not to mention that it would give us lovely sights. And Dynacamp because while such a thing could be modded in, expanding on a system with travelling NPCs capable of camping would open up more possibilities regarding AI capabilities and also because I think it would add to the feeling of playing a more "feature complete" game without waiting for someone to mod it in.

Agreed, there were at least 10 maybe 15 that I considered must-haves. I chose Archaelogy, Research, and Spellcrafting. Maybe the others can be added in at a later time.

Gosh, choosing just three was so hard. Can we not all pledge an extra $5 and get more of these put into the game? Soooo many good ideas. I'm really impressed!

You're kidding, right? These are all /phenomenal/ ideas! I picked three, but I'm going to be rather disappointed if we don't have most of these show up...

    13. Fluttershy_laserbeak.small

Creator John GT on July 31, 2013

Happy to see so many people liking Seasons; I really want that one too. Snowfall, colorful leaves, flowerblooms...sounds so nifty. Next, I went with Dream Exploration: less practical, but I can't resist the gamble. Plus, something more to look forward to during downtime than just a load screen. Lastly, Archeology: of the "getting to unexplorable areas" options, this one seems the most dynamic and interesting, not to mention perhaps the most classy.

But...I think I can be happy with any of these! I am really looking forward to explorinh this game (for a long DLC time)!

I'm guessing the votes will be HEAVILY biased to the first 5 options (first page), since the document has page break and it wasn't readily apparent there are more than 5 options.
Darn, I wanted to vote for seasons and dynacamp too.

    15. Avatar.small

Creator Samuel Cole on July 31, 2013

Oof, there were six or seven options that I really wanted to vote for. In the end, I tossed my votes at Gardens, Merchants, and Restoring Ruins. Capitalism, ho!

I did really want to vote for Cryptozoology, Research, and Spellcrafting though. :(

Seasons > Rappelling > Detailed Character Customization
Seasons and Rappeling since it's an exploration game and those fit perfectly.
Character Customization so there are almost no characters who look the same.

    17. Missing_small

Creator Corey Hennen on July 31, 2013

      Seasons > Dynacamp > Research

    22. Missing_small

Creator Revisor on July 31, 2013

(Archaeology of course as well because it might, like Rappelling, open up new ways and new spaces to explore)

    23. Missing_small

Creator Revisor on July 31, 2013

I chose what would enhance the exploration and the world:

Archaeology and Research for more lore and backstory
Rappelling for a new way of overcoming obstacles and for enhanced verticality

Rope Bridge Creator would be my fourth choice; it makes sense to create rope bridges for more efficient paths.

    24. Missing_small

      Creator Ethan Glasser-Camp on July 31, 2013

At first I thought "Ugh, don't care, why should I take the time to read this list", but then it turns out I DID care. I put Spellcrafting, Archaeology, and Seasons. After that I'd probably pick: Gigantic Ruined Tower, Research, Merchant. Then are some that seem more like skills I'd want for my character than features: Rope Bridge Creator, Restore Ruins, Rappelling, Gardening..

    25. Facebook_thumbnail_001_medium.small

Creator Stephen "Stoibs" D on July 31, 2013

Dynacamp; to make the world Feel more Alive
Gigantic Ruined Tower; I'm always a fan of these optional dungeon crawling "Watcher's Keep" type side areas.
Research; Why not expand crafting just that little bit more ;)

With mod support some of the others seem like a possibly post launch regardless.

    26. Fb_profile_picture.small

Creator Michael Kruckvich on July 31, 2013

That was a tough choice! I skipped the most obvious stuff (character customization) because it seems most likely to have mods made for it. (Besides, Fallout 3 had character customization in it, and it made so few people happy that it was still modded for improvement.) I went with Rappelling and Rope Bridges because they seem to fit the "exploration" angle so well, and Cryptozoology for something I'D enjoy searching out. (And I seriously wanted Taxidermy to round that one out, but it sounded like an "easily mod-able.")

    27. Icon.small

      Shutterbugging

      Falling Meteorites
      Clothing Style

    29. Missing_small

      Creator Elodia7 on July 31, 2013

Hardest choice I've had to make. Spellcrafting, Seasons and Falling Meteorites were my votes.

Keep that list handy; the stuff you don't implement for the initial game has "expansion pack" written all over it.

    34. Dragon-head-2.small

Creator Draco Rat on July 31, 2013

Detailed Character Customization, Seasons, Shutterbugging - those were my votes in case people are curious / want to share.

Archaeology, Cryptozoology, Dynacamp, Gigantic Ruined Tower, Merchant, Museum of Mystery, Research, Seasons, Spellcrafting, and the Frontier Mail all appeal to me. I have to choose just 3?? ARGH!

    37. Missing_small

Creator Aglarele on July 31, 2013

Hm sure sounds like a hard choice indeed.
Considering people will be able to to create mods for the game, I find it better not to vote on the things that could easily be created as a mod.

So things like the updates below will be most likely be added later on by mods:
      Clothing Style
      Cryptozoology
      Detailed Character Customization
      Dynacamp
Merchant (might need a partner npc to actually do the sales if you aren't home that much yourself)

I did like the idea of gardening, but it depends on how much attention it requires regarding watering/tending and harvesting your plants. Can't have the new plants failing on me because I'm not home enough to take care of them.

I do like the idea's of Archaeology, Instruments, Rappelling, Research, Restore Ruins, Rope Bridge Creator and Seasons.

Will Seasons also include seeing baby animals/nests of birds etc during Spring/Summer? Might be hard to survive during Winter though if there isn't much to hunt and all eatable plants are covered with snow or won't be ripe till summer again.

Research sounds like something that should have been already in the game. It's not like you know in advance which berries are eatable or poisonous right? You'll have to learn by trial and error or by books anyway. Lars how would this work in the game if this add on does not get choosen?

How would you learn to play your instrument? By just clicking to play it or would it be more like a minigame? Will making music attract or scare away certain animals?

Will be hard to decide. Any chance you might add some things later on if they do not get choosen Lars? (A)

      Creator Rigelian5 on July 31, 2013

Ok. I'll make it brief. I am taking the liberty of speaking for ALL of us backers when I say that this list is far to good to choose only some features from.
There is only ONE way out. ALL of them must be implemented. Count me in for the follow-up Kickstarter Campaign: Frontiers Full Feature Version.
      Who is with me?
In case this idea of pure awesomeness doesn't bear fruit, just expand to at least five. Pleeeeaaaase!!

    39. Missing_small

Creator Revisor on July 31, 2013

From what I read about Seasons, it seems that they would mostly lock some areas and limited the exploration instead of allowing more of it. The description talks about inaccessible areas and items.

Don't know. I've never been a fan of timers in games. I like to explore slowly and thoroughly. Seasons sounds like a timer of a kind.

    40. Missing_small

Creator Eric Downing on July 31, 2013

I'm going back and forth, but I believe it is down to the following for me:
      - Seasons (because graphically I want a game to look as believable and to encompass every element of the world around us, in game of course)
      - Spellcrafting (because I personally love the element of minor magic in this setting...it sets up the mystical side of the game...and possibly having to choose which types of magic you've chosen having side-effects within the game, karmically and physically)
      - Research (This could open up tons of options and side stories)
      - Gardening
      - Character Cust.
      - Archaeology

    41. Missing_small

Creator Revisor on July 31, 2013

We just spent agonizing half an hour with my SO combing through the features. What features would enhance the game the most? What could a pathfinder make the most use of?

In the end we chose Archaeology, Rappelling and Research.

Archaeology and Research will make the game lore deeper.

Rappelling will unlock a completely new way of vertical movement.

Rope bridge creator would also be great and makes sense for a pathfinder - create more efficient paths by building a bridge.

Gardening seems like a pretty useless skill for a pathfinder - I won't be at home anyway to take care or make use of the garden. I expect to find all ingredients on the way.

    42. Kickstarter_final3.small

Creator MadJo on July 31, 2013

I hate all of those features. just kidding! I just wanted to say something different. It's going to be hard to choose which feature to request.
