About this project
Greencastle is a full-length, feature film written, directed, and produced by Koran Dunbar. The film stars Koran Dunbar as Poitier Dunning and his son Aurelius Dunbar as Julian. Greencastle, PA is the backdrop for this quirky, off-beat drama based on Koran’s personal life experiences as an African-American, single-father living in a small town.
The film revolves around a single-father, Poitier Dunning, raising his son, Julian, after the loss of his wife. The son is independent and doing his best to push his father out of his mid-life funk. Poitier works at a local Pet Shop with promises of taking over the business. He studies at a correspondence school and is stuck between hope and despair. Julian befriends Leslie Davis, played by the stunning Nikki Estridge.
Greencastle is also honored to feature a small part played by Doua Moua from Gran Torino, who read the script, fell in love with the project, and wanted to be a part of the movie in any way that he could.
We completed production over 10 weeks this summer in Greencastle with cinematography by Jonathan Austin. The score features original music by Waylon K. Smith, John Cimino of Thunderbox, Jeremy Dubs, and Mr. J. Medeiros.

Through your backing via Kickstarter, we will bring everything together in post-production and have an amazing film to feature at film festivals. We will be color correcting, audio editing, and packaging the film for release. These are big steps in the process and thank you for allowing us to make this movie happen and to tell our story. Visit our Facebook page to see the real-time progress of the film and to hear from our community.
We engaged the local community and were able to work with over 500 cast, crew, and extras from Greencastle, Hagerstown, Washington, DC, and New York City. We want to bring this film to a wider audience and showcase the awesome local talent. It has been a privilege working with such inspiring people.
Here’s the first look of the film that we released near the end of production.
