About this project
We've loved every moment of this campaign. It has brought us close to a bunch of supportive backers, who believe in our vision for a new type of camera: One that captures our important moments with us in them - and even from multiple angles - without us being stuck behind the camera!
We're still flat out on development, and we're taking everything we have learned from this campaign and will be relaunching here on kickstarter in early 2014.
JOIN OUR MAILING LIST so that we can keep you informed and up-to-date on launch progress, continuing development, and so that you can be first in line for special early bird pricing when we re-launch!

The way we capture personal video is about to change
Are you sick of shaky one dimensional videos taken from your smart phone? Perhaps you are fed up with holding the camera and not being part of what is happening? Ever wish you could just enjoy the moment without worrying about capturing it?
Meet Quebee - your own personal camera man, enabling you to be in the moment. No more standing on the sidelines, it's time for you to be part of the action!
Quebee frees you up, you can still use your smartphone while Quebee shoots video and you can put Quebee in places that you would never put your smartphone or SLR camera! This enables you to capture videos like never before, and you can be in them too.
Quebee is Intuitive and fun to use
Quebee offers an unbeatable user experience, it's the camera you place, not hold. Place Quebee anywhere - on a rock, a tree, a shelf, anywhere ... then press the button, and get in the action.
Best of All Quebee has FIVE HOURS battery life. Yes, 5 hours of continuous full HD recording, and up to TWO DAYS of recording in time lapse mode. No clumsy batteries, no cables, no complexity, just place, and be in your stories!
The smartphone app is your Quebee control panel, choose video, time-lapse, or still mode. Frame your scenes and edit settings as needed. When in range of wifi Quebee will upload your videos to the cloud and you'll be alerted when they are ready to edit.
Quebee's work together to create great video..
You no longer need a film crew to set up and capture great video from multiple angles. Multiple Quebees can be configured to sync together and be controlled from one smartphone. You can even sync with your smartphone camera to give yet another angle!
Using the multi features of the Quebee app you can do the following:
- View a live feed from each quebee
- Set up and control quebees independently or all at once
- sync your smartphone camera with the quebees
- Start and stop all cameras with one press
- Video files from synced cameras are linked which makes them easy to edit together
We have put together two kits so you can capture multi angle video
MINI ANGLE KIT - Two preconfigured Quebees packaged and ready for you to start capturing awesome multi angle video or just because you want more than one.
MULTI ANGLE KIT - Three pre-configured Quebees in a rugged carry case. which is perfect for film makers, event organizers, even amateurs who just want to make great videos.
We also took some cool footage down at Serato HQ to show the multi-angle Smartphone control and how it can be used by musicians - check it out!
Time-Lapse has never been easier
Using the smartphone app you can set up practically any time interval - of course the longer the time interval the longer the battery lasts.
Quebee automatically compiles the time-lapse into a movie for you, then all you need to do is add a soundtrack, and share with your friends, all very easy with the Quebee App.
Our engineers are putting a lot of effort into maximising the battery life and making the time-lapse mode really fun and easy to use.

Where are we in development?
We've come a long way since we first set out on our mission. We now have a proven electronics design, a working app, and have built 6 working prototypes which we have been testing furiously.
Here is a video demonstrating the current functionality of the working prototypes and app. We are using an iPhone 5s, our prototype app, and our working prototype 'Silver'.
We have developed and refined the form and mechanical function of quebee and built 4 'looks like' prototypes for the video and photo shoot. We are pleased with how it has evolved and expect only minor changes between now and production.
We have designed a smartphone app and built a working prototype which allows the following basic functions: connect to quebee, view a live feed, change camera settings, remote record, browse and playback videos, and save videos to phone.
What comes next?
We have a proven electronics design, along with our prototype firmware, smartphone applications, and cloud service. The next steps for us are to finalize our mechanical design and PCB layout and work with our manufacturer for volume production. While the hardware and mechanical engineers are busy the software team will finalize the various software components which include:
- Firmware - software running on the device itself
- Apps - software that runs on your Smartphone and
- Web services - software the runs on the web server (the "backend")
It's all pretty exciting, and we're so, however we need your help to get quebee production ready, and pay for tooling and our first manufacturing run.

The Quebee Story
A lot of fun has been had, a lot of challenges overcome, and a lot of moments captured and we want to share some of the story.
Over 300 sketches were generated to develop Quebee!
...countless co-creation brainstorm sessions took place
...we created the Quebee brand .... we love it!
...a lot of time was spent in solidworks (3D CAD)
... lots of prototypes were 3D printed
... lots of soldering and tinkering
... did we mention LOTS OF PROTOTYPES?

A special thanks must go to the people and companies listed below, we couldn't have done this without your help and tremendous effort.
Risks and challenges
The main challenge ahead lies with getting the product through to production, as is the case with any product. We've done it plenty of times before, however there are always small hurdles to jump along the way, and we will be spending time with our manufacturers to make sure nothing but a high quality product is delivered.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
We aim to get as much battery time as we can fit into the camera as possible. Right now, it’s at about 5 hours of full HD recording. If we can achieve more at a normal rate, then that is what will be delivered.
No, but Quebee is water resistant. The camera will be safe to use outdoors, just not underwater … yet. If we get enough funding we may consider making it waterproof.
No the quebee app is 100% free to use
Yes, checkout our vimeo page to see some sample videos recorded on the version 1.0 prototypes. They look pretty good for the prototype, the final quality will be even better!
Yes you can use quebee like any other digital camera and manage the files manually, however you’ll miss out on all the great benefits that quebee cloud has to offer.
Yes of course, the files are yours to do with what you like. The cloud is only there to make it super easy for you to edit and share videos without needing any fancy software or anything.
Yes of course, Quebee can be fed full time power and operate as normal
Yes there will be an API. Co-creation is the best way for us to build a healthy ecosystem of new features and apps and offer even more to the community of users.
Yes you can. If connected to a local wifi network Quebee can stream video to your smartphone anywhere via the internet. Of course if you are out and about with Quebee it's own wifi allows you to view a live feed direct on your smartphone.
Quebee is a sealed unit with built in storage, the standard capacity is 16GB. Backers will have the option to upgrade to 32GB or 64GB models for an additional cost after the project is funded.
There are a number of ways to get your videos off Quebee.
1. By far the easiest is to set your Quebee up to automatically upload videos to the cloud when connected to your home WiFi. Once successfully uploaded you will be notified so you can edit them and delete them from the device to free up space.
2. While out and about you can copy videos wirelessly from Quebee directly onto your smartphone, once on your phone these videos can still be synced to the cloud and deleted off Quebee to free up space. There will be a file size limit for direct transfer to smartphone, however you can trim and clip videos on Quebee before copying them across to your smartphone.
3. USB cable to your computer. This works just like any digital camera, simply use the file browser to copy the videos onto your computer. This method is great for moving large video files or for pros who just want the raw files to edit with their software.
4. Lastly there are a number of other third party devices which allow you to extract files via USB to either a smartphone, tablet, or storage device. We are currently experimenting with some of these to see if any of them are a good travel companion for hardcore Quebee users.
Yes you can. This is a really cool feature allowing users to capture multi angle video with just one Quebee and their smartphone. Check out a demo video here - http://youtu.be/wa_2MmV4A1s
Using the smartphone app you can set up Quebee to capture time-lapse at practically any time interval: from 1 second to 1 hour. Of course the longer the time interval the longer the battery lasts.
The great thing about Quebee is that it automatically compiles the time-lapse into a movie for you, all you need to do is add a soundtrack!
Check out some timelapse footage from one of our prototypes here - https://vimeo.com/75266718
We see time-lapse as a very important feature, it allows users to make interesting short videos of long 'events' without any complicated editing. Therefore our developers are putting a lot of effort into maximising the battery life and making the time-lapse mode really fun and easy to use.
