Quinn and the Quips is fully funded!
Thank you all so much for your support! We're super excited to move forward on this project & can't wait to share our progress along the way. The adventure is just beginning, so keep your eyes peeled for updates on our Kickstarter page & social medias!
Quinn & the Quips is a concept that has and will continue to evolve. Though the story has been tweaked to include a new virtual reality aspect, our core values remain the same: to entertain and to inspire young girls to learn about technology.
Continue to follow the show's progress by following us on Facebook, Instagram, & Twitter! We'll also be sending out occasional newsletters and posting updates here on our campaign page for our backers!
WHY make a new kids TV series and game using Kickstarter?
Making a TV series for kids is a magical experience. It's also a crazy, complicated, expensive and risky business. We know, we've done it before. With your help and support, we'd love to do it all over again with a very special concept called Quinn & the Quips.
In the last five years there has been a seismic change in the way kids consume media. This has also created a giant power shift. Parents and kids decide what, when and where to watch their programming and decide what media - from a whole new assortment of options - they want their kids to watch. In addition, great new ideas, talent and trends are emerging from digital, social, and new media that influence everyone's viewing habits and demands.
That's why Quinn & the Quips is perfect for crowdfunding, especially Kickstarter. We are embracing the change to create a fully participatory experience. We'll listen to your ideas, comments, and critiques. But, we need your support to show there is a need for Quinn & the Quips in the marketplace! It's all or nothing with Kickstarter, but with a successful campaign, we will confirm the demand for Quinn & the Quips... and make magic happen together!
WHAT's our plan?
Our goal is to raise $50,000 to make a short pilot and develop the first phase of the game, but this is just the beginning! A successful Kickstarter campaign will jump start the property and give us a lot of options.
We have already had preliminary discussions with several networks and SVOD platforms, and with gaming companies, so we know that there is interest in Quinn & the Quips on several levels. The next step will be to pitch these potential partners and distributors - and others - once we have the pilot and game. (It's more real to them then...)
However, with an ultra-successful Kickstarter campaign that goes into stretch goals, we'll be in a position to better control the process and produce more episodes of Quinn & the Quips to distribute digitally. Either way, it's going to be an exciting time!
TV SERIES SYNOPSIS: Quinn & the Quips
The first and most critical step for making a great show is to have a great story. It needs to be especially well-written, timely with interesting, relevant and engaging characters. Comedy helps! (Got it!) With Quinn & the Quips, we have Step 1 in spades!
Quinn & the Quips is the story of Quinn, an 11-year-old tech-savvy gamer, and her friends Ben, Kate, and Gage whom are recruited by their eccentric middle school computer science teacher, Bebe Page, to compete with other students in a virtual reality competition where they must utilize code to win…and survive. The game is complicated by arsenals of orb-like, shape-shifting quips that form alliances with their respective team captain. Real-life friendships are tested as the game intsensifies and Ben’s overly competitive spirit leads his team to use quips maliciously to sabotage Team Quinn.
It's an original concept by our talented producer, writer and editor, Alex Anderson, and we're all working closely to make sure Quinn & the Quips stays authentic while checking all the right boxes!
The series is a live action and animated comedy for the 6-11 aged demographic, but will appeal to a broad audience. While the lead character is a girl gamer, the show focuses on the ensemble relationships within her social circle. It's modern, everyday, middle school life, but with a fun, whimsical, virtual reality aspect.
The show works on the entertainment level, but goes deeper. Kids (and us adults) are challenged to balance our dependency on devices within our families and social circles. Quinn & the Quips can't solve every new technology issue, but it will help to model positive behaviors for our kids and families in a new digital world.
By creating a technology savvy girl, Quinn also has the ability to make science and technology cool, encouraging girls to enter a field where they have been underrepresented and underpaid for comparable work.
Although these numbers are increasing, there is still a dramatic imbalance. According to the 2017 ISACA's survey, 42% of women say there is a lack of role models in the field. (ISACA is an international professional association, ISACA.org.) In addition, only 26% of professional computing occupations in the 2016 U.S. workforce were held by women and only 16% of 2015 Computer Science bachelor's degree recipients were women. GAME SYNOPSIS: The QQ Game!
The logical extension of a series like Quinn & the Quips is a gaming app, where fans can experience an interactive version of the series.
The QQ Game (tentative name until we, or our fans, think of a better one) is a multi-level, collaborative game that encourages kids to use their computer, problem-solving, and interpersonal skills to capture, collect, and control the mischievous, shape-shifting quips. Players Quinn, Kate, Gage, and Bebe or original avatars engage in catching the quips as obstacles grow tougher at each level and strategies must change as Ben joins the game and tries to steal the quips first. Alliances can be made for stronger and more complex strategies.
We are fortunate to have the help and guidance of a veteran screenwriter, gamer and game designer, Jeremy Fox. Together, we’ll outline a great game and then pitch game developers to complete the app, although the game could easily translate to other platforms too.
In the market today, there is a huge demand for clever, challenging, age appropriate games…and when it’s combined with a timely TV concept, you have a winning formula. The QQ Game, Version 1 will be available as an app for a monthly subscription fee or as an online purchase.
HOW we’ll use the Kickstarter Funds
Blue Socks Media is a boutique brand management company based in Charlotte, NC. We have global experience in producing, distributing, licensing, and managing children's series and shorts. Our primary series is called Raggs and we’ve made 195 half-hour episodes, hundreds of shorts, and recorded 200+ original songs.
Along the way we’ve picked up dozens of awards including an Emmy for the Raggs music, and just last week received a silver IPPY (Independent Publishers Award) for one of Raggs book titles. Today, Raggs is distributed in over 100 countries in multiple languages with toys, apparel, and live show licensees at five of the luxury Grand Palladium Resorts in Mexico, DR, Jamaica and Brazil.
We are good stewards of funds: fiscally responsible, transparent and accountable. Once Quinn & the Quips is funded, we will fully deliver on every promise made in this plan. With the basic level of funding, we will produce a pilot and the first phase gaming app within one year (likely 6 months). We will deliver all of the backer swag and keep you posted and involved!
If we are lucky enough to be fully funded with bonus funding, we will over-deliver! Doors will open with lots more options and we will embrace every single one! Thank you!
Name a secondary character in an episode or we’ll use your name – your choice! Includes the newsletter and everything in the Insider, Own It & Wear It, First Look and Digital Packages. Limited.

Risks and challenges
With a successful campaign, we’ll have the funds needed to produce a short pilot and game. That part is easy! But we’ve had time to think about the possible risks and challenges Quinn & the Quips could face….
Probably the biggest risk is whether the show will be successful or not. We think it has all the right stuff (great story, relatable characters, fun and drama) and we know how to produce high quality products…but you never know what someone else thinks. However, a successful Kickstarter campaign with a built-in fan base is a strong testament to the potential of the brand!
There is no guarantee that a network will pick-up our pilot or that people will buy the game app. And, there is no guarantee that we will have the funds needed to produce additional Quinn & the Quips episodes if we do not secure additional funding or partners. However, that is unlikely too since we are already getting calls and securing meetings to discuss “next steps” for Quinn and her friends.
It’s unlikely, but this is a small team, and it’s always possible that something could happen (illness or injury) to one of us. That said, we have a team with strength beyond what any one of us could create alone. In the event of something getting in the way of one of us completing the project, we are all committed to pulling together, taking up the slack, and ensuring this project gets done. Period.
When it comes to Kickstarter, we’re working to make sure everything goes well. For specific rewards, we’re working with vendors that have helped us bring merchandise to life in the past. In addition, we keep our promises…so unless there’s an alien invasion, we’ll send our rewards as planned!
Remember, we have years of experience in managing other series and shorts, producing over 195 half-hour episodes, hundreds of shorts, and over 200 recorded original songs. We’ve dealt with terrible deadlines and the great recession without missing a beat. At this budget, we feel confident that we can create a quality pilot and game.
Is there some other potential issue you’re wondering about? If you’re wondering, others probably are, too! Send us a message and we’ll make sure it gets answered for you.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
