Pledge Manager Opening, Milk Carton Deck Box & Cubee Plushie

The moment many of you have been waiting for: the pledge manager is finally opening! We’ll dive right in and not waste any of your time. We've setup the pledge manager in its entirety and turned on what is called a “smoke test”. This is when surveys are sent to 5% of backers at each backer level. The intention is to flood in a small number of early people to do a live test and check that everything is running smoothly. This may sound strange – rest assured we’ve done our own, pre-live testing too, of course – but this is precisely what BackerKit (our pledge manager provider) recommends. Thus, if you got a survey already you may very well be part of this so-called smoke test and therefore please jump in as soon as you can so that we can verify all is good and send out the full chunk of surveys!

This is a preview of what your survey may look like!
This is a preview of what your survey may look like!

For those that did not receive a survey yet, do not fear: it will be approximately 12 to 24 hours until you receive yours, based on the estimations from BackerKit (and assuming there are no major issues to be fixed). We know this means that many of you won’t actually get into the pledge manager until June 26th. Our apologies for this wee delay!

We previously informed you all that we were delaying the pledge manager so that we could make store connections to supply you with local pick-up options in order to circumvent the cost of shipping. We also wanted to provide a more finalized decision on the play mat. In the end, we decided it made no sense to continue to waiting on both topics and that’s why we set June 25th (today!) as the pledge manager opening date, whether or not those topics got resolved.

We’re very glad we did this because, lo and behold, those topics are not resolved. Please stay tuned though – we’ll still be working hard to get store pick-ups running (it appears we already have near-confirmations in Berlin and Belgium) and as soon as we can confirm them we’ll update the pledge manager with that as an option.

If you can believe it, we’ve got something mooo-re fun to share today: we’re very excited to unveil Mario’s finished milk carton deck box designs. We’ll have to provide an even closer look once we get back a printed sample from the manufacturer (again, someone different than Panda) but meanwhile let us know how you feel about these!

Here are both colorways depicted: white and black.

Lastly, we’ve gotten our “turnaround” (as it’s called) off to our plushie manufacturer. Because that company is different than Panda (it’s Symbiote, the same company that both Gamelyn and Leder Games have used for their plushies) the production timeline won’t be halted by our delay in art. This means we’ll very likely have the plushies available at SPIEL. We may be able to work out a pick-up option for those that want them but we’ll report back on this later. For now, simply gaze on in glory at these early turnaround graphics that our fantastic artist, Mario, put together!

Here's the new plushie mock-up, as seen in the pledge manager...

It’s worth noting that we did not depict the apron nor the cup on the pledge manager because we’ll still pricing these out and waiting to see if they’re possible.

Alright, that’s it for today, a short update but back on track for bi-weeklies as we promised. Let us know if you’re interested in anything in particular for the next update, whether that be further news on production samples or perhaps some exciting leaks of Mario’s massive stack of artwork being lovingly crafted for the final game!

What happened to the "pick up the game in a local boardgame store" option? Why do I have to enter a shipping address and already pay shipping fees?

    2. hgurov on

Hey, just letting you know I didn't get the Pledge Manager yet. Keep up the updates :)

    3. Angela M. on

@Santiaguini Campos, you technically can't upgrade your pledge (the function seems to be disabled), but only add anything you want to your original pledge. It should not make a difference in price.

Hi! I don't see where to upgrade mi pledge!! Help D:

    5. Angela M. on

      @Matt, try https://seizethebean.backerkit.com
And help yourself to another mail survey. Make sure you use the same email as for backing this KS.

    6. Matt Wilkins on

I can't even find it on backerkit. Can anyone help?

Never mind I just went straight to backerkit and sent myself a new one.

Is there a link to the pledge master because I have not received and email still? I even checked my junk mail.

    9. Matt Wilkins on

Haven't received an email yet for my backerkit. Am I the only one?

    10. Angela M. on

@Randy, milk carton boxes are already offered: in the component upgrade section, next after the playmat.
@Fire-Dragon-DoL, one playmat for center of the table is enough. Players have their own gameboards included in the game instead.

Is there away to get a mixed cubee meeples (4 orginal and 4 barista) added as option in the pledge manager.

I don't want to get an extra set just to have verity.

    12. Fire-Dragon-DoL on

I have a question regarding the playmat: is it a board for "a single player" or is it a board that works for all the players?

I mean, if we are going to play the game as 3 players, do I need 3 playmats or just one?

Sorry I know it sounds stupid...

    13. Randy Yeung on

I just go through the PM
How to order the milk carton? Cannot see it in the add-on.

Visit the PM again later when this is available?

    14. Angela M. on

Oh, and one more question regarding things in PM, @QB: How large approximately will the espresso plushie be? Is it rather the size of an espresso, or more of a cappucino? Or even Milk coffee?

Gotcha, I wasn’t sure, and didn’t see the usual small link to upgrade

    16. Angela M. on

@John Silveira, maybe you're not able to change pledge level, but you do not need to, really. Just pick any add-on you like, there's no difference in price to the original pledge level, as I see it.

I can’t seem to see a way to upgrade from the $1 pledge level?

    18. Angela M. on

Oh, and about the mat: Yes, material is one aspect (I'd much prefer cloth), and the other one is -again- storage. I know I can always fit a (folded) cloth mat into the base game box. I would only get a neoprene mat, if it fits (rolled) into the box as well. If I need to store the mat separately, I won't get one.

    19. Angela M. on

      >> In designing the snack pack, I never intended that it be "stored" <<
Haha, nice one. But let's just imagine for a minute, I would want to bring snack pack to a game night. Where would I put it? Just throw it loosely in the box? Or my pockets? Would I use zip bags? Anything of this might work, but I would rather want to have them in a sack or carton specially designed for Seize the Bean. And look, there's (player or resource) sacks and (milk) cartons I could buy for that purpose, what a coincidence! :)
The only thing I do not know: Which of these would be a nice size for one or two snack packs. Will one, or even two scack packs fit into one player sack? Or do I need to get something bigger?

@Angelica Grace Hunter: Just to confirm, Angela M. is completely right here. If you want a Snack Pack make sure to add one on in the pledge manager!

Also we see why that was misleading in the add-on chart. We've updated that row to hopefully be more clear!

@Ben Anderson: Thanks for the input about the milk carton. Actually, Mario is based in Spain, though I can't be certain that is what his milk design is based on. A lot of his art comes from his own imagination (which I love to death, it's a weeeeiiiirrddd place, hehe). I do the majority of our art direction and I certainly didn't have a geographical or cultural concept for the milk beyond the ideas of ingredients / missing persons / etc. Actually, I think we went more for the opposite, that it *wouldn't* specifically mimic any particular area of the world. Although I really tried my best to capture a lot of the spirit and essence of Berlin (through my expat eyes) in every aspect of the game, Berlin is also a place between countries, sometimes. That may be hard to understand but it's a lot like San Francisco in that sense, or the whole Bay Area really. It's a melting pot. So one way to represent it is to not represent a specific culture. Thus, the milk really fits. ;)

But, a shame you can't get down with green. I can respect. However, it's very very unlikely we'll be changing it as we're focused on finishing the offset printer art now (cards, boards, etc) and are in the process of getting milk carton samples already made.

@Angela M.: Don't worry – *loads* of artwork is coming. We are having a lot of fun seeing all the wild flavor come to life in Mario's imagery, card-by-card, day-by-day!

@Angela M.: In designing the snack pack, I never intended that it be "stored". This may be an oversight, but I find it's so tasty looking (yes, that's my sad attempt at a pun) that it should be out to view. Mario isn't 100% there yet, but so far my hope is that the snack pack gets its own little place on the play mat, giving another reason to use one for play! BTW, what details were you waiting for on that... did you have specifics in mind about it us just wanting to know the final material choice before buying?

Oh my god the color scheme of the milk carton looks so great with white background!!! I wonder how would black background look like?

Oliver, maybe Essen 2019, but certainly not this year, I'm afraid :)

This milk boxes look amazing! I really like them. By the way: Will this game be available as a pick up in Essen?

    28. Angela M. on

@Angelica, the snack pack is not part of any pledge level, it's an add-on only.

Thanks for the nice update. Love the milk cartoon and the plushie but still will wait till the final product along with the mat to decide. Would like to see more sample pictures and video after the changes mentioned in UKGE update. Glad that the PM will be opened until Oct and plenty of time to change my mind once the final art and samples are in.

Please keep updating us even if there is no major thing with at least art and information about the game .

Lots of great add-ons available! Quick question though, is the resin snack pack included already within an Espresso pledge level? I know on the pledge chart it mentions resin components, but I wasn't sure what those components were exactly. 😅😅 Thanks!

Oof. I have no idea what color milk is in Germany, but we have blue and red here in the US (sometimes pink and yellow). Green just looks super duper weird to me. I love the design, but I wouldn't buy it unless green was swapped for blue.

    32. Angela M. on

Oh, and certainly: More art, please!

    33. Angela M. on

One thing I'd like to see in the next update: How to best store snack pack. Would a burlap sack like the player sacks do? Or rather a bigger one like the ingredient sacks? Or even a milk caron? I have no clue at the moment, how much room these 36 goodies will take.....

@Angela M.: Glad you love it! It definitely wasn't our first design, so we are sure that Mario will be pleased if this one finds appreciative gamers that it can go live with. ;)

Pledge manager will be open for three solid months. For now we are estimated a closing date of October 1st. This will give us a one month time between closing it and then locking the surveys and charging cards. All of this will go nicely in line with the new production schedule! Thus, you have loads of time. :)

    40. Gert Breugelmans on

      Looks pretty amazing.
Thanks for the updates ... Nice to see how the board game progresses.

Haha, love the milk carton, especially the ingredient list! Well done.
Sooo, how long will the pledge manager stay open? There's quite a lot I'm still undecided about, since I don't know the details, like the playmat...
