Copenhagen: New Facades
Copenhagen, a 2019 release by Queen Games designed by Daniel Skjold Pederson and Asger Harding Granerud, challenged players to complete facades along the waterfront by collecting cards, placing building blocks, positioning windows, and cleverly using special abilities.
This campaign introduces a new Queenie (single expansion module), "The New Facades" which provides new challenges and opportunities to play efficiently with multicolored tiles of size 5 or 6. These tiles take up a lot of space, making them more efficient, but their size and shapes mean they must be planned for. The large size 6 tiles particularly introduce a significant advantage, if you can afford them with a hand of just 7 cards.
The size 6 tiles are added to the pool of tiles, giving players more variety in choosing the perfect strategy. The size 5 tiles replace the normal size 5 tiles in the base game. If playing with both Queenies, five of the sized 5 multicolored tiles are randomly chosen each game to be used.
Copenhagen is a game with simple rules, but challenging gameplay. The Queenies, as well as the Missions and Abilities expansion pack adds more depth and variability to the game that is particularly good for hobby gamers. This campaign offers the new "Queenie" expansion: New Facades, as well as the chance to get Deluxe version before it runs out.
Note: This version of the game includes rules in English, German, and French. There is no need to select a language version. Translations of the rulebook into other languages can be found on our website.
Other Copenhagen Expansions:
Nyhavn Queenie: Originally released as "Queenie 1" and "Queenie 2" add-ons on the Copenhagen Kickstarter campaign, these two queenies have been combined into one product. It includes 5 size 3 tiles, and 5 size 5 tiles which replace the size 5 tiles in the base game. It is available in Acrylic and Cardboard.
Abilities & Missions: Originally released as the stretch goals for the Copenhagen Kickstarter, this expansion includes 6 new sets of ability tiles, Acrylic Joker tiles, and Missions. Each of these modules may be played together or in any combination with the multicolored tiles.
Please note: If you backed the previous campaign, you will have the Abilities & Missions expansion already, and had the chance to add-on Nyhavn. Both of these were also for sale at Origins Game Fair and GenCon this year.
The following table might help you decide which pledge level is right for you.
Copenhagen Deluxe Board Game
Copenhagen is a mixture of a rummy style card collection game and Tetris. On your turn, you will either take two adjacent cards from the card display, or use the cards you have collected to purchase facade tiles of different shapes and place them on your house. There are discounts for placing like colors together, and special abilities can be earned by covering certain spaces or rows. Players gain points by finishing rows and columns, and the first to 12 points wins the game.
Copenhagen Roll & Write Game Play
In Copenhagen: Roll and Write, players will still be racing to build columns and rows of their buildings while using special abilities to gain an advantage over other players. The game has a dice selection mechanic which ensures that all players are involved every turn. Choosing the right dice and combing your abilities is key to winning the game.
Each player is given a player sheet and a pen, and a common sheet with the available shapes is placed in the middle. The first player takes the dice, and you are already ready to begin!
On a player's turn all 5 dice are rolled, and the active player chooses to use as many dice of one color as they would like (one side of the die is grey, which is wild). They may then choose a shape from the common board with as many squares as they have dice, and draw that shape on their player sheet. Shapes are marked with circles (O's), to represent windows, except one space (of the player's choosing) that receives an X.
From all the unused dice, each other player chooses one and makes a cross on that color's ability track. These tracks will unlock powerful abilities for players to use during their turn.
