Happy New Year to our loyal backers! The new year represents a great time to chime in and update you on the latest goings on with Ray's the Dead.
We realize that many of you are tired of hearing updates, and at this point simply want to know when the game will be out. We don't have a date for you yet, but as mentioned in our last update have taken great strides to ensure we can complete the game as soon as possible, without compromising quality.
We are days away from completing an agreement with our publisher to receive additional funding. It has simply been a matter of hammering out details, and as such we have already hired for all the positions we detailed in our last update, and have begun working with the new staff.
We have spent much of the last two months getting the contractors up to speed. With that largely complete, we are starting to see lots of new content enter the game, and feel that we are going to arrive at the finish line far more quickly as a result. We are stoked!
That, plus a much needed holiday break has us refreshed and charged up to take this to the finish line.
Speaking of additional help, we have some art to share!
Here is a new variant on our Metro Cop character.
Here is a first look at one of the larger enemies you'll encounter late in the game. The Heavy Jock.
Here is a piece of concept art from one of the early game 'bosses'. I won't go into detail about how this plays out. You'll have to see for yourself!
And finally, we have added a nifty new portrait system that displays the current model of the character that is currently talking. He or she (or it?) is displayed nice and big to the left of the dialogue box. This setup is great because it lets us properly display any character, regardless of what variant body parts they appear in. It also lets us have a variety of expressions, and perhaps even animations. They look GREAT and go a long way toward giving the game and UI a polished and complete feel.
Eagle-eyed backers may notice we dropped in an adorable new animation of Lester tinkering with his invention, as he is prone to do.
The first week of December we showed the game at PSX, which is the PlayStation Experience in Anaheim, CA. The show and reception were both wonderful!
As you an see in the photos, we had a really nice four-station set up, complete with gigantic banner in the background. The stations were constantly full and we received lots of great feedback.
Big thanks to both Sony and our publisher, Adult Swim for making us a part of this great event.
That's it for this update. As always, thanks for your continued enthusiasm and patience. We are doing our best to see that it is rewarded!
