A prototype is a preliminary model of something. Projects that offer physical products need to show backers documentation of a working prototype. This gallery features photos, videos, and other visual documentation that will give backers a sense of what’s been accomplished so far and what’s left to do. Though the development process can vary for each project, these are the stages we typically see:
Proof of Concept
Explorations that test ideas and functionality.
Demonstrates the functionality of the final product, but looks different.
Looks like the final product, but is not functional.
Appearance and function match the final product, but is made with different manufacturing methods.
Appearance, function, and manufacturing methods match the final product.
What is Wovewood?
Wovewood is a new way to furnish your home with beautiful + functional storage.
What is it?
Wovewood is a basket made from 100% 5-ply baltic birch plywood, "woven" together with our innovative patent-pending joint system.
This joint uses the natural properties of baltic birch to create a joint that can be assembled with your bare hands, and is remarkably sturdy once assembled.
Baltic birch is lightweight and warm, yet also very strong and damage-resistant. For this reason it is used in high-quality modern furniture the world over.
Each pledge grants a certain amount of Mix & Match Points. Determine which baskets you want, add up their point value, and pick the appropriate pledge accordingly.
How is it better?
Wovewood is more effective than current options at combining beauty + function.
These baskets are strong - we tested a Large-size basket, and it didn't break even when we put in 120 lbs of cinder blocks!
We are so confident in the sturdiness of these baskets that we are shipping every one with a 5-year Warranty.
In addition, a no-VOC finish highlights the natural wood-grain of the birch - no two baskets are exactly alike.
And last of all, these baskets can be easily disassembled for washing or storage.
Where can I use it?
Sprout Modern Furniture has been in business for 7 years, developing innovative, modern furniture that assembles with no tools and is ideal for shared spaces.
We are proud to manufacture all of our product at our Provo, Utah warehouse, having fulfilled thousands of orders over the last 6 years.
Our baskets will be made here, and are shipped to you flat - saving you money.
We need $12,000 to order the material we need for the grey, white, and natural finish. We expect these neutral colors to constitute the bulk of our orders.
That being said, we'd love to offer more.
If we are able to reach $35,000, we will offer one additional color. Ideally we would like to offer a lot of colors, and as we exceed goals, we will continue to expand our color offerings.
Our production is established - we have been manufacturing and fulfilling product from our Provo, Utah Warehouse for the last several years. All we need is to order the material, have it arrive, and then start working.
We estimate that we will be able to manufacture no less than 500 baskets a week, continuing as long as we have orders. We will fulfill our Early Bird orders first, and then our other backers in order. We estimate that all our Early Bird orders will ship by the middle of February, and we hope to have all other orders shipped by the middle of March.
Only after our Kickstarter orders have been fulfilled will we offer the Wovewood baskets to the general public.
Clark Davis grew up with a hammer in one hand and a book in the other. He always dreamed of being an inventor so he studied Mechanical Engineering in college. Today, he is designing and building furniture that he hopes can allow kids and adults to more fully immerse themselves in the creative cycle.
Paul Schmidt grew up designing things, places, and experiences for his younger siblings to enjoy. After graduating from college in Industrial Design, he joined Sprout in the hopes of continuing that endeavor for a wider audience.

Risks and challenges
Our company has been in business for 7 years and is currently producing and shipping product. This project will be made in the same facilities and on the same equipment. We have prototyped the product and are confident in our ability to produce it. We currently produce products using the same material as the white and natural baltic birch. New colors including grey are currently in development with a supplier, and look promising but the exact details of the colors are still being worked out.
