About this project
Many of you receiving this correspondence are close friends of ours and are already very familiar with the remarkably creative and inspirational business that we're about to introduce into our "very ready" Lancaster city, though some are not.
Here goes: The Rabbit and the Dragonfly is the brainchild of Jason Zimmerman and friend David Seyfried from Lancaster PA. They are both truly visionary and creative people that have a bold dream for downtown Lancaster that will provide a thoroughly inspiring creative meeting space that will combine: a beautiful bookstore, a top-notch cafe, an art gallery, a stage for music and theater, a public art workshop, a gift boutique, and small authentically reproduced old English pub space all under one roof.
Phew! No kidding folks we've been working hard on this project for a while now (2 years this summer) and we've been blessed with a marvelous cast of passionate and skilled people to help us in getting this exciting undertaking under way(Make sure you take a moment to read more about our vision at www.rabbitanddragonfly.com when you can. Our original inspiration was drawn from the story of "The Inklings". They were a group of about twenty English authors that met in an Oxford pub called "The Eagle and Child" in the 1930's. The two best known authors involved were J.R.R. Tolkien and his dear friend C.S. Lewis.
The Inklings would congregate in a back room within this fore-mentioned pub that they dubbed "The Rabbit Room" (the source of the Rabbit half of our name) In the Rabbit Room these authors would read aloud their works in progress and offer friendly critique over a pint of ale or cider. Their friendship ran deep and it is their creative camaraderie that we hope to not only capture but extend to the the visual arts as well.
Since Jason and I joined forces, our central team has expanded to include two new members: Stephanie Todoroff and Laurie Keener. They are two dear friends of ours for many years that bring to the table true vision and organizational skill.
We already have a stellar architectural plan underway (Tono Architects) , a strong business plan, strong mentorship, a very experienced and well-respected business manager, a developing menu and list of activities that will populate our attractive schedule, and employees ready to roll.
We have recently partnered with Cheryl Kreider. She is the proprietor of the small boutique "Dragonfly" next to Mulberry art studio. The Dragonfly is a non-profit that raises money to support children's after school programs in our city through a foundation she started called Team Shana. Shana was her dear daughter that passed away about a year and a half ago from juvenile diabetes complications. Shana was a teacher and super committed to the children in this town; we're glad to support this legacy in part by selling her products and hosting some of her events for kids.
It's our relationship with Cheryl and Team Shana that accounts for the Dragonfly half of our name, and you may also like to know (more exciting for you Lancasterians) that Cheryl started Lancaster's wildly popular restaurant "Marion Courtroom", which remains a true success. There are talks of Cheryl joining us as a business manager next year.
We really really look forward to spending quality time with you in this magical place soon. This is our life's work, and though we don't have all we need yet to make this happen in total; we know that we're meant to do this and are thrilled to give you an opportunity to help make it happen.
In this KickStarter project we hope to raise money to pay for our cafe equipment and furniture. This will include the furniture and supply storage for our creative arts space as well. We are glad to say that we've been given an opportunity to purchase all the top-notch equipment that we'll need for starters in our cafe at a very reduced rate!, but we need to move soon on this.
Some of the items that you're investments will go toward the purchase of will include:
Essential cafe supplies including -
mugs, plates, silverware, teapots, an industrial refrigerator and freezer, sinks, etc.
Once we have met our goal, the remaining funds will go toward essential renovations, mostly cosmetic, and will include bookshelves, furniture for our creative arts center, and general decor.
We have been touched by all of you who are taking this venture seriously as if it were your own, and your contributions will help make this a reality sooner. You are a great part of the Rabbit and Dragonfly!
