Hi everyone.

Thanks again to all of our backers for their support.

We really appreciate all of the support that we have received, but we have decided to cancel our campaign. Our intention for the initial release of Li and the Lionhead Bunnies was to match our printing output to what you see create in Li. This results in a voxelated look for objects printed on a Lionhead, which seems to be a troubling issue for potential backers. We are already working on multiple techniques that will allow us to create smoother surfaces, but these improvements will be ready too late to help us reach our goal.

By cancelling the campaign we will be able to focus all of our attention on continuing to improve the 3D printing and scanning experience with Li and the Lionheads. This means refining modeling tools, optimizing printing and scanning code to work even faster, and adding features that are really exciting, such as multi-color and multi-material printing.

We greatly appreciate the support of all of our backers. We’ll provide updates on Twitter, Facebook, and our website as we move forward. Expect to see improved versions of Li, the Lionhead, and new offerings in the future.

Thanks again,

The Radiant Fabrication Team

Around the shop

Posted by Radiant Fabrication (Creator)

Hi everyone,

Thanks again to all of our backers.

In the text of our campaign we talk about hardware prototyping and being able to produce smaller quantities of parts on our own equipment.  We've included a picture in this update of the shop space that we rent from Renascence Manufacturing to show you the tools that we've been able to pull together. It's not big, but there's plenty of room to machine most of the parts we need.

From left to right we have:

  • Table space for light assembly and curing ceramics/epoxies in the toaster oven
  • Nate S. working hard
  • Shelving and an always crowded work bench
  • Our Tormach CNC mill, which we use to make extruder drives, heater blocks, and R-Z travel blocks
  • Our trusty Logan lathe that was previously used to make parts for the war effort during WWII, which we use to make multiple small components

To make the remaining parts, for which we don't have the correct tools, we head over at Sector67, our local hackerspace.

Thanks again and let us know if you have any questions,

Radiant Team

Li Update and More Lionhead Pictures

Posted by Radiant Fabrication (Creator)

Hi everyone,

Thanks again to our backers so far!

We just uploaded a new version of Li to our website. Now you can model with green, blue, red, and orange voxels and saved model files will be noticeably smaller in size.  Give it a try and let us know what you think:

We've also included some more pictures of the Lionhead Bunny, let us know if there are any components you want to see up close.

Thanks,

Radiant Team

Wisconsin Science Festival

Posted by Radiant Fabrication (Creator)

Hi everyone,

Thanks again to all of our backers so far!

Nathan P. and Nate S. will be at the Wisconsin Science Festival tomorrow (Thursday, 9-26) with a couple Lionhead Bunnies.  The Festival is held at the Wisconsin Institutes for Discovery building in Madison and it is a great event for people of all ages.

If you want to come visit, ask questions, or just check out the Bunnies scanning and printing, the Nates will be there from 9am until 2pm.

Modeling in Li in Color!

Posted by Radiant Fabrication (Creator)

Hi everyone,

Thanks again to all of our backers so far.

We decided to put in a little extra time in this weekend on implementing modeling and printing multiple colors in Li and the Lionhead.  The great news is that we were able to get multiple colors working in Li much faster than we thought it would take.  We will be adding multi-color modeling to the beta version of Li on our website later this week, but for now here is a screenshot of something we just got done modeling.
