Hypnose - A battle of the Minds! (Canceled)
Hypnose is a deck building game for 2 to 4 players in which you play dueling hypnotists. Who will be the last man standing?
Hypnose is a unique and fun card game for 2 to 4 players, in which players take on the roles of hypnotists. In this deck building game, they can strengthen their starting deck by purchasing occult books, hypno-courses, tools like metronomes and watches or by learning new hypnotic tricks. They can then use these to challenge their opponents to Hypnotic Duels. Winning these Duels reduces the mental resistance of the opponent. When all other players' mental resistance is reduced to zero, the last man standing wins the game.
Do you have what it takes to become the Mental Master?
Hypnose is a deck building game with a twist! It follows the main mechanic of deck builders, but it has a few special rules that make it challenging and interesting.
Two examples :
- Players have to attack and defend with the cards in their hand. But players only refill their hand at the end of their own turn. This can leave the defender at a disadvantage, if he plays too many cards to defend.
- When your score drops to certain amounts, your strength weakens, but you also get a bonus on your defense. This makes for a balanced end-game.
These are the different types of cards used in the game :
A player's turn consists of the following phases, with every phase being optional except the last one :
1) Buy cards from the shared market row or blind from the decks.
2) Play 1 card for its special action.
3) Challenge another player to a Hypnotic Duel.
4) Play 1 card for its special action.
5) Refill your hand.
(Or you can pass and draw a new hand.)
It looks simple, but because you need cards both in your turn, as well as in the other players' turns, a lot of strategy is involved.
There are two videos that explain the setup and show a full game of Hypnose, with explanations mixed in by the players.
First, the short version, which introduces the game, explains the setup and turn sequence and highlights the mechanics of the game :
For people interested in seeing a full game played, uncut, there's the video below. A normal game of Hypnose takes around 30 minutes, but because the players explain the game while playing, this video takes 60 minutes to watch :
Nox' Spellenzolder made this nice review of Hypnose :
What's included in the base game?
- Box (approximately 20x13cm/7.9x5.12inch)
- 164 cards :
- 40 yellow Value cards
- 16 blue Defense cards
- 16 red Boost cards
- 40 brown Book cards
- 24 grey Course cards
- 16 purple Expert cards
- 4 Target cards
- 8 Defense modifier cards (+1/+2)
- 1 Game board for keeping track of the scores and special events
- 4 Resistance trackers (player tokens, not shown below)
- Rulebook in English/Dutch/French/German
(The cards in this picture are a prototype. The final game will be of a higher quality and have rounded corners.)
We hope you will help us unlock these awesome stretch goals, to make Hypnose an even more unique experience.
27.500€ : Resistance Trackers, or player tokens, are used on the Board, to keep track of the players' scores. These tokens will be plastic tokens by default, but when we reach this Stretch Goal, they will be upgraded to wooden tokens.
30.000€ : When we reach our Main Goal, the cards will be printed on standard card paper. When we reach this Stretch Goal, we will use a thicker, higher quality paper.
35.000€ : If we reach this Stretch Goal, every copy of the game will include a reference card, with a turn sequence and symbol explanation.
40.000€ : One of the Pledge Levels, the Magic Mirror, gives backers the opportunity to have an Expert Card feature their image as artwork.
But even if we have less than 4 backers for this level, or even none, 4 new Experts will be introduced, when we reach this Stretch Goal.
45.000€ : When we reach this Stretch Goal, Tournament Mode will be added to the game. The rulebook will include rules for playing tournaments with 4 players or more. Each copy of the game will also include smaller score tracker boards for tournaments, to replace the main board.
50.000€ : After reaching this Stretch Goal, all cards will have a special finishing effect, to make them really hypnotic!
More Stretch Goals will be unlocked once we reach 50.000€
We offer two add-ons at the moment, but more may be introduced. To include these in your reward, increase your pledge by the required amount.
We will be using our regular shipping service for Europe, and will work with a shipper for the US and Canada. Shipping is EU/US/CA friendly.
For every shipment, we pay 2-3€ ourselves, to keep shipping costs as low as possible for our backers. For some countries, shipping is still quite high. If you back with some friends and order multiple copies, the shipping cost per item is very reasonable.
Hypnose was created by Jo Pirard, a lifelong gamer, and Patrick Pickart, a real life Hypnotist. It will be published by Red Eyed Rabbit.
Risks and challenges
Development on Hypnose is 99% finished. We are open to feedback on the gameplay and artwork, but generally speaking everything is finished.
The only time-consuming work will be drawing the new artwork in case the stretch goals are reached, but we have confirmation from our illustrator that this won't be a problem.
The game has been playtested thoroughly by many different player groups of all ages.
Our printing partner, Ludofacts, has a pretty solid reputation on delivering on time. Delays are very unlikely.
This is our second Kickstarter campaign, after our first succesfully funded campaign for Mandrago. And as a publisher we have the experience required for delivering a quality game to our backers. We started the company in April and so far have published
- Ambrosia (an RPG ) : http://r3r.be/Website/en/content/ambrosia
- Mandrago (a memory board game) : http://r3r.be/Website/en/content/mandrago
- Figment (a fantasy card game for kids) : http://r3r.be/Website/en/content/figment
- Schemerzijde (a fantasy novel) : http://r3r.be/Website/en/node/106
Red Eyed Rabbit has two people working full-time on publications, so unless tragedy strikes us both down at once, we have the time and energy necessary to turn this campaign into a successful one. Red Eyed Rabbit is our main and only job, so the success of this campaign is at least as important to us, as it is to our backers.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
