We are so happy to announce that - because of your generous support - we have met our funding goal! We've now created a stretch goal for a very specific reason.
Michael Parks, the veteran actor with more than 148 film credits, including THEN CAME BRONSON, FROM DUSK TIL DAWN, TUSK, RED STATE, DJANGO UNCHAINED, and KILL BILL VOL. 1 and 2, is also an accomplished singer/songwriter who released seven albums between 1969 and 2011. Quentin Tarantino calls him the “the world’s greatest living actor.”
Our director/writer Orson Oblowitz wrote the character of Chet Fuller specifically for Michael Parks. There's a moment in the film in which Queen Mary asks Chet to play a tune, and our vision is that the scene will feature MICHAEL PARKS'S ORIGINAL MUSIC. The scene serves as an homage to Parks, an actor who is recognized not only for his brilliant and memorable film roles, but for his extraordinary talent as a singer/songwriter.
Unfortunately, Universal Music doesn't exactly feel the same way about our vision, and we are devastated that the fee for the song licensing is out of reach on our micro-budget.
We are creating a stretch goal of $25K in hopes to showcase a Michael Parks song and to celebrate Mr. Parks's legacy as both an actor and musician. We can't do it without your support, so please continue to share this project, and spread the good word.
We shot a kick-ass movie by the skin of our teeth. We managed to cast some of the most talented and respected actors in the industry. We didn't skimp on the sex and violence. We made blood rigs, car chases, and even risked, well... a lot.... to make this thrill ride of a movie. A movie that's for cinephiles and genre fans alike. For an audience that's tired of quiet dramas and would rather go on a ride with a badass strip club owner and the weirdos she meets along the way.
We had to make this movie now, before our beloved Hollywood Blvd. becomes Disney-fied like Times Square. Before they chase away the dirty-costumed characters loitering in front of Grauman's Chinese Theater. Before Deja Vu Nightclub, where there's "100's of Beautiful Girls and 3 Ugly Ones," becomes another Coffee Bean. Before the legendary Frolic Room is forced out due to rent hikes and is turned into an Urban Outfitters. This film shows the real Hollywood Blvd., our beloved mile long haven of debauchery and debasement.
Our lead is Queen Mary. On her 60th birthday she receives a visit from Duke, a gangster from her past who shows up to take back the beloved, aging Hollywood nightclub she was given 25 years ago. But Duke is not a guy to be fucked with, and to ensure Mary lives up to her side of the bargain, he kidnaps her son Otto. With the help of a teenage runaway named Grace and an old friend Chet, Mary must navigate the dark underbelly of Los Angeles to save her love, her life, and her club.
ROSEMARY HOCHSCHILD is Queen Mary - a leading voice in the No Wave cinema movement, veteran theater actress, and star of King Blank
ROGER GUENVEUR SMITH is Duke - Do The Right Thing, Chi-Raq, American Gangster, Dope, the much anticipated Birth of a Nation
ANA MULVOY-TEN is Grace - The Girl in the Book, The House of Anubis
MICHAEL PARKS is Chet Fuller - Then Came Bronson, Kill Bill, Death Proof, Red State
ELLA THOMAS is Josie Baker - Ballers, Surrogates, NCIS: Los Angeles
JON LINDSTROM is The Snitch - True Detective, General Hospital
CHRISTA LANG FULLER is Mama - White Dog, Alphaville, Dead Pigeon on Beethoven Street
We wouldn't be asking you, our loyal friends, our family, and the amazing internet audience for a penny if we didn't absolutely need it to finish our little gem of a movie. We sunk our savings into this. We pushed off student loan payments, because, well, screw the man. Credit cards have been maxed out. Cars have been sold. We'd rather make art. But there's many roadblocks when you have a skeleton crew and a few private investors to barely make your budget. And we need your help to pay for post-production, including editorial, sound design and mix, VFX, music licensing, deliverables and film festival submissions.
Here's another twist. This isn't just a really badass neo-noir film - this is truly a family affair. This is one of the few films you'll see that features a mother and son duo - our lead Rosemary Hochschild is also our director Orson Oblowitz's Mom. This film is truly a labor of love. Cassavetes is obviously a huge influence on us aesthetically, but also in his belief in truly independent cinema. So like his, Orson's vision for this film included his family, friends, and artistic influences. Countless people featured in the film, as well as on the crew, are family.

Risks and challenges
We've already laid it all on the line and shot a crazy cool film. But if we can't fund this project, we don't know if we'll be able to finish it. And that's a scary thought. Because Duke may not be the only mobster in our lives at that point. But if we can do this, if we can convince you, right now, to throw us a couple of bucks, we can finish this bad boy and prove to you that it wasn't for nothing.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
