To break the ice and get the formalities taken care of...
If you don't know already, my name is Rachel Williams. Raised just outside of Detroit, I currently reside in Nashville and would describe myself as a singer/songwriter/producer/douchebag magnet/fitness enthusiast/dog rescue advocate who thinks she can dance better than Beyonce when no one's watching.
And at the risk of ripping off Martin Luther King Jr...I too, have a dream.
At a tender age, I set my sights on encompassing the following: Tina Turner's dance moves, Reba McEntire's big hair & costume changes, throw in some Bonnie Raitt cool-ness and guitar skills, and give me Wynonna's bring-you-to-your-knees voice. Oh, and if Bob Seger could somehow make an appearance as my godfather, that'd be more than ok too. Super attainable, right? Ha! When my mother asked me at age 5 if we could be like The Judds (whom I idolized and made my parents take me to see at least 6 times before Naomi "retired") I told her I was going solo. That should have been their first flag..
So the awkward childhood years of the world's worst perm (thanks, Mom), Sally Jesse Raphael glasses (you know exactly what I'm talking about), braces, and clothes that never quite matched...I worked upon this vision, this dream. I perfected my hairbrush microphone skills which led to me being somewhat of a child performing phenom throughout Michigan and other surrounding states and in my teens, opening for quite a few big acts that came through Detroit.
Upon my high school graduation, I auditoned for "Nashville Star" in Michigan and made it to the top 15 on the USA Network's second season. Six months later, I moved from Belleville, Michigan to Nashville, all by my lonesome, in a beat up Ford Escort that was packed to the gills with laundry hampers of my clothes and an embarrasing amount of Little Mermaid memorabilia.
Fast foward to now:
I have been very blessed by the opportunities God's given me and to be able to still do what I love and chase this insane dream o'mine. Over the years I've had the pleasure of working with one of the top booking agents in Nashville, a wonderful management team, and working as a staff songwriter for a stretch. (My first big cut was The Harters "If I Run" single/music video from 2011!) I've been writing nonstop for the last 7 years with writers & artists of every caliber here in town, singing demos in the studio for other songwriters, recording my own material (which has been featured on Clear Channel, Country Weekly, Maverick Magazine and more!), performing shows around town and when I'm lucky enough...I get to take the show on the road and open for some pretty great acts such as Jason Aldean, Jo Dee Messina, and one of my idols, Wynonna. All that to say...
It's been an evolution.
There is no other word I can use to describe my journey here in Nashville, especially the last year and a half of my whirlwind life. All of the extreme emotional highs and some rock bottom/borderline Maury Povich Show-themed lows have allowed me to channel a voice I didn't know I had. I'm just lucky enough to have lived to tell you about it in song form... :)
I'm embracing the scars and the appreciative heart in my writing, vocals, and the vision for this CD in a way I never had the guts to before...everything is laid out in this record. This is Motown meets Nashville...it's unbroken ground & I'm up for the challenge.
The latest development.
Not only that but I've found someone to help steer this ship who shares in my vision. Grammy Award-winning songwriter and Grammy Award-nominated musician, Jim "Moose" Brown will be producing this new record!! He's played guitar or keys on just about every big country record out at radio today, as well as written songs for the likes of Martina McBride, James Otto, Josh Turner and a little Alan Jackson/Jimmy Buffet #1 you might recall, "It's Five O'Clock Somewhere"!! Not to mention, he's been a part of the Silver Bullet Band for the last 10 years backing up my idol, BOB omg SEGER! Can you tell I'm a little excited?!
But in order for the world to hear this new music, I need help...YOUR HELP!
For the first time, I'm branching out on my own to do this CD. No investors, no record labels...just me & a box full of songs. Studio time, mixing & mastering, the photo shoot, and designing & producing physical copies of the album to sell while we are on tour...it all takes money. Money that I unfortunately don't have, at all...just ask my Buick.
Anything that you can donate, whether it's $10 or $1,000 goes to support these songs that are just kicking & screaming to be heard! Please spread the word...post it on your Facebook, your Twitter, your Instagram, your blog, spread the love in email or text messages...I truly believe in this project & I'm beyond thrilled to have Moose Brown onboard to help me create it!!
Thank you for all the love, the support, the advice, and most importantly...for allowing me this outlet to vent, love, bitch, and praise. You all are the best and I sincerely do strive to make you proud!!
