This campaign offers backers the chance to get Clash of the Vikings ("Clash"), a new game from Queen Games that will be releasing at Essen Spiel 2019. In addition, we are offering a special 30 years anniversary commemorative game, The Queen's Collection. This is a small-box game that offers multiple play modes and celebrates Queen's line of games.
The Queen's Collection will only be made in a single, limited print run of 2000 games, sold here on this campaign as well at the Spiel Fair in Essen. Clash will similarly have a small first print run and will first be released at Essen. We are in an advanced stage of development for both games which will be printed in October, with shipping to Kickstarter backers projected for early November, right after the Essen fair.
There is not a Pledge Manager for this campaign, so you will need to pledge for what you want during the campaign. Since the games are available for sale at Essen, we also are not offering an Essen pickup option.
Clash of Vikings
Clash of Vikings, designed by Anthony Rubbo with art by Dennis Lohausen, is a game of bluffing and looting for 2-4 Vikings that takes 30-45 minutes to play. The annual Viking tournament is in full swing, and in good Viking style, a heavy brawl will decide who will earn the winning trophy. Clever tactics and some good timing will be key in coming out ahead.
In Clash, players play as Vikings fighting to gather the most treasure. Each player is given a deck of cards with different actions on them, and on a turn, a player will play two cards from their hand. For each card, a player must declare (without revealing the card) what the action is, and other players must decide whether to call a bluff or not.
The Queen's Collection
The Queen's collection of games has had all of it's pieces mixed together! You will need to sort them all back to the proper box in time, or she will be upset.
The Queen's Collection is a limited edition product that celebrates Queen Game's immense catalog of games. The intriguing game system includes 16 cards, each depicting a Queen Game, and players must play cards from their hand to try to sort pawns onto the same colored card. The game includes a competitive, team, coop, and solo play mode.
We are doing a single, small print run of this product as a special release at Essen 2019. This is your chance to get a hold of this unique game system.
As part of the Kickstarter campaign, we are offering some special pricing on a few bundles.
Clash Game Play
Each player receives a deck of Clash cards (depicting the 8 actions) that will allow them to move their Viking around the arena to gather treasure or attack other players. Any time a player plays a card, they must declare what action is on the card, while keeping it face down. Of course, they may tell the truth, or they can lie about the action on the card. The other players must then decide whether to allow the action to happen to declare that the player is bluffing.
The goal of the game is to collect the most treasure, as the player who does this will be the winner. To collect treasure, you need to be standing on a space where there is one on the map. If you manage this, you collect it and it will score you points at the end of the game—if you can keep it!
At the beginning of the game, treasure tokens (bracelets) are placed on designated spaces around the arena. They come in denominations of 1-4, and once collected are kept face down, so that your opponents will not know how much you have collected until the end of the game.
The Action Cards
Each player receives a deck of 12 action cards, which they will shuffle then draw 3 cards from. On a turn, the active player will play both cards, one after the other. For each card, they will declare any of the 8 actions and place the card on that space on their player board. All other players will have to decide if that player is telling the truth, and the card they played matches the space they placed it in, or if they are bluffing. If no one calls a bluff, the player performs the action without having to reveal the card.
The action cards include 4 attack cards (with 4 different weapons with different rules), 4 movement cards, and a Shield card (which allows you to block an attack). Each attack card has different parameters and will allow you to steal bracelets from other players or make them drop bracelets they have picked up.
Calling a Bluff
You are required to have a treasure to call a bluff on another player. If you call a bluff and are correct, you get to take one of their bracelets (which are kept facedown to hide their values); If they were not bluffing, they will take a bracelet from you.
The Queen's Collection
The Queen's Collection is a game system with rules for competitive, cooperative, solo, and team play.
At the start of a game, a 3 x 3 grid of cards depicting Queen Games' boxes is laid out, with the Queen Logo card in the center. Players will need to sort the playing pieces back to the proper boxes by playing cards from their hand. The playing pieces are randomly placed on each card at the start of the game, and then each player draws a hand of three cards. On a turn, players play two cards from their hand to swap the position of two pawns of that color. The goal is to return all of the pawns back to the correct game box.
More info on different play modes will be posted as an update during the campaign.
